Official CU vs Houston game thread - 9/12/25

I asked this question before the season. Why did we move Helow to edge? We need LB coaching. Even if we get rid of Hart now, the damage has been done e. We have no talent or recruits in the system. No lb wants to come here. It’ll take tons of money or a couple years to get decent LB’s here.
He was promoted but he helped the LBs a ton last year. Why not just promote him to Hart job and move Hart to the DL with Sapp and Peko or best, just make him the assistant HC and he can do the rah rah stuff and focus on clock management whereas Helow coaches the LBs

I've asked the same. Even directly after the spring game. But prime was gone. He wasn't with the program

Pregame KOA Livingston explained that some of our poor tackling resulted from the fact we don't tackle much in practice - fear of injuries.
Soft approach.
Thing is, most teams don't and still tackle way better than this. 29 missed tackles.

We only had 16 missed tackles against Kansas and we got dog walked that game

Where the hell did I see 11 break tackles for Houston from? Just ignore anything that I said yesterday from the game on PFF. I wasn't accurate. I'm gonna log off. Seems like mentally I played in that game for CU.

Congratulations to the defense for only giving up 36, since it easily could have been 50+.

Staub was below average but would have looked better had our WR's been able to catch. He certainly has some accuracy issues, but I do think overall he played better than Salter.

Ive said it before, but we are going to need to put up 40 to win games this year.

This is a 4 win team unless some major improvements occur on both sides of the ball.

Players' "toughness" comes from having tough coaches. We have great, accomplished athletes, fine men, not much by way of tough attitudes.

As argued many times, these HofF guys have little to no coaching experience and because, truly, everything has come naturally to them, they don't always know how to teach and motivate. For guys like that, it was, "I try my hardest, I win my match-up". Sometimes you need techniques, added desire. repeat point: the fact no coach would tell CP to take a TO against Delaware showed assistant coaches afraid to assert themselves.

Go Buffs!
Good players don’t necessarily make good coaches.

The business world knows this.

Good workers don’t necessarily make good managers.

We actually have a couple really good ILB coming in this recruiting class cause that position has mostly seniors right now leaving. They say they love Hart, so we will see.

I don't care about personal insults.

They had 79 snaps on offense
Colorado forced a TFL on 54 of them and had 25 hurries.
Generally speaking, that usually doesn't end up where you give up 36 points and potentially much more.

Is this accurate? If you look at the play by play the majority of plays gain yardage

Edit: this was already answered as inaccurate

I believe Rob Livingston can coach. I feel entirely differently about him than Shurmur. We saw results last year schematically. I think there is a major talent deficiency on the D this year (missed tackles, fit, hustle, etc). Additionally, there are issues with position coaches.

Mantrez Walker is a true freshman and Rodney Colton is a 4 star commit. Two other 3 start commits for '26

I do like seeing Prime being front and center on responsibility for how bad the team is playing.

Let’s see what he does.

1. Evaluation of the teams talent this year has been a huge miss. The DL is better than last years hype and the team is overall better hype are both huge nopes. 2. SS's ability to read defenses and distribute the ball versus what we have now at QB is a dramatic change. We had 3 NFL WR's and a borderline 4th last year with a NFL QB. The talent was obviously going to drop off there. 3. The problem is the scheme or play calling is so bad that we can't handle the drop off. Many people have said this before but rarely do I see a play that is designed to get a guy open in good space through motion, a rub, or a misdirection.

The defense played bend but don't break football in the first half and that 16-14 score at halftime was reasonable. They are going to have to play a lot more of that because they just aren't good enough right now to force 3 and outs because they can't stop the run effectively.

Really? The defense was on the field for the first 9 minutes of the 3rd quarter. That has been the theme. Defense is soft, easily fooled and can't get off the field.

( I know the delicate genius won't see this)
This is 100% correct IMO. The talent on defense is terrible and much of it is unfixable. The LB play is nonexistent and Hart should be terminated today. The talent eval in the portal was poor.

To be honest, the portal last year doesn't have many good players to start with.

The biggest problem has always been there's no HS recruiting

I liked that part as well. I did not, however, like his late-game behavior on the sideline. Nor did I like his befuddled “how did this happen” theme after the game. I hope he had a more positive, directional message to the team in the post-game lockerroom.

Just like we've seen from every single shurmur offense: it's boring. It's one thing to be bad through lack of talent and shoddy execution, but there's no fire, no desire to win. It spreads to every part of the team. We saw it with the Broncos, giants fans saw it in NY. We saw it last year when Shedeur ran what was called. And we're seeing full effect this year.

It was top heavy and everyone with real talent ended up at a blue blood. I was so pissed seeing how many ended up at Florida State and Miami as well as Ole Miss and Mississippi State and they look it. If you are going to win on talent like FSU and us, you cant miss on talent. Just cant miss if you can't coach them up to be consistent

Our talent eval has to be flawless or you need stars to cover for the ills.
