I don't think that would surprise anyone. Adams was getting promotions and big pay bumps and I think everyone understands that doesn't happen without a lot of AD support.
 
I'm starting to think the biggest reason I want Holgorsen is it would feel like we were a big time program stealing another coach. Quite frankly we probably have cheaper better options in Day, Lake, etc. But damn would I love to poach a coach like that.
 
I think he’d be a decent coach, we wouldn’t have to many lows. I do agree we’d have to overpay a coach who’s won 10 games 1 time since joining the Big12. I think I’d rather pay a coordinator like Lake and use the savings in the assistant pool
 
Help me out here: let’s say we do hire a younger coordinator as our HC, why do we automatically assume that he’s going to be able to bring in a big time staff (with the extra money available)? I’m worried for two reasons: 1) he’s younger so he probably doesn’t have as good of connections, 2) how many of you like working for someone younger / getting paid more than you (assuming you’re old and qualified enough to be one of the persons we’re assuming to fill out said staff)?

If I have a lot of responsibility and get to make a boat load of money doing what I love in a big time job, the age of my boss is irrelevant.

But, you also have to truly believe in your boss and likely have no desire to be the boss. These hypothetical persons are very likely already in a good position, so I struggle with your argument as-is. I would at least argue that the pool of these persons is smaller than we assume.

Anybody know how well these highly discussed coordinators are liked by their peers?

??? You’re relying on a faulty premise that the coaches we hire don’t want to be the boss. No!

I want coaches who want to bust their ass and learn so they get their crack at a head job elsewhere.

Coaching is a fickle business on both sides. This is why coaches move A LOT in their lives and continue to do it even though it is not generally geographically safe.

No, I’m simply arguing that it’s harder than that (as evidenced by the Assistants thread, and how many of those guys our new HC would have connections to AND be able to pay more than what they’re earning now).

Practically speaking, I would assume Tosh.0 has burned some bridges on the recruiting trail and with his moves, so I question his ability to bring in a better staff than Holgo (who would cost more and lessen the remaining staff pool).

Holgerson is going to primarily bring his staff. WVU is ranked 35th in recruiting right now. For me that’s not gonna cut it. I’ll take my chances with a young guy.

I don’t think Holgo is a real option. We’d have to increase the comp budget for football to be top 20 in the country for both he and his assistants to even consider the move. They may not even move then if WVU gives them raises.

Your intimation that Lupoi isn’t well liked is only based on your speculation about his recruiting prowess. I think there are plenty of hungry coaches who’d want to be a part of getting tons of awesome players. Given his connections/job history in and out of our footprint, I think the staff would be fine.

Granted, it was some jackass who is trying to climb a ladder acting like a monkey throwing **** at a wall, but Bohl - and, thus, the I-25 corridor - has been part of the discussion.

Total internet ignorance, but not to the point where I don’t want Tosh as our HC.

I’m splitting hairs with these coordinators so I’ve convinced myself that the tiebreaker goes to the one who can assemble the best staff. Thanks for entertaining me.

I dunno. While we might be able to do better I wouldnt be unhappy. What I saw in 2016 was a strong defense that helped win games put together by a coach that appeared to be able to game plan.

Below it appears he was starting underclassmen this past season. Especially at corner and safety. We all assume its better talent at the O but they could also have behind the scenes issues.

Agreed. No way it's Mason. I honestly think we're finally going to hire a big time coach. Big splash. The fan base needs energized, big time coach is the best way to accomplish this.
