Official CU vs Delaware Game Thread

This is Prime. He won’t ever understand time management and end of game strategy. His way is to dominate the other team so there is no need to worry about that stuff. Problem is he isn’t yet dominating, so his misunderstandings are on full display. I’d be extremely happy if we never need to worry about end of game management in the future. Sign me up.
The problem is that in the playoff, you aren't simply going to be able to out athlete the majority of your opponents like you might be able to ultimately do in the B12. Emphasis on "might".

Despite all the claims of parity, just like last year, I think there are only 3 real contenders. Ohio State, Georgia, Texas. The rest are going to need some lightning in a bottle.

Part of me thinks that if GT and CU had swapped coaching staffs, CU would have won on Friday.

I just want to see Prime and his coaching staff improve on gameday. I think they can do it, but we are going on year 3 now. I’m starting to worry that what we see is what we are going to get from Prime. Good at bringing talent into Boulder, but not so great about the little details that can win games when the other team is well-coached and has comparable talent. I hope Prime meets the challenge.

The T Cal breakdown shows little subtle mistakes by lots of players on each play. Hate to say it, but Shurmur did not call a terrible game, but still boring. Multiple times, half the offense and many times Salter just executed poorly. We could have easily beaten the piss out if GT if this was our 3rd game and not our first.

I have upped my optimism again

T Cal has become insufferable imo. I had to unfollow him

Yea, it was bad. Same story with the 4th down no gos.
As bad as CP's timeout failures were, equally concerning is the fact no one on his staff would step up and tell him what was happening. Too afraid of showing him up. Again, Salter, Seaton, any player on the field could have called TO also.

I really do like CP, but as with taking the ball 1st in OT last year - twice, it's clear he doesn't understand some coaching basics

Yep. I watched the All 22 Breakdown, too. Feel better about some of the offensive game planning and worse about KS’s ability to see the field in the passing game.

But he does have an arm and can really run. If we can get him into a comfort zone, he’s a pretty good QB weapon.

Another thing: I know score/situation dictate this a lot of times, but Welch should be getting a minimum of 15 carries a game. Since the middle of last season I've thought he's our best running back and the GT game did nothing to change my mind. Give him the ball. Sure, he can split carries when he needs a breather or if you want to bring in a better receiving option on 3rd down, that's completely fine. But if we want to try and establish a consistent rushing attack with a running back, Welch is our best option IMO.

Same. At first it was nice to hear his POV but the dude thinks his football knowledge is so far and above everyone else because he got a camp invite. He just talks down to anyone that disagrees. There are plenty of football players that aren’t high football IQ. Getting an invite doesn’t automatically mean you know more than everyone else. And his inability to admit when he is wrong about something while shouting from the rooftops about a prediction he made is absurd.

Same feelings. For the O, it was execution, not game plan. I was impressed at how intricate CU's new O system is, and I believe we have guys that can run that system. The play design is much better than I thought it would be. I felt like the Oline played well for the most part given the new scheme, but the TE and WR's missed a ton of blocks on runs/screens that could have broke things loose. WR's had a few drops. Welch looked awesome, all 3 RB's have some talent, just not sure we have 2nd/3rd and long RB blocker on blitzes.

Exact same opinion of KS. Salter had some bad throws, but I was surprised about the great throw on the deep pass in the end zone in 1st or 2nd Q. Watching it live and recorded, it looked over-thrown, but T-CAL's angles showed and blamed the WR, as he did have a play on the ball. We need a breakout game for a WR that might shift a safety or pull a double-team.

This best part is I think Juju can totally thrive in this system, probably more next season after he grows/weight-room, but he will get some play this season. I just do not want to get him hurt. The Oline played good, but it was not like they could create a clean pocket or slow-roll out.

Agreed on almost everything, except this part: To me, the reason the WR didn’t have a play was because the ball was thrown to the wrong spot. If it had been thrown deep into the end zone, the WR had beaten the safety over the top. KS threw it toward the flag instead of more toward the post.

Also, I was very impressed with Micah bouncing off tackles. That is super impressive on the breakdown.

Agree, it was not a perfectly thrown pass, but I think about our WR's last year, Shepphard, O Miller (if healthy) and Travis Hunter (sure TD) would have made a darn good play on the ball. They caught contested balls. Jimmy and Wester too, but they were not as tall for that play. Hope O Miller's hammy gets better soon, as he looks like WR#1 to me. Want to see what Kam Mikell and Hardge can do whatever position they play. Micah is a gamer!

Hell our HC doesn't understand TO usage (or decision making on 4th down) & game management (T-Cal had a thread on this in response to someone else who brought up a lot of examples despite him being insufferable) and he was one of the greatest to ever play the game.

I still follow b/c he has some good content but he's gotten a bit too big for his britches.

They need to lean on Welch.

Also, if Salter is going to be your QB then he needs around 12-15 designed carries a game. You simply can not use his best weapon. Stats say he had 13 carries, but I think there were only around 6-7 of those were designed. If he gets hurt, so be it. You can take that risk based off who else you have.
