Official CU vs Delaware Game Thread

Stoutmire is the worst of the unit so far.
pains me to say it as he's got the family tree and connections and physically looks the part, but damn he misses a lot of tackles both in taking odd angles and in just not bringing dudes down. shilo was a liability, but at least he tried (too hard perhaps) to ruin opponents days.

This should be the Staub and Ju Ju show moving forward. Staub the best chance to win and develop JuJu. Full stop. salter needs to move to QB 3 at this point. He is so inaccurate especially when he is moving. Not to bad when he sets up but he could not hit a ****ing thing when he is rolling or moving and decides to throw.
Yeah. He sails his throws high when he’s throwing while on the run. Frustrating. Especially when his receiver is wide open.

My kid pointed something out to me. In the first two games he’s noticed an inordinate number of slips on the field.

He also pointed out that the base below the turf uses some sort of wood chips. If you look at the black turf in the end zone you can see the brown residue from the wood.

I’m not claiming that this is a big issue. Just something we noticed.

Turf fields take time to “settle” in and there will be spots where there is excess material stuck in the fibers. They need to have hundreds of people with clears just running all over it till its settled.

Sucks, but is what it is for now, will be a great field in the long run

Staub made three plays that gives me hope that he could be someone special. The pass to Trackhawk for a TD. The PI to Joseph Williams and the run for 1st down which was tough and decisive. All were playmaking plays which I didn't see from Staub at all in his first year. People ask what is the biggest jump Shedeur made from his freshman year to Junior year. It was his off platform plays where he had to make a play that might not be there based on the playcall and where we are with the timing of the offense. That's where Shedeur became special and that's when he hopped to Mel Kiper and guys BB. Staub showed 3 plays where he was a playmaker. Even as a freshman, we saw his prestine footwork speed which gathered offers and his pocket awareness and pocket presence.

The playmaking is what we didn't see. It's not just the footwork speed, footwork technique, size, and number that gives you shades of Joe Montana. His arm isn't overwhelming as well. He's clearly the least talented of the bunch. Doesn't have the insane accuracy of Shedeur. But even as a freshman, you saw a feel for the game that was like, he's definitely a lesser talented freshman Shedeur but he has somethings even freshman Shedeur didn't have.

He sat for another year. He could have barely improved but based on his game against Delaware, I saw significant improvement. I think Staub might have a NFL future. His potential as a WCO QB maybe just as amazing long term as Shedeur's in that scheme given time to sit for a couple years and learn.

We might have fallen into a future NFL superstar. The way I saw Sincere Brown look at him as well as Yaya and our other OLs who were in the 2nd and 3rd unit. They truly believed this guy is special. They didn't look at him as the help. They legit looked at him as the best QB. They believed. Those 3 plays was more impressive than the audible plays for Brown even though that was impressive too. These 3 plays are the ones no one can stop.

I want to see the OL better in run blocking when Salter isn't the QB. Salt threat of his legs puts fear into the defense. Juju and Staub simply don't. You can see a difference with Staub at QB. The confidence of the WRs if they aren't the 1st option. They are running routes hard like 2 is back. It wasn't the same feeling.

Staub might got something. Still in the air with it. You know, I love a lot of QBs but consistency is something most of them struggle with. This entire class outside of Beck has struggled so far this year. Eyes on Miller Moss, Staub, and Pribula, almost committed to Prime at Jackson Diego Pavia, former CU QB Brandon Lewis, Maivia, Longeran, Aguilar, and Evan Simon are guys are am really watching right now. Just about everyone else been way too inconsistent this year. Mensah shined week 1 but struggled against Illinois man dominate coverage.

Just let the new Ralphie go wild on it all week.

#1 pick correctly described Shurmur. He is better as an analyst than a play caller.
I have zero doubt that he really understands football and offense. He can design plays and an offense. He can come up with a winning game plan.

He cannot execute said plan. Terrible in game, in the moment instincts.

#1 had it right: Shurmur is a good strategist, and an absolute dog **** tactician.

Let's hope we found a quality P4 starting QB before we start glossing him as a potential NFL superstar. But I was definitely encouraged by Staub's play on Saturday and want to see him get a shot to prove he's capable of being the guy.

It’s not that Staub wasn’t a good QB coming out of California, he was just sandwiched between Shedeur and a very hyped transfer and a 5* coming out of hs, he was simply overlooked. He clearly has tools to be at this level, let’s see if he can continue and raise his level of play.

Just some cool stats on Staub this season
Tracking on my chart as comparable to Noah Fifita. Noah had one of the best in structure QB seasons in years, when he led Arizona to a winning record in the tough Pac-12. While Staub was doing it in and out of structure against Delaware. It's really good to be charting with Noah F who outside of a difficult year last year has been a top end starting P4 QB.

This is tremendous for Staub.

Another cool stat is Staub is completely hammered by his TWP being his only intermediate throw. The bad is, he had just one intermediate pass last year, it wasn't good. The good, he had a top end intermediate grade in 2023. This gives us an idea that this could be a strength if the volume was higher and he's in rhythm.

That's the thing, consistency is what dictates everything. If he lays eggs, that's not what P4 starters do with a good situation. I would like to think CU has a good situation with their OL, TE, and weapons. Even the running backs are playing well. If he continues to track like Noah Fifita. We hit the lottery.

As far as NFL potential. It's the scheme. If he can master the WCO in the pros, he could be a superstar. He has the playmaking. It's the consistency. He's likely never going to be more than a 6th round pick. But with development and his traits, he got something. He got a lot of something. All of these QBs have tremendous feet. From Shedeur, Salter, Juju, and Ryan. Even Ponder has tremendous foot speed in the pocket. I think that's something Pat requires. Even Wiseman, the talented kid who was really raw had tremendous feet. That was something, I think Prime always wants and that's something Sean Lewis also wanted from the QBs. Most of these guys outside of Salter are made for the WCO but they all need development as we are spread based. Even playing multiples, we still operate out of the shotgun. Not a lot of Information or anything 21 or 12. We just had a couple 21 personnel plays recently and that was a shock

This is from "Buffsblog":

Staub finished the Delaware game with a 267.9 quarterback rating for the game, which ranks among the best single game performances in college football over the last 3 years. Seriously, read that again.

Very cool. That said, context matters.
I still have no idea what this team is. I'm willing to believe Georgia Tech is an upper quartile ACC program that will present challenges for Miami, FSU and Clemson. I'm even willing to believe Delaware is an experienced and veteran program that is going to be an OK team in their first year in FBS.

I see the flashes of what this defense can be, but we've also seen more of the same w/r/t chunk plays and not being able to get off the field through two weeks. The offense is a complete enigma and I don't feel any more or less confident in that unit at this point. Special Teams has been really good through two weeks, pretty much in every aspect, so that is fantastic to see.

I have to see them against a Big 12 peer before really knowing one way or another. This Friday is a very pivotal game for the rest of the season, IMO.

Sure if drawing the line at racism, sexism, phobias, etc. makes me PC then yes, I definitely am. I’m never going to get mad at someone for making jokes if I know there is no ill intent.
Okay felt the need to step in here. Logging in this morning looking for some great analysis and insights from the game... I see this post and am immediately thinking oh man he must have posted something really bad! Navigate back and its the Bin Laden photoshop (lol) that is literally all over the internet for any player, coach, etc. a fanbase dissapproves of and here is Shurmur of all people (special place in the minds and hearts of Buffs, Broncos and Giants fans). I did not see any ill intent in HuskerSlayer420's post (ridiculous name and avatatr btw which doesn't help when you start getting worked up and defensive spamming)... if anything, maybe a little misguided given the audience here (he's not wrong about that) and forum but no need for the sanctimonious chiding. In summary: Everyone chill and laps all around.

Speaking of ridiculous name and avatar…

Thanks for stepping in.

Couldn't what you're doing right now be considered sanctimonious chiding?

Also, I think you misread Bread's post. He wasn't suggesting that Slayer's post was racist or sexist, only that those are his personal boundaries on what is appropriate.

The thing that was wrong with Slayer's post was that it was tragically unfunny. The thing that was wrong with Slayer was his inability to deal with the feedback regarding his tragically unfunny post.
