this is the problem for the independents. Its really really hard to schedule a full season of games in non revenue sports when 98% of the rest of D1 has it taken care of for them by.....

....being in a conference. Which is why ND joined the Big East and the ACC for all sports but Football.
Oregon and USC would be fools to give up conference TV money, which is about to come up for renegotiation, thinking theyll get Notre Dame level money from NBC As an independent. USC being in LA and a destination school that has powerful alums might get those bucks. No way Oregon does with its small alumni base and tiny TV markets. No one bribed their kids way into Duckland for example.
This is the big reason why I think CU would be an attractive option for the B1G.
They have a metric **** ton of alumni in Colorado.
It's why I thought CU was smart to move to the Pac-12; we have a **** ton of alumni in the footprint hat the school had been able to engage due to the move.
The B1G cash payout may overcome that advantage though....
I also guarantee that the B1G noticed the ticket prices and tv ratings from when CU & NU played the last 2 years even while we are both sucking donkey dick in recent years.
The B1G understands rivalries and how they move the needle.
It's sort of ironic that the entire reason CU/NU became the rivalry it did is because a special coach had seen first hand how the Michigan/OSU rivalry ignited so much passion and decided we needed to copy that model.

Not a single mention of CU being involved, it was ASU, UA, UCLA, USC, UO, and UW. It also mentioned that expanding the footprint into certain metro areas is unimportant in the age of cord-cutting, ie, being the only school in the largest metro area between the Missouri and the Sierras is useless.
I think there are huge roadblocks to this plan, mainly the unwieldiness of a 4-time zone conference, the state legislatures getting in the way of UCLA leaving Cal, UO leaving OSU, and UW leaving WSU, and the inevitable issues when UT's ego clashes with USC's.
Still, it's something that should scare the hell out of the CU administration, from the BOR to the President to the Chancellor and the AD to the fans. The freefall in prestige from the Pac-12 as it is now to one that is inviting Boise and CSU just to stay afloat would be devastating.
Larry Scott needs to pull some rabbits out of his hat or he needs to go packing. CU needs to be leading the charge to be finding a resolution that keeps this conference together.

Better than being the Pac 12 punching bag and never getting better at football.
We already know we are better than Nebraska. And Nebraska is better than Illinois. So that’s something. Honestly, the B1G West outside of Wisconsin is pretty wide open. Iowa and Minnesota are very solid, but we should be able to compete with them pretty easily, I’d think.
But to be honest, the idea of being in the B1G has almost zero appeal to me.

Iowa is a pretty big time program. How many 1st rounders have they been putting in to the league lately?
If I recall they put 2 2nd Round guys in 2018
Two 1st Rd. guys last year and I think that they have the possibility of putting 2 more guys in to the first round this year.
That would be a huge step up for us.
1. Joining B1G
2. Staying in Pac
3. Staying in Pac but adding a few Big XII teams
4. Staying in Pac but adding teams like Boise
5. Staying in Pac after U$C and others bolt
6. Taking all recruits to Casa Bonita
7. Eating at Runza
8. Joining Mountain West

Jokes aside, while money is a huge issue for CU in the Pac12. What bridges the gap to consistent success if the money issues no longer exist, say as a middling B1G or expanded Big12 school?

While I like the sentiment, we "should be able to compete" with UA, ASU, UU, WSU, SU, UCLA, etc pretty easily too. Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota are all waaaaaaay ahead of us.
Agreed with your last statement. Nebraska game - cool. Money - cool, if we really can't get it elsewhere. Everything else... meh.
We should be able to compete with the P12 South, too. Honestly, it’s a huge disappointment that we haven’t beaten ****ing Arizona in four years. What the actual ****?!? So my point is that we *should* be able to compete with the likes of Iowa and Minnesota. We aren’t there right now, but honestly, we should be. Neither of those programs have any institutional advantages over CU. They’re good, solid programs who win more than they lose and occasionally pull an upset over higher ranked teams. That’s where we ought to be.
