Official 2025 Opening Week - Georgia Tech Thread

Yes. He was rewarded with a Position Coach role. He was too talented not to. Someone else would've swooped in if we hadn't.
Was just curious why he didn’t stay at linebacker coach, but I guess it was too much of a stretch to move Hart. Edge is looking good now right?

No starting qb has been announced but it'll be Kaidon.

Some thoughts on last week's practices: https://buffsblog.com/14-things-we-...ll-camp-the-inside-scoop-before-georgia-tech/

I think your blog has been good as well.

The only issue I had with the Ga Tech preview was this:

King and RB Jamal Haynes operate behind a seasoned, athletic offensive line anchored by All-ACC guard Keylan Rutledge. While not the bulkiest group (ranging from 290 to 315 pounds), they’re balanced, experienced, and efficient, paving the way for 190 rushing yards per game in 2024. Tech wasn’t padding stats either: they gashed Miami for 271 yards and bulldozed Georgia for 260.

The Yellowjackets return two excellent guards, but it is a partially rebuilt offensive line. That doesn’t mean bad, but they have to replace both tackles and the center. The incoming center is young, but got some reps last year and looks promising. The tackles are experienced but transfers from lower levels (I think one projected starter was from the Ivy League). I would say both CU and Tech have some question marks at that position group, which makes game 1 unpredictable.

McNeill was Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week 2 of the last 5 weeks of the Big 12 regular season last year. If he can build on that, he'll be an All Big 12-level player.

Two coaches have told me that Barnes has taken a big step forward this year. If he's as good as they say, CU should have 2 really stout 3 techs/tackles. Add in experienced backups like Coleman and Lightfoot and BDS starting to show up, and we should be good.

Of course, we'll find out if this is all smoke and mirrors in about 4 days.... :)

TBH, I'm way more worried about our CBs than I am our LBs or IDL.

Tawfiq Thomas and Taurean Carter are also guys who add experience and size with the depth and rotation

This game will be a mirror of the NDSU game last year. They'll hammer us for most of the game, we'll get a much needed stop or two when we need it most, and our skill players and home field advantage will get us a close win in the end.
This. They will try to ball control the entire game and physically wear CU down. We need to get up early for that to change but expect it to look just like NDSU game from last year. Tech has better athletes all around than NDSU, but I am hoping CU plays less man to man where NDSU gashed CU early in last years game.

I'm not nearly as concerned about CB and think they are going to be solid, if not pretty good, but it's still a downgrade from last year when we had 12 out there and our CB4 was Colton Hood.

McKinney is largely viewed as a top 5 CB prospect for next year's draft. His biggest issue was turning his head and looking for the ball, but he's supposedly been looking really good this camp. I also think Hodge is going to be playing at an All Conference level in the slot.

RJ Johnson has looked pretty good from all accounts, so if Teon Parks has pulled ahead of him and is the other outside CB starter right now, that bodes well. Tyrecus Davis has also looked really good and should be a great backup/rotational guy the slot and Dime packages.

Howell and Adam M mentioned that King, the starting QB for GT, had his leg broken by the Buffs in 2021, when he was at A&M. They thought he might have chip on his shoulder (more like 'wanting payback') on Friday.
