1. CU's OOC isn't that impressive.

CSU beat a bad Arkansas team at home and has been baaaaaad in the others including against CU. Amazingly, that is the only win that CU's OOC opponents have mustered this season.

Nebraska isn't playing good football at all and while it pains our Husker friends on this board, they won't disagree with that. Huskers are turning the ball over and blowing it on special teams. Bill Moos did the smart thing and that is not rescheduling the Akron game yet.

New Hampshire is usually a good FCS team and that is where Chip Kelly has came from. Right now, they are off to an 0-3 record for the first time in what appears to be awhile.

2. CU's focus is good this year.

CU was ready to play football in their first two games which were rivalry games. CU rolled CSU and CU took care of the football & stayed poised in Lincoln. Then they remembered to play a game this weekend at home against New Hampshire. I think this is a good team this year that is eager to prove last year was a fluke.

3. Third downs are a huge concern!

Buffs are 15 out of 42 on third down this season. That needs to improve in light how bad our OOC teams are right now.

Very fair. I’ll say we did look good against teams were supposed to. My concern is the same was said w last year’s team and went 2-7 in conference. If we do that again Mac should be out of a job. I don’t think we do that tho.

I think we had a bigger effect on Nebraska’s performance v Troy than they are bad.
But now they are in a death spiral (because of CU).

Perhaps you are right about that. It would be so Husker-esque to toss the season away just to prevent CU from making the college football playoffs if CU wins the Pac-12. We ought to reduce our payment to them next year if that happens...serves them right for what they have done to Akron.

I’d argue we didn’t last year. But I’m a style points guy.

Agree with @TSchekler that winning is winning which is what the Buffs should have done so far.
The OOC doesn’t look all that great for CU for sure. CSU is garb, NH is a bad FCS team and Nebraska isn’t as good as people believed they would be. I would add, though, that winning on the road in a very hostile environment, particularly coming from behind, is no small feat. Also consider that Martinez is far better than their 4tg string walk-on QB. Had he played, they probably beat Troy and we aren’t really having this conversation. Regardless, 3-0 is great when you consider the alternative of being 1-2 or 0-3 like USC or UCLA.

Nebraska definitely missed Martinez, but Troy is a good football team - they're not some cupcake. Neal Brown is going to be coaching a P5 program soon.

True, but I don’t see many similarities between this team and last years team other than the 3-0 record going into conference play.
We still have O-line issues, and that's a big one. We gave up 7 sacks against the nubs, who only had 3 against Troy. Add another 2 against NH. Still a huge problem going into conference play. But I guess I'm beating a dead horse.

OL definitely has had some issues, but we knew that’d be a problem. I’m very encouraged by Sherman and Moretti on the left side, though. Once they came into the Nebraska game, the offense operated at a much higher level, and then I thought the left side of the OL was lights out yesterday. I’m also placing some blame for a few of the sacks on Montez. He sometimes holds onto the ball far too long.

I noticed Moretti left the game for a period in the 2nd qtr. Was slow getting up and stayed in for another few very ineffective plays and was then replaced by Kutch. I didn’t stay for the 2nd half due to the heat . Did he return?

Agree on the improvement in the second half of the NU game. The first half Montez was running for his life much of the time. I tried to pay more attention to the OL yesterday (admittedly difficult for me to do while watching live), and expected a cleaner performance against NH. I just wasn't impressed. If they don't improve substantially, our fears of Montez getting injured are likely to become a reality.

This team is way better than last year’s version. Go look around at the OOC of every team and you will find warts. (Except Alabama OSU etc).

Right now I rank the PAC-12 this way:

1. Furd
2. Washington
3. CU
4. Cal
5. Oregon
6. Utah
7. ASU
8. WSU
9. USC
10. Arizona
11. OSU
12. UCLA

I think that as long as our receivers can get off press coverage, we have a chance against everyone. Everyone was talking about lack of focus yesterday, but they were up 35-0 at half. You simply can’t stay focused at 35-0.

I’m not worried at all and I would give this team a B+ to this point. I think it comes down to us and Utah in the south.

Can’t fault how our opponents do. What I do know is CU is rolling so far and last year CU struggled more in the games we were supposed to roll.
I am concerned about the O-line. Hopefully they gel a little more during the bye. Washington is the only game where I don’t see us having much of a chance right now.

@SBP your ranking in post 21:

I would think that Cal would be ranked ahead of the Buffs since they won at BYU who just beat Wisconsin on the road.

CSU can still feasibly turn their season around-they play Illinois State, San Jose State, and New Mexico their next three, and two of them at home. If they get them all, they're 4-3 going to Boise State, and they can win two of their last four (Wyoming, @Nevada, Utah State, and Air Force) to get to 6-6 and another bowl. Nebraska was vastly overrated, but the bigger thing with that game is this-our kids found a way to go into a tough environment, not play perfectly (see the four chances we had to take a lead before we finally did), and get a win. The 2017 Buffs don't win that game, and lost it twice last year (FUCLA and ASU).

Some things to work on? Sure. There's no question this is a much better 3-0 than last year's.

Flip CU and Cal, and probably put ASU ahead of Utah.

It is really hard for me to believe Cal has taken that big of a jump from last year. We curb stomped them with a very mediocre squad ourselves.

But the evidence is there for Cal.

Cal has a bye this week too...they play Oregon off their bye week and after the Ducks play Stanford. Wouldn't a win over UO look better than a CU win over UCLA? They play @UA, UCLA, and @OSU before playing UW at home. They could very well be ahead of CU for awhile when it comes to my rankings.
