Northern Colorado Game Week (Official Thread)

SIAP: The Pac 12 is going to experiment with things to speed the game up on Saturday. They are going to
  • Reduce halftime from 20 minutes to 15 minutes.
  • Reduce break time between quarters.
  • Reduce commercial time and use split screen.
  • Actually kickoff on time
sweet. If they are going to foist these body bag games on us, at least it won't take 4 hours.
They should be able to comfortably be under 3 hours with these changes - more like 2:45, but of course, they don't want that either for something scheduled for 3 hours.

Hmm, I just double checked and they have the broadcast slated for 3.5 hours. Not sure how this will unfold.

As far as scheduling, I'd rather see zero FCS opponents at all. Id rather it be two maybe, middle of the road P5 teams, one real good one. That's just me though. If we do schedule FCS teams, have it be against some of the better ones. Just think there's value in the guys knowing that, if you just think you just have to show up, it's a good way to get your ass whipped.

I think a schedule like last years was perfect. Had that Michigan game been at home I would've prederred a high level G5 or mid level P5, but since it was on the road playing Idaho state was fine. Keep in mind this year we had Oregon and ASU as non conference games originally.

Imperative that we come out and run on all cylinders from the beginning. We need to put a complete game together, all phases, tomorrow. The starters need to be done and out of there by the 4th quarter. If UNC hangs around for a half, I'll be extremely worried about next week.

Apparently CU is paying UNCo $350k to play in this one.

Last week, CU paid Texas State $900k to come to Folsom.

Considering that I expect attendance to be about the same and maybe there's more potential for the Bears to bring a thousand fans, it seems insane to me to do one-offs against G5 programs. When we need a one-off game, I think CU should always make it UNCo.

Be ready for different weather tomorrow, should be nice at kickoff, but might be a touch chilly for early tailgating

Agreed. Would rather give that money to a local lower level team that absolutely needs it from a financial standpoint.

Looks like nice fall days to me, my favorite season. I had thunderstorms here that started up about 6 and went on pretty much all night. We needed it. Walked outside on this morning, had to put on a light jacket. It said it was 44.

350k is so cheap

Being such a close School, I am sure that had a lot to do with it. Taking a bus to the game and probably staying in their normal home game hotel the night before helps a ton on cost.
And they can sell more tickets than a regular away game out of state.

Plus you get some serious college football fans into Folsom. If they follow UNC, they love the game, and a percentage of them (probably small) have probably never been to Boulder for a game before.

It's a good gateway to converting one or two of them to adopting CU as "their" FBS school.

Not trying to be a dick, but if you were a UNC alum would you:
1) Be aware that UNC even had a football team
2) That they were playing in Boulder this weekend
3) Be interested in taking the time and paying the money to watch a body bag game

You said a small amount. I'm going with hundreds, but not 1000.

Yeah, but just think about the possibilities. Like @skibum said, if we are successful in "converting one or two of them to adopting CU as 'their' FBS school," at the rate of $350k, we could see sellout crowds in our lifetimes!

One other thing about that forecast. I've been eyeing windy.com, but also using weather.com. Windy.com said as early as last weekend that Boulder would be unusually cold (high of 58, I think) with a chance of showers where as weather.com was saying a high of 70 and sunny until yesterday.

I'm surprised they were that much more accurate, but weather is a bitch to forecast in Colorado. I will keep watching to see if this continues to be a trend, or if it was a one off.

It's an hour drive and they average about 4k to 5k per game. My guess is it'll be over 1000.

Also many of the students probably have friends in Boulder and this would give them a reason to spend a day in Boulder before partying with their friends.

I think most of you will be surprised how many UNC fans show. Most of them will be buying tickets all over the stadium so it may not look like as many in the stadium when you look at the visiting section.

Yeah my uncle played QB for UNC back in the 80's so a bunch of his friends are coming to tailgate with us. They are pretty excited just to see their team play at a fun environment it's not like they are worried about getting blown out.

When was the Texas State game scheduled? If I remember right, I think we had a home-and-home with San Jose State that was cancelled for this year, and this game was already on the schedule. Given only one FCS win can count for bowl eligibility normally, we had to get a lower level G5 in here last week. They needed a 12th game, and we needed to play an FBS opponent.
Two things with this game-I'm thinking they'll at least sell out the number of tickets we gave them.......so there'll be a lot of their fans tomorrow. We cannot sleepwalk through the first quarter plus tomorrow-I think UNC is more talented than Texas State (that might be the UNC alum in me talking........anyway) and getting a shot at CU is a HUGE opportunity for that program. I'd like 20-0 at least after a quarter. If we let them hang around for a half a la last week, I think we've got more problems than even we know.
