Official CU vs Delaware Game Thread

Say what they want about Delaware as an opponent, but our Buffs were looking at a 10-7 game at halftime if Staub hadn't come in and made a play.

Edit: And our Buffs only scored in the second half when Staub was under center.
I've made fun of Delaware in the past in the Other Games post, they don't have the legacy of Notre Dame or Alabama.

Also realize that this is their first year at the BCS level after playing FCS. That said while they didn't have much depth they weren't entirely a joke. They have know that this step up was coming and spent the last couple years recruiting to have BCS size and speed, they have also hit the portal hard and had a number of guys on the field who were P4 or upper G5 recruits.

CU still should have run them by 35+ points so from that standpoint it was a bit concerning but that team had some players.

Agree though that Salter should not have come back in, he had a bad day, struggled, and went to the bench. Don't take a senior who has been in a leadership position on the team an throw him out there in garbage time.

Either give Ponder or Allen some snaps or better still let Juju get another series or two. Even if all he is doing is handing the ball of game action has a different intensity and pace than practice. More time can help him get adjusted to live action quicker, more comfortable being out there.

Overall, it was curious how the coaching staff handled the QB rotation against Delaware.

I do think the correct answer is to start Staub against Houston. We will have to see if Staub gets a long leash from here. Juju needs a year in the weight room to be a factor, but I don’t know that Juju sees it that way and he probably wants some snaps in order to stay with CU for next year.

Salter still could be important at QB this season for CU. Maybe his benching will light a fire under him. I just think the position is going to be much more fluid than we think right now.

Certainly more fluid than we expected.

Salter was an effective QB at Liberty, he played much better than he has shown so far here. There is some hope that eventually he comes around and becomes the guy they expected him to be but this isn't the NFL with pre-season games. Every win or loss counts and losing the GT game gives them even less margin to work with.

Staub needs to start. Juju will get some time, the weight room will help but as a 4* almost 5* recruit he is expected to push for playing time now. Play him enough to assist his development.

If Staub takes a step backwards and/or Salter shows he is ready to step up then he could end up as the starter again but that can't be handed to him, needs to be earned and earned when situations present the opportunities, he can't just be given it.

One of the realities of the portal is that there are guys all over the country who aren't living up to their expectations when they transfered. Just like there are a certain number each year of highly recruited HS kids who never pan out we need to not automatically assume that guys from the portal will be what we expected them to be.

Salter is going to get a nice chunk of money and another year of education paid for. He isn't going to be a pro QB like he wanted to be.

Ideally, I'd like to see some games where JuJu doesn't play so that we can still be discussing the option of preserving his redshirt after we've gotten through the halfway point in the season.

Polumbus was suggesting that if Staub turns out to be a player, that it could be in the best interest of Juju to be OK with competing, but possibly not starting until the 2027 season like Arch did at Texas.

I can’t see him doing it, but with him being 17, maybe he and his family would be OK with that.

There's a good chance he can earn a half mil a year while doing it and getting significant playing time like Arch did. Wouldn't slow or harm his NFL aspirations or timeline in the least.

Think that was a big part of the problem. Our guys thought they could just show up and win by 50. Their guys came ready to play and prove they belong.
