The alliegence players have to their teammates and schools is weak. Kids don't want to build something over time, with their brothers. Half these guys were thinking about their postgame dates.

They don't want their coach to play favorites and start the second string QB. They quit on Dorrell.

Worse than the outcome, worse than scratching our heads at coaching decisions.....students and fans in general turned out big last night and CU served up an unpolished turd.
Sadly I'm guessing they called it a success in DiStep's office because the stadium was nice and full before most of the country went to bed.


unrelated - Ralphie looked great! May be the last time I see her run in person for a while......

That's exactly what I was coming here to post this morning. My 2 takeaways were the same. The QB situation was horribly mismanaged, and CU is painfully slow, especially on defense.
 
I do think KD was right about one thing in his preseason talking points: as a general rule there really isn't much of a drop off between the 1s and the 2s.

The problem is that the reason for this isn't because the 2s got better.
 
Really disappointing last night. Early in the game when Lewis threw the interception that was negated by penalty, I said to myself this guy is not the guy. He basically just threw it up. I think the coaches like his dual threat capability but in reality he is not much of a threat in the passing game.

I think the team did kind of give up as the reality set in - togetherness is nice but it cannot always overcome lack of talent.
 
So 2 team captains basically said much of the team had given up at 17-6…at home…in the first game of the season. You can coach through execution mistakes but how do you recover a team that quits at the very first sign of difficulty? (That’s a rhetorical question).

team chemistry is tough to build in this circumstance--- stars, playmakers, leaders, all left the building en masse. there just aren't a bunch of guys on the roster who appear to be capable and ready to carry the team when things go poorly.

add in the public destruction of a qb at the hands of his own head coach and the vote of no confidence in your o line when you don't go for it when you still have some momentum....

we are going to see a lot of heads hanging this year.

lack of a motivational coach-
If Dorrell was my coach I'd like to kick him in the face.

The bolded. Assuming that things (and recruiting) aren't going to get much better, the correct scheduling for CU would be to include one FCS team (not NDSU) and one G5 team (not Air Force) per year. Think Western Illinois and Bowling Green. Or Eastern Washington and Texas State. Karl's thought processes can be analyzed to death here, and youth is an issue too, but the main thing that isn't changing any time soon is that this roster is about 50% mid G5 level at best.

Final thought - There's so much psychology in team sports. Did anyone not notice how the team, especially the WRs, brightened up and the play got more crisp during Shrout's first drive? As Mark Schlereth always points out, the players know who can play and who can't.
