Week 11

Crunch time as the season is over half over and teams are pushing for the playoffs, conference championships, bowls, or just waiting for coaches to get pushed out the door.

Tuesday

The MAC is back, in the early week time slots that is.

Bowling Green (4-4) at Central Michigan (3-5) needs a couple more wins to go bowling as does Miami (OH) (4-4) at Ball State (3-5.) Bowling Green has won 3 of their last 4 with CMU has lost 3 in a row. Even hotter Miami has won 4 of their last 5.

Wednesday

We could be seeing a murder. The mighty Bobcats of Ohio (5-3) who have won 3 out of 4 are at Kent State (0-8) and somehow the Golden Flushes are worse than their record. Did they hire Karl Dorrell as a consultant?

In what should be a very good game Northern Illinois (4-4) who beat Notre Dame early in the season is at Western Michigan (5-3) who are 5-1 in the last six after losing their first two games to Wisconsin and Ohio State.

Thursday

East Carolina (4-4) is hosting Florida Atlantic (2-6) hoping to get within one win of a bowl. A better looking game has Appalachian State (4-4) at Coastal Carolina (4-4.)

Friday doesn’t have much exciting. To rub a little salt in the wounds of our Husker friends, Iowa (6-3) can go beat UCLA (3-5) on the road after UCLA denied Nebraska their 6th win.

The rest of Friday still strange to see Cal (4-4) at Wake Forest (4-4) in an Atlantic Coast Conference game.

Usually New Mexico is bad and San Diego State is good. This year the Lobos (3-6) and Azteks (3-5) are both bad. One of them will prove to be worse.

Saturday

Early games include some very good teams. Unfortunately most aren’t playing each other.

(4) Miami (8-0) is at Georgia Tech (5-4.) Miami has had some close calls but Tech is reeling and not likely to push them.

Minnesota (6-3) is at Rutgers (4-4) with two teams going opposite directions. Gophers have won four straight while Rutgers has lost the same number.

Blowout of the week early in the day. Purdue (1-7) is at (3)Ohio State (7-1) Buckeyes have had two close games in a row, don’t expect this one to be.

Best early game could be West Virginia (4-4) at Cincinnati (5-3). A win in this game would help each in the bowl selection process.

With a coach who has to be nervous about his job Florida (4-4) is at (5)Texas (7-1). Gators aren’t used to being three touchdown dogs but not much respect for Florida.

Mid-day has some good matches. (19)Clemson (6-2) at Virginia Tech (5-4) may be closer that the records would indicate.

Michigan (5-4) is at (8)Indiana (8-0) No this isn’t a typo. Indiana is normally the one hoping to get to a bowl and Michigan the program with the high ranking.

Looking for the biggest potential upset. (16)Ole Miss (7-2) is at (2)Georgia (7-1.) UGA has tons of talent but at times this year has not looked like the second best team in the country.

South Carolina (5-3) at (24) Vanderbilt (6-3) has teams that have been inconsistent but both have big wins this season.

Early evening has the day's other big top 25 matchup. (11) Alabama (6-2) at (14) LSU (6-2) often has national championship consequences. This one might be a big factor in who gets into the expanded playoff and who doesn’t.

Before the season Florida State (1-8) at (10)Notre Dame was expected to be a battle of top ten teams. The Irish have stayed up there but Florida State is mostly waiting for their coach to be fired.

Oklahoma (5-4) at Missouri (6-2) had both expected to be doing better at this point. Will Mizzou continue to give the Sooners a rude welcome to the SEC.

Not much in the late games. (9)BYU (8-0) at Utah (4-4) has been called the holy war. Utes though with significant injuries don’t have much left to battle with.

Nebraska with a bye week gets more time to dwell on yet another failure to reach bowl eligibility against what should have been a fairly easy opponent. Can they pull it off and lose out again?

Garbage game of the week includes some familiar losers. Kennesaw State (1-7) is at INEPT (UTEP) (1-8.) Yes as bad as they are each of these teams has managed to win one game this year. This week one of them will have two wins to show. At least they should be warm.

Of local interest both Colorado State and Wyoming have bye weeks. For the Rams it is a break, for the Cowboys it is a mercy week.

Air Force (1-7) hosts Fresno State (5-4) as they just hope to get through this year.

For once Northern Colorado (1-8) gets to host a team in Eastern Washington (2-7) that is almost as bad as they are.

Local small colleges have another important week.

Colorado Mines (7-2,5-2) is at CSU Pueblo (8-1,7-0) in what could be the last significant challenge to Pueblo winning the conference outright.

Chadron State (3-6,2-5) is at Western Colorado (8-1,6-1) as Western keeps their eyes on getting into the playoff.

Colorado Mesa (7-2,6-1) still has hopes of getting into the playoff if Western slips. They are at South Dakota Mines (4-5,3-4)

And the new bottom feeder of the conference Adams State (0-9,0-7) is at Black Hills State (4-5,3-4)

Kasen Weisman an old CU QB is in for an injured starter at florida atlantic.
I posted in incorrect thread earlier
He probably wishes he wasn't in.

FAU is a bad football team. ECU isn't great but FAU is making them look great with the score currently 49-7.

I think that ECU recently had an unpopular coach firing or something and the team has basically quit on the season.

Don't know any of the back story. They fired their coach on October 20, the day after getting solidly beaten by Army. They have now won two in a row since then, granted against weak competition.

What’s the feel on BYU/Utah? Do we want Utah to suck as much as humanly possible? Do we want BYU to have a loss (not sure that actually benefits the Buffs in any way)?

The odds of BYU losing 2 of 4 is low, so root for them to keep winning. We ultimately want them as highly ranked as possible.

All eyes on ISU.
The best case, and I don't know all of what would have to happen but it is still a real possibility is for the BYU and the Buffs to win out and end up in the CCG.

At that point the Buffs beating a highly ranked BYU would give us the best shot at a playoff bid.

If Buffs make it to B12 championship and win, I think we're in regardless of BYU ranking. Where BYU ranking may help is in our seeding, whether we get first round home game, etc. But if we win the B12 championship, we certainly have to be in

I want Utah to suck and to drink their tears until they become like Nebraska fans and try to divert every discussion to their gymnastics program.

In terms of what's best for CU this year, it's BYU mudholing them. We want to play a BYU team that's ranked as high as possible in the CCG, beat them, and have at least two Big 12 teams pulling playoff checks. We also want to play a Utah team that is completely demoralized next week.

Just making sure my thought process was sane.

Lot of speculation that Whittingham is going to retire. Good reasons to think that when he does that progam is going to struggle without him.

Having them fall apart at the end of this year and get soundly beaten by BYU and the Buffs will make it harder for them to bring the program back to where it has been. Recruits will be less interested as will transfers, potential assistant coaches will see it as riskier for their careers. Losing may also cause some of their donors to question how much they continue to contribute.

Even though they don't have an NFL team to compete with the Utah program isn't like the Huskers in being the identity of the state and the focus of their attention, they have other options (including BYU for those who are LDS.)

I follow the Utah subreddit. It's kinda funny to watch the mixture of pessimism and depression kick in for some, while the arguments between the sunshine pumping fanbois and the doom-peddlers rage on.

A lot of them blame Whittingham for this season though, and kinda want him to move on. Their feeling is that Whitt put it all on the line for one last run at a conference title and a playoff run, and mortgaged their future to do it. They all think Scalley is going to just continue what Whittingham has been doing though. I have read a couple of concerns about how they are not as NIL-rich as other programs, but I don't know what Utah's real situation is.

For my part, in the end, UU-BYU is probably going to end up like OU-NU or OU-UT in the olden days. I don't really like either program, so it's just going to be a question of what's best for us. In this game, it's a double whammy of it being good for our future if BYU stays undefeated and Utah probably completely collapsing for the rest of the season if they get shellacked tomorrow.

I think it'll take more than one losing season for them to go completely tits up as a program. They had a lot of momentum coming into the Big 12, it's not all going to dissipate overnight. Having said that, if Whitt leaves, Scalley has to succeed. I've read people saying here that they expect him to struggle, and that might be true - I don't know. But their fanbase will still be engaged after this year, and it is still a power football program in a major American city. There are worse situations to be in than Utah's.

I don't see them dropping down to bottom feeder status or something similar.

More likely though they just end up as mediocre. 7-8 wins per year including 1 or 2 patsies in the OOC, most years go to a bowl game, every once in a while knock of program that is top 25 but not to 10.

Based on our last couple decades prior to Prime we probably would have been very happy with that. It's going to take Utes fans some time to adjust.

Back to their status/record before Urban

If we win the Big 12 Championship game we are automatically in the CFP and would therefore likely one of the top 4 seeds. The top 4 seeds get a bye in the first round of the CFP but do not end up hosting a game.

4-4 Cal playing at Wake tonight. Crazy that Cal is 0-4 in the ACC with their losses coming by a combined 9 points. But leave it to Cal to spoil SMU's perfect conference record in the last game. Could end up being beneficial to us because SMU will still make the ACC Championship game with 1 conference loss and then if they win the CCG they would likely be ranked below the Big 12 champ and maybe even below the G5 team if it's Boise.

Wow, Princeton has like 800 people at it's game against Dartmouth. I looked up their stadium, it's supposed to seat damn near 28,000. Ouch.

The only way a P4 champ doesn't get in is if two G6 champs are ranked ahead of them and that will never happen in the history of ever.
