Other Games 11/5 - 11/9

There is no definition. Oregon almost lost to ****ing Idaho and they're the unanimous #1 right now. ND has excellent success rate and efficiency numbers and have recruited at a high enough level to beat teams like Texas and Georgia. They'd wallop Miami. And listen, I hate ND. Screw em. But the team is very good.
Cool, but “almost losing to Idaho” and actually losing to NIU are two totally different situations.

Watching FSU is another indicator of how good a coach Prime actually is.

FSU is loaded with talent, both from HS recruiting and the portal. They have a whole bunch of guys who expected this year to be showcasing themselves for the pros.

It is hard to get guys who are used to being the most talented guy in their locker room and often the most talented guy in their HS league to buy in to a team concept.

When FSU stumbled out of the gate the effort a lot of these guys were willing to put into the team died off as well. Expect to see significant numbers of the guys who don't go pro hitting the portal.

From a talent standpoint there will be a number of guys who could help us, truthfully help most of the teams in the country. Need to be very careful though in not picking up guys who are in it for the me rather than the team.

Our roster isn't that different from FSU in that we don't have many guys who have been here 3-4 years and built a team identity.

I do think that Prime and his staff have been very careful in evaluating guys for their motives and have turned down some they could have had but didn't want. They have also been clear that they want guys to get seen but that it has to be in the context of the team winning. The winning comes first. We also know that some talented guys have been shown the door because they didn't have the attitude that Prime demands.

With that the whole thing could have fallen apart the second half of last year as the Buffs got beaten week after week. It could have taken a bad turn when we lost big to a Nebraska team that isn't as good as we are. Instead Prime held things together and kept the team focused on the team success. Now we are seeing the rewards of that.

As in many types of organizations, culture means more than some people want to admit. Talent is important but if that talent isn't working toward the organizational goal it is wasted and can drag others down around it.

Whoever eventually replaces Norvell is not only going to have to replace the talent that leaves but also fix a culture problem that exist.
But also game management today v TT. Absolutely maddening.

Question. Did Philip Rivers find the Delorean and go back in time to become BYU's quarterback? It's funny, my son asked, "why the hell does he throw the ball so weird?" Me, Idk, I guess he's comfortable throwing it that way. Him, does he remind you of anybody? Me, took about 5 fvcking seconds, yep Philip Rivers.
