The real value of a TE in an up tempo offense is that the defense has fewer opportunities to sub in to match up.
For that, you need a complete Kittle type TE who can play H, Y, slot or split. Otherwise, the TE doesn't really create matchup problems on defensive personnel when they can't substitute. I understand being picky this past offseason because there's not a lot of value in this offense vs just putting another WR or TB on the field if the TE doesn't have that level of ability and versatility.

Fair take, but let’s be honest here. Fauria got here because of daddy, Olsen absolutely never should’ve been offered in the first place, and what I’ve been told is the 2 month transfer rental flashed an absolutely sh!t attitude. He’s working with a transfer and 2 walkons. Give him a year.
Both Fauria and Olsen were well regarded recruits. Your take on those two is wrong.

At the college level? I am not so sure. I think you merely need a competent blocker who does not have stone hands. How many teams playing nickel realistically are not exposed over the course of a game?

Maybe situationally. Like if Lew put in a jumbo personnel package on 3rd & short, the defensive subs would be goal line types, so being able to go on 1st & 10 the next play by flexing out the TEs into a spread is something that D personnel are not equipped to handle. How often does a LB even practice at the NB role he'd be forced into? I see the value of getting a defense out of its comfort zone in this way. Efficacy is limited if the TE can't block in the box players and beat them on routes, though.

Speaking of first downs. How much does it benefit this offense with the new no clock stoppage rule?

I'm not sure it matters that the clock keeps running after a 1st down. What are you thinking, because I only considered that it would shorten games a bit in real time but wouldn't impact gameplay?

Maybe it means fewer possessions so teams have to open things up earlier if they get behind. I don't know.

I figured it would benefit them to where the defense couldn't substitute after a clock stoppage. Also, it allows the offense to not have to slow down. Am I imagining that wrong?

Did the play clock used to start up immediately even though the game clock was paused? I didn't think it was a full stoppage that allowed defensive subs if the offense didn't sub.

Absolute train wreck of a head coach but no denying that man can croot.
I’ll agree that he “could” recruit. There’s no hard evidence he still can based on recent history. And almost signing Malachi isn’t hard evidence.

There’s simply no denying the position group is troubling on paper, and there was no improvement in the last recruiting season. So it’s justifiably a concern. It’s been a few years since he’s signed anyone of note. Eyes wide open?

I'm telling you you don't get to use hindsight to say "see I was right all along"

They were ranked 15th and 24th at their positions coming out of high school. Their tape and camp performances got them those rankings. Yeah, they haven't panned out, but look at the schools who recruited them. They were highly regarded.
