Official Washington Game Thread

Barnes was pretty key today, as was Lamb, Well. Lots of good individual efforts throughout the game, but as a team effort, it was soft-served doo-doo. Luckily Yoodub is bad enough that a handful of individual efforts could be the difference.
Lamb and Barnes are actually starting to look like quality P5 players, which not sure why they looked so bad early in the year, that bodes well for next year cause they are both back and if they improve even more, that might, just might shore up the middle

Classic case of a team losing a game rather than their opponent winning it. I’ll take it, buy UW gave that game away, they were clearly the better team. And our third down defense nearly gave me an aneurysm. I mean, how many third and longs does a team have to give up before the realize they might be doing something wrong?
How about our third down offense. Uh, F.

Took them a while to unlearn what they learned at those football wastelands of Oklahoma and Notre Dame.

At midseason, I made the prediction we'd win at least four games. I'm glad I was right.

What a strange game. It's weird to think we never trailed during it, because it certainly felt like we were losing for large chunks of it. Kudos to the defense for taking away Washington's run game and creating so many turnovers. The poor play on third down is absolutely baffling. We certainly caught some breaks (scoop and score, the fact that a lammiefusker reject got two weak drives at qb for no explicable reason) but we found ways to make plays. No matter how many yards they got, Washington was completely one dimensional and that helped force the errors. I don't buy the idea that the turnovers were "luck" and don't see the point in saying "if they didn't happen, we would have lost." They did happen, and the efforts that created them should not be undermined.

For as bad as the offense has been, they deserve credit for taking great care of the football throughout the season. Was nice to see them step up and get a huge drive when we needed it.

I don't t believe we are as ****ed as most people here seem to think. I think we're a bowl team the next couple of seasons.

Isn’t a 3-and-out and punt pretty equivalent to a turnover on a drive in the opponents territory? Last time I checked we had a few 3-and-outs this year.

"Taking care of the football" is in direct correlation to taking zero chances and constantly putting the defense on the field.

The offense got extremely lucky today (and yes it was mostly luck) to get 10 points directly off turnovers.

This offense sucks.

Buffs offense is the worse coordinated offense I’ve ever seen. I said this a few weeks back but I’m in favor of going full on balls deep system change to Air Raid, 100% RPO or whatever the hell Wake Forest does. No more pro style west coast for me.

I may be in the minority on the full Air Raid but my overarching point is Buffs need complete 180 on the O system and to bring in an OC and staff that are experienced in that system and KD can pop his head into special teams meetings only going forward.

I had the exact same prediction after yesterday as well.

No. It wasn’t. The D wasn’t great but the offense continued it’s march toward historic ineptitude. The D was decent (noting the negatives of horrid 3rd down conversions, but the positives of repeatedly putting UW in 3rd and long as well as the 4 takeaways).
Defense was pure garbage and benefited from a UW offense that was prone to mistakes. You don’t give up something like 10 third and longs in a game and not completely suck. The defense sucked.
The offense wasn’t great, but it managed to move the ball a little here and there and That drive to go up 20-10 was gorgeous. Then the defense gave up a 75 yard drive in 90 seconds to keep the game close.

In the devil’s advocate argument:
After that drive, with 2:30 on the clock, the offense then proceeded to use all of :24 seconds of the clock before punting back to UW (with a timeout). Sooooo….who sucks more? That’s a tough question.

Did we watch the same game? The D wasn’t great but it didn’t suck (and I say that as some who has seen our D suck. A. Lot.). And I’m not sure (pun intended) how you can say the offense moved the ball at all. We had 9 first downs and a 180 yards of offense in the entire game. That’s pathetic.

The offense had two sustained drives the entire game. Two.

A better team than Washington renders that TD drive by the offense meaningless.
