Official Bowl Games Thread

Alabama won't decline like nebraska did, that's ridiculous. They'll be 1,2, or 3 depending on Clemson and Georgia. Georgia's shocking beatdown by texas puts a little distance between them and the top 2, even if they did totally lose interest in their bowl game.
 
No way, Alabama isn't going anywhere. The way they recruit, their resources, their coach, etc... I don't see it doing anything but pissing them off, honestly. They'll contend or win another, and soon.
 
True freshman goes 47-71 for 674 yards and 6 TDs and no picks in the playoffs.

Just sick.

And he has to play two more years. Heisman lock in '19 or '20.

I really don’t think that’s crazy. Take a look at their schedule this year, other than ****ting their pants against Maryland, they were two very close losses away from being a 12 win team. Add to that they beat Georgia and Oklahoma this year and I can see why they’re getting the love.

Plus WVU loses Holgerson and their QB. The Big 12 might be even easier next year.
 
Great game by the Tigers. Does leave me wondering if all the changes in coaching at Alabama are starting to show. We always assume they reload at coaching positions just like they do with blue chip kids, but perhaps this reveals a weakening where so many coordinators have been replaced. I also wonder how long Dabo will be able to keep his staff intact now that he has established a dynasty at Clemson.
 
Look for Tosh Lupoi to hit the unemployment line soon. Great recruiter, terrible coach. Saban can’t cover for him anymore.

True, but all of their wins were close too so you can't have it both ways.

Right, so the hope is with all the players coming back and another year under Elhinger's belt that those close losses become wins and the margin of their victories becomes larger. I don't see them regressing.

LSU as their second game of the year will be tough as hell, though. Luckily for them, that one is in Austin.

Maybe. As we see in college football winning close games year over year usually doesn't happen. Regression is never out of the question at UT with all of the hype and "rat poison" being pumped into Austin all off season.

Locksley + Tosh/ Golding is easily the worst set of coordinators Saban has had since he has been there. In the past he had Analysts who were better coordinators than these guys.

Talent, Saban, culture and program infrastructure.

Frankly, if we look at most P5 coaching staffs in the country we wouldn't like most of the guys if they were brought up as potential CU hires. Even at the elite programs, we wouldn't like most of them. This offseason, every time there's been a coaching change somewhere I've looked up their coaching staffs to see who they had coaching the staff positions that CU has had open. I'm sure I've wasted hours on this. I have made very few posts in the assistant coach suggestions thread, though. Those dots shouldn't be that hard for people to connect.

It comes back to talent in the end for the most part.

In Clemson's first 3 series, they looked like this:
  • 3 plays, 3 yards, punt
  • 4 plays, 75 yards, touchdown
  • 3 plays, -4 yards, punt
Bama led 16-14 due to the Pick 6 at that point, and I felt like they had control of the game.

Clemson scores to take the lead, on the next Bama possession, it looked like this:
6 straight runs for 2 first downs, then Tua throws an INT on 1st down

They seemed to alter their offense after that - favoring the pass of all things. After halftime, Alabama got no points on a 51 yard, 5 minute drive, with that horrific fake field goal to end it. The game was over essentially over then, but Clemson scored on the next drive anyway to make it 37-16.

Yea Klatt mentioned that Tuesday morning on the radio and I certainly don't disagree. Bama was averaging 5 yards a clip on the ground before the game got out of hand. He also brought up an interesting stat on 104.3 I think it was, which is in Tua's games against the 4 best defenses he faced this year he's had as many interceptions as he's had touchdowns.

Huge congrats to Clemson, great program with an incredibly dedicated fanbase. I love Dabo and he's always so loose and upbeat in his interviews. Going back to his pregame on-field interview against ND, before he started the interview he stepped aside to say hi to someone and then he turned around and loosely and positively proclaimed, "We're ready"!
