LIVE! Official CU vs Houston game thread - 9/12/25

Defense wins games!! We had a shot for the O, but the defense has to tighten up. U can't get mauled in the 1st Q or the 3rd Q, unless you want to win a shootout. I thought the defense was close at times but they played in spurts.
They just play good in spurts and can't stop the run. 2023 but our secondary might be worse. At least special teams is excellent this year

This team is definitely talented. Just not consistent.

Pat looks bad man. Delaware was rough too. I actually felt he did well against Tech
The playcalling against Tech was bad. He did not put KSalt in the plays that benefit KSalt. We lacked play action. We lacked the triple option looks we thought we were going to see. There was no game plan with a cohesive strategy. The only success we’ve had all season are the plays outside of his scheme. The most productive offenses are scheming plays open. Our offensive talent is too good for us to be languishing.

Special teams is excellent

Outside of that. This is an average team and likely a bad Big XII team
I don't think this team wins another game outside of next week. They can't run the ball, and they were going to have to lean on that this year. This WR core isn't good, we're playing musical QBs now, and this defense took a massive step back.

I don't understand why Pat Shurmur is still here.

It felt like Houston had 2nd and short all night long. This team lacks toughness on both sides of the ball. I can see why most of our transfers came to CU, they couldn’t cut it at their previous school, hell their previous schools were probably glad to see them go. You can bring in all the HOFers you want but they aren’t cutting it.
I don't understand how someone could say the defense isn't terrible. They have the same issues stopping the run that 2023 had but maybe worse because our LBs are liabilities this year

The defense is still terrible. Couldn't get off the field on 3rd down. They were getting gashed way too much in the 1st quarter and while they limited that in the 2nd half outside of Vickers, they just couldn't get stops.
We don't tackle well and we make every QB who tucks the ball down and runs look like the second coming of RG3. We have P4 level IDL but they don't do well with gap integrity. That all said they got no help from the offense

I will never give up on this team! Was it over when George Custer stood with his men daring the enemy to attack? Was it over at the Alamo when a couple hundred Texans took on the Mexican army! Was it over when Argentina took on the British military in the Falkland Islands? HELL NO IT WASN’T!!

I heard a lot of talk about becoming a running team.

The backs got 12 carries for 60 yards.

Establishing the run requires committing to the run.
You cant go by that because we know our backs can run. It's the OL run blocking. Too many TFLs

This OL since Tech hasn't really been able to get much of a push running the ball. Honestly, we did better last year before Cash started over Walker. We really need to figure out run blocking. Houston didn't do anything special like Tech or Delaware but they created lanes every single drive.

We really hit a home run with Chidozie. He really help us show flashes of good run defense last year. I don't know how badly UCF would have beat us without him. This feels like Florida State last year. Talented but just didn't do well in the portal. This is a talented team. I hope they don't give up.

What kind of O does he run, out of curiosity?
He was OC at Jackson for Shedeur’s first two years I believe. It’s mostly an Air Raid style. I doubt they would entirely shift over to that, but they’d install some stuff. There just has to be something that’s done about the playcalling cohesiveness and plan. This playcalling has felt like throwing darts.

This team is talented.

Which means they are poorly coached. Full stop.
It is. Pat getting exposed. Hart is getting exposed. I like our DL but it's clear we don't have as much versatility as last year and we didn't have much DL versatility last year. We spend heavy on Oatis and man.... He was suppose to be him.

Losing Colton Hood really showed it's ass tonight. Significant lost for Prime. Just can't replace that.

Some of this is a failure to replace what we lost on defense.

Offensively, we just don't have many good players. Good players are consistent. Not just very talented. Talking to you, O, Drelon, Jojo, and Sincere. All 4 are more talented than Sheppard, Wester, and Horn but those 3 are way better.

We have talent. Even watching this game, we were more talented, we just dont have chemistry, leadership, or connectivity.

The issue is, the WRs wasn't getting open. How would Salter do better in this situation? He doesn't throw anyone open

We got all of these talented WRs but which one is actually consistent?

Salter doesn't want to run. If we could put Staub brain and it factor in Salter body with his talent, we wouldn't be playing Staub
Our passing scheme is absolute trash.

None of our WRs are good.
Only two of our OL are any good.
Atkins is meh. That's a massive upgrade over what we had last year at the position
The backs are decent. I like them. Price and Taylor in particular

Staub looked like a backup QB today. Does he have talent, yes. Was he good? No.
And I thought I was the one with the sh!tty takes. Different OC and this team is 3-0. The talent is there. Take a lap.

He was OC at Jackson for Shedeur’s first two years I believe. It’s mostly an Air Raid style. I doubt they would entirely shift over to that, but they’d install some stuff. He wasn't good man and we dont have the personnel to run his **** either. Brett is smart but we aren't built to be an Air Raid offense.

Obviously, Leftwich will help at some point.

This!!!

F'ing Hart has zero clue how to be a LB coach, scheme, recruit, positional play calling and properly prepare his players.
Watching how much our RBs improved with Faulk, I am convinced we move Helow to coach LBs and move Hart to somewhere else. Helow had the LBs looking good last year. At least the capable ones

I thought by year 3 we would be top 15 or better, favorite to win the Big XII. We are no closer to that than year 1. This is extremely disappointing, Prime has a lot to account for and explain why we are in this position.
