Oliver's Injury Conspiracy

Reading the article today about Oliver's injury without any specifics on what type of "leg" injury it is (yes, I know it is better to disguise an injury than tell the opponent what it is), but there are no details and it feels really weird that there are no comments or burning desire to get back on the field. I love Isaiah, and he is a stud and a pretty reliable kid, BUT, standing on that sideline he is months away from potentially becoming a Million Dollar Man!!! It is safer to not play and to heal and start preparing for the combine (where he will do quite well, and there is enough hype and tape to already get him into the first round) So, is there a possibility he does not return this year or even play another snap for the Buffs. With a bowl game at maybe a 33% possibility, he simply exits stage right and goes to the NFL first round? It feels a lot like a McCaffrey/Fournette deal already, since he has very little to play for, except pride? Not accusing him of anything, just playing a hunch and a conspiracy!

Funny, I was going to post on this. I live in Phoenix and know someone who is connected to Isaiah. Without going into details let's just say he is being told he has nothing to gain by playing again this year.

Hmm. I guess all take nik’s lead on this one rather than react to rumors.

Yep, sounds like pure speculation to me. He sounded close to coming back, so I bet we see him on the field before the regular season ends.

I don't buy it, to put it kindly. For one, I get the impression that Isiah has real integrity. If people found it to be true, his stock goes way down, IMO; somebody that selfish wouldn't be putting his NFL team first, either.

What is missing in this is who might be telling him this? I Don't disagree, but also depends on whether 100% better or not. Can't proceed with fear. If I was healthy I would want to play regardless of outome. Is he worried about reinjuring something affecting track or nfl?

I have no idea what is going on. But, if you are a likely 1st rounder, once injured this season, team unlikely to go bowling, keeping your powder dry fro three to four weeks to insure your payday seems plausible. Some smoke, but I see no fire. Hopefully, this is all interwebs BS and Oliver comes back next year.

Yep, avoiding the bowl game with Stanford really hurt McCaffery's reputation, along with a few others.
I have no idea if you're serious or not. If you commit to being part of a team, it should mean something. I thought it was classless and selfish for McCaffery to skip their bowl, regardless of his payday, and quit I rooting for him. If Oliver or any other Buff did the same, it'd be hard to give two ****s about the rest of their career. I think Oliver may be taking extra precautions, but that's different.

A meaningless bowl game is not motivation anymore.

We sure could use his help to get to a bowl game.

You said sitting out would hurt his draft stock with NFL teams. Highlanders point was that McCaffrey and Fournette did the same thing and were top 10 picks. It may affect how you feel about the player but the NFL doesn’t give a ****.

My secondary point stands. There's a big ****ing difference between skipping a bowl game (****ty as it is) and skipping the last five games while your team is struggling to make a bowl. I think even the nfl might look down on that, even if @Highlander and you don't.

My real point was that I don't think Oliver is the kind of guy who cashes it in half way through the season, just because his stock is up.

Here's my position:
1) You are going off the rails on internet innuendo and speculation about Oliver's situation that we have no idea may be true or not
2) If it were me, and I was 70-80% and could help the team, but it would expose me to being re-injured where it could make it worse and cost me being 100% for the NFL Combine and Scout workouts in the spring, there is no way I would be playing
3) If I were mostly 100% for something benign that wasn't a real risk for making it worse and creating point #2, I would absolutely be playing

I'm disagreeing with the OP - the source of this particular internet innuendo and speculation - and sticking up for Oliver. I essentially stated what your second and third points say. Not sure where the disconnect is.

So some NFL Dilbert says a kid is a 1st round lock. Well obviously the kid should wrap himself in bubble wrap and not play another college game ever. Screw your teammates, your school and start acting like a overpaid, flag kneeling jerk. I like college football because it’s not the NFL and the kids play for the love of the game. College years are about growing up, figuring out what leadership is, learning how to win and lose. The NFL can wait.
