Rugged as a mod. Wow -- very interesting.
I'm still relatively new to AB, so I have to ask,
what exactly is the role of moderator on Allbuffs? On other forums, I'm used to seeing moderators
enforce the ToS, usually by warning members, locking threads, deleting posts and in extreme instances, deleting accounts. Given that Rugged is our new mod, I'm curious which, if any, of the
Terms he'll be focused on. To help, I've listed the ToS below, along with relevant examples of Rugged's passion for them.
1. no racism or bigotry
2. Personal attacks against CU players (current, future, or former) or their families will not be tolerated and will be immediately deleted. [
I have no relevant examples]
3. No pornography, nudity, or sexually explicit pictures or posts.
4. No spamming we could spend days arguing about the definition of spam, but I'll let this one go for the moment.
5. No trolling. I thought of a second example, but couldn't find the thread -- I seem to recall Rugged calling someone "stupid" for asking a question. I personally know the guy Rugged was talking about, and he is stupid, but still...
6. We value the free exchange of ideas and opinions, but this is not a democracy. Rugged is right on top of this "not a democracy thing", see #5.
7. Violation of any of our rules, or just generally failing to be a valued part of our community in some way may lead to warnings (formal and informal), suspensions (of varying length), or bannings (long term or permanent). Yeah, right. (recognizing I may be on thin ice), has anyone ever gotten banned from AB?
8. Do not reveal personal information about other people on our forums
9. Feuds between posters are often amusing, but, please avoid real world threats and similar behavior.
I found many examples of amusing feuds involving Rugged, but he does seem to avoid making RW threats. I have an idea why, but can't confirm.
10. Some of our forums have special rules that apply in addition to these rules.
(a) ... sports forums are dedicated to subjects that are relevant to that forum’s sport.
(b) The Recruiting Forums ... [no relevant examples]
(c) The Pub is for all off-topic discussions (except for politics and religion)
(d) Barzil is a special forum for our paid members. sigh. maybe I should pay up so I can hang with the cool 35 year old kids.
(e) The Politics forum (and the religion subforum) are reasonably free-wheeling...
(f) The Smack forum is where incessant feuding goes to die... I haven't found this forum yet, guess it's either deprecated or paid member's only.
11. Recognize that forum moderation is subjective. Rugged is way ahead of this one, even by AB standards.
12. These rules are subject to change at any time, without notice. or without change to this webpage, apparently.
all TIC, of course. There went my valuable lunch hour. I didn't have time to proof this, so apologies if I screwed anything up.
serious note: the VT website I used to heavily participate in got way too heavily moderated which turned off a lot of members (they also screwed up a few other things really bad which probably hurt worse). I'm not a fan of censorship and generally appreciate the loose interpretation of the ToS at AB. I can at least criticize Frank Beamer over here without concern of banishment.
side, side note: I love that I can use keyboard shortcuts in this forum instead of the GUI controls: <CNTL>-B for bold and <CNTL>-I for italics, but it's pissing me off that I can't <CNTL>-K for insert link.
