Someone enables this behavior for two years, fools the police & the abuser's employers, and in the end informs the abuser's boss but requests that he do nothing. Mac was put in an impossible position. Rick reacted with anger but was told by his bosses to wait and do nothing. Its all b.s.
Enough!
Wow, you unearthed the biggest conspiracy I have laid witness to! This woman is a ****ing genius. She started dating Tumpkin while he was still coaching at CMU. He never abused her during that time but she KNEW he would get hired by CU and begin to beat her.
She then endured these beatings for nearly two years so she could then tell the head coach of these beatings and realize that the three men involved would NOT report it.
But wait, according to your conspiracy, she actually wasn't abused! She had faked those beatings and deceived police, the district attorney, multiple judges and CU. By your accounts, Joe Tumpkin should still be here because this was all a deception of epic proportions only a manipulative genius could figure out.
I award you no points... and may God have mercy on your soul!
This thread is great. It shows the complete blindness some people have when it comes to something they care about.
- Let's attack anyone that has thoughts this was handled wrong.
-Let's make every spin excuse possible.
-Even though they have admitted not going to the OIEC was in FACT the incorrect step, let's make more reasons why they shouldn't have gone to OIEC.
I've been a Buffs fan for roughly 30 years. I am at a loss. Everything is always Boulder hates CU athletic. CU hates CU athletics. It's everyone else's fault.
DiStefano and Rick George took the blame and said we were wrong. So accept it. CU was wrong. The question is how was it mishandled and were there any cover-ups.
As @BigJim has said, CU could have avoided this issue by contacting OIEC. A gray or grey area is just that, a reason to err on the side of caution instead of potentially looking like you were trying to keep this quiet. For those saying they did everything they could, you are wrong. It's simple. Reporting to OIEC was all they could have done. Listening to legal counsel that was not even CU related was the wrong thing to do.
What else could CU have done? As the victim said to Mac, GET JOE HELP!!! The only thing CU gave Joe was more responsibilities and a lawyer. That isn't help. That's protecting him from whatever could happen legally. The help she alluded to and he needed was some ****ing counseling which, yes, means you let the victim know you are meeting her needs and Joe is getting the help he needs.
Even if Joe denied the ENTIRE thing, which he obviously didn't by giving up his 2nd amendment right to carry a weapon by signing a PPO saying he's a threat to the woman, you say if you don't go to mandatory counseling we will have to place you on admin leave until we know more. CU contacting OIEC allows them to do their ass covering and learn more from victim to determine if it was justifiable to do more than provide counseling.
As I said before, by lawyering up and having that lawyer call, CU triggered the woman to protect herself because she was now CONCERNED for her SAFETY. A victim is most in trouble of her life when others find out about the abuse. That's when things worse than domestic abuse occur, like death!
If this was cut and dry, as we all dream about, there would be no need for spending probably $250k on this. They don't want to repeat this. They want to know everything they can and make the right moves to make it look like the university doesn't care if the athletic department messes up.
Anything posted whether pro-CU did nothing wrong or questioning CUs handling is tired and old. But, it's life and a message board so we keep talking about it. Talking about politics is old, but we have a forum for that sort of stuff on here and on social media. Deal with it. We aren't all going to agree and if you are tired of reading this thread, show some restraint and ignore it. Or add something besides the tired **** that hasn't been said. Of course if you do that, you will likely have to deal with someone that presents alternative scenarios which is in fact what life is about, having different thoughts!!!
