Do you think the whorns would be better off with another glad handing, golf playing, photo op'er, mack brown type of coach? Let the assistants do all the coaching and recruiting while the HC wines and dines and shmoozes?
Real question. I really don't know what would work at uTerus.
They won the mNC with that coach. Whom assembled an excellent staff. They had numerous years of outstanding recruiting prior to the Vince Young championship. So, maybe with the right guy it would work. Mack Brown certainly benefitted as well as suffered from his assistants decisions. In the end though, after the important ones left for HC gigs he couldnt duplicate that success.
Charlie strong has the all time lowest winning percentage among all Texas HCs going back to the 1800s. Let that sink in for a moment.

ATM looked like crap tonight, particularly on defense. Wasn't ATM supposed to have a good defense?
Hired the LSU DC for big money before last season, I believe.
Don't think they pull the trigger but seat has got to be getting warm. Since they had Johnny Football they haven't been meeting their expectations, this year hopes were up then as you mention it just fell apart.
Saw a bunch of empty seats in the middle and upper decks, that isn't something that usually happens. Fans are getting unhappy and when it starts costing them money then they will have to consider some kind of change.

Depends entirely on the whole ecosystem and how much the CUAD, Chancellor, President, regents, surrounding community, and supporters of the program do to make CU a destination location.
The issue with football in Boulder has never been the location. Problems at CU has always been a people issue. When everyone is passionate and pushing in the same direction, good things happen.
Rick George and Pres Benson are every bit as responsible for the Rise as MacIntyre. The question is, where do George and Benson want to go from here? Who leaves first? Pres, AD, or HC?
Of that list, HC could very well be the most expendable.
Benson was here during Hawkins and Embree. he's done his job and I concede it's tougher in Boulder. But not a once in a generation job done.
Rick George has done great things, but those things haven't yet had much impact on the play of this team, unless you believe RG has done the hiring and firing of assistants, which is not factual.
This turnaround has been epic and most responsibility rests on the shoulders of the staff and the players, especially the upper classmen. But also those who had a part in breaking the culture of losing who aren't here this year. Guys like Spruce, Munyer, Crabb,Nembot, etc, who bought in. They led the way HCMM asked them to, when going thru the motions and hitting every ladies night in town was the norm. The changes were organic and took place starting 3 seasons ago. We were too busy arguing how it was failing miserably because we weren't getting enough highly rated recruits.

If Herman is hired at LSU, I wonder if Houston would consider hiring Orgeron? Their MO is to hire a coordinator, but as a noted recruiter, he'd be in a talent hotbed and Houston has about a billion Cajuns who might become UH fans. Just a thought.
Kudos to Herman's agent for recognizing that UT will never allow itself to miss out on a coach it wants because another program outbid them. Stick it to the Longhorns, Herman.

Oh, it will happen (salary inflation, not going elsewhere). Funny thing that's coming out this morning is that it sound like UT boosters may have been responsible. They're so desperate that they are bidding against themselves. Apparently, the leaks came from folks connected to UT in an effort to push UT into moving quickly with a big offer. Longhorns gonna Longhorn.
Rick George has not done the hiring and firing of assistants, but I absolutely he has helped to dramatically change the culture within the AD. Between the facilities and helping MacIntyre/Carl with the resources they need to make the right hires, I think he has been an essential part of the turnaround. Your last paragraph describes a team going from 1-2 wins to 6-7 wins, not what we are seeing this year. So it all matters: more experienced players, MUCH better coaching staff, and brand new facilities.

You statement that money wasn't an issue for Herman, your surprise his agent would leverage LSU to get more from UT.
Not what I was talking about, I'm saying it's surprising the his agent has to use the LSU job to leverage money out of UT. Seems weird that a school that offered Saban over a hundred million would let money get in the way of their guy.
aTm is UCLA's chief competition for the program that does least with most... but it pays a lot more than UCLA. I can see why a coach would believe that it has everything he needs and that it's a place where he can have crazy success. Ego = "all that place is missing is me".
Seems pretty similar to a lot of sec jobs, not a very good place but great fan support and leadership dedicated to winning.

Gotcha. Herman's agent is using the gift that was handed to him.
Do you think RG had any influence in bringing Chev to CU? From a recent interview with Chev, he mentions that "he got a call from coach Mac" (paraphrasing). Did MM have any sort of connection with Chev before? I'm not suggesting that RG is responsible for it or did the hiring, but it feels like his fingerprints were there.
