OL grades. Not pretty.

Hmm. Glad to see Adams taking responsibility. I wonder if one of those true frosh might lose his redshirt?

The only problem with moving Lynott to C is that the real weakness hasn't been Huckins, though he hasn't been good. He's just the 2d worst problem after Haigler. Would Lynott going to C be better enough to justify that such a big shakeup of moving either Kough or Irwin to RG? I'm comfortable with Miller at LT for now, but this is a pretty big game of musical chairs we are playing with only one game to get ready before UW.

That's why I brought up the curveball of Irwin at C. You keep everyone else in place and then add your best & most experienced OL to the key spot. I just don't know if he's ever practiced there.

First, glad to see the coaches calling it like it is and open to making changes.

Second, there is never going to be a "good" time to make drastic changes, so best to just rip off that bandaid now if changes need to be made. Yeah, Washington is a tough matchup, but we also have road games three of the next four weeks after Washington.

Just remembered that Huckins went out hurt at the end of the last game, and Lynott got the remaining snaps there. I think you can pen him in as our backup C.

Talent level has to go up. Unfortunately OL doesn't let you hide the guys who aren't cutting it.

This last years class looks like one that has the talent to win with. 2016 still to soon, 2015 Lynott is a hit, the rest are still maybes. Prior to that I still think Miller could be a very good one, Kaiser looks at least okay so far. The rest and 2013 not good enough.

From listening to Adam and Ziskin on their weekly Podcast, it doesn't sound like Miller to RT is an option. He has never played the right side and switching sides on the line is more difficult than it sounds. I think we may see Miller, Irwin, Huckins, Lynott, and Haigler.

Perhaps with the experience and the cross training Irwin has had could slide to RT, but I doubt it.

One other thing if Adams is emphasizing that guys need to play through the whistle: could mean that Lynott would shift to C, Irwin comes back as our LT, and Tonz gets a shot at RG. Tonz is a very high motor guy.

The talent has been a question. Not surprising they are struggling somewhat.
We returned 4 starters out of 5, losing only Kelley. It's reasonable to expect guys like Lynott and Haigler to have improved significantly over their Frosh years. My expectation is that they will eclipse last years' line and if it doesn't, I will be curious why not. Our talent should be better this year, not worse so I'm not going down that rat hole. I still think they will work it out.

Edit, FWIW, I wrote that before I got to the rest of this thread seeing that Adams came out and is pissed too. Again, while we don't have an OL full of 5* guys, that probably means less at OL than anywhere and we got plenty of talent. The difference between and athletic 240 pound High schooler with long arms and good hips and his cousin who is 285 pounds is 45 pounds, and 2 stars. We have done a great job (IMO) of finding good talent and getting it into the system and maturing it here under HCMM, while closing the 45 lb gap. There are NO EXCUSES for our OL playing poorly. I also don't give Irwin any slack because he's a 6th Sr Captain and he's been suspended. He should be pissed. I know some others are pissed.

I'd rather live with errors of lack of experience than errors due to lack of effort or attitude. Play the guys who are willing to work the hardest at being good.

It is not a rat hole when you consider what the depth looks like at the moment.

Tonz is the wildcard here. Adams specifically noted he didn't care what class someone was or how many snaps they had. He's the only one we haven't seen much of that fits that bill, other than the true frosh.

As stated before, I think the entire offense, including Lindsey, has come into this season with a very ho-hum attitude, resting on the 2016 accomplishments. They may talk a big game about how hungry and focused they are, but you can clearly see the indifference in their play on the field. Not having Irwin has created a huge unknown about the OL, IMO. Adams just needs to get the best guys out there and give them an ultimatum about playing with intensity.

I know that Vaughn, Tonz, Miller, and Pursell are examples of guys who should be solid P5 players, who weren't rated that high. I tend to think our depth is in good shape and I've been saying that for 2 years. If you use star-ratings out of HS as the indicator (which is all we have since they haven't really played) then it's easy to be nervous.

Do stars matter?

Klayton is clearly pissed. During the Texas State game, he pulled Kaiser early and Miller ended up playing 64 of 77 snaps.

Here are some quotes from the new Woelk piece:

"We're going to find five guys who are willing to finish the play every single snap, all the way to the whistle and try to drive somebody into the ground," Adams said. "If we find five guys who are willing to do that, I don't care who it is, I don't care what year they're in, I don't care how many games they've played. Those will be our five guys."

The fact that the Buffs' line has not yet been a cohesive unit has come as a surprise. Several times in fall camp, MacIntyre said he expected this year's group to be the best he has had in his five years in Boulder.

Adams said he expected the same — and their performance thus far has been "disappointing, to say the least."

"It falls on me," Adams said. "It's up to to make sure it happens, and playing with that physical mentality has been a real focal point for us for the last two weeks. I'm hopeful that we'll see a lot of it this weekend."
I like it, they got put on notice.

I am merely looking at the 2013 and 2014 classes. They are not good. Not so shockingly, the experienced depth is basically non-existent.

I am glad you are so confident with that "depth" of four guys who have barely seen the field or not all, but it does not really prove the point either way.

I'm not overly worried about future depth, but current depth is concerning that the first two guys off the bench were Kaiser and Tonz and they were dumpster fire level. Adams did a good job with the line last year, so hopes are not completely dashed, but surely you didn't like what you saw against CSU and Texas St

I t has been said many times before. Way too many of the OL recruits have been long term diamond in the rough projects.

What disguise? There's a reason Alabama's playing CSU . . .
Yeah but Bama had FSU in week one. Everybody was ripping on the cupcake schedule for this season, but I think it has proved to be a blessing, so the team can work the kinks out while still getting Ws

Guess I missed the complaints. I thought most recognized the benefit of the easy early schedule all along.
