Still a couple weeks until Thanksgiving but college football programs are looking for turkeys to sacrifice now.
Unhappy athletic directors are looking to fire coaches, coaches are looking to sacrifice assistants to keep their jobs.
Fall is here, winter is on the way, spring will be here sooner than we think, but even in summer Nebraska fans can’t seem to get rid of the Frost that is killing their program.
Nebraska fans will point to this week as a key in their quest for the Moral Victory National Championship as you can’t lose a bye. Adrian Martinez will probably go down to the stadium though and drop the ball or throw it to somebody in a different colored shirt just to stay in practice.
Now like a bunch of other programs are doing they are firing a bunch of assistants but the Frost won’t go away.
This week we again start with a slate of Tuesday and Wednesday MAC Action.
No outstanding matches but on Tuesday we have Buffalo (4-5) at Miami (4-5) with two schools hoping to finish strong and qualify for a bowl.
On Wednesday Ball State (5-4) goes to Northern Illinois (6-3) looking for that bowl eligibility as are both Kent State (5-4) at the Central Michigan (5-4) Chippewas.
Thursday night should be a full one with Pittsburgh (25) trying to stay in the rankings hosting an explosive North Carolina (5-4) coming off a win over ranked Wake Forest.
Friday the sacrifices start early as Cincinnati (2) will be looking for BCS style points hammering South Florida (2-7.) Like most of the rest of the MWC Wyoming (5-4) has struggled with Boise State (5-4) Both will be looking for bowl eligibility as they meet on the purple plastic in Boise.
Saturday has multiple games between ranked teams (using the AP rankings)
Last week the weirdness that is Texas A&M (11) was the center of attention beating ranked Auburn, this week they get another ranked opponent visiting Ol Miss (12).
ACC action gives us Wake Forest (13) hosting North Carolina State (21) after losing their first game of the year last week.
Game of the week in the Big 12 has Baylor (18) who’s players are known for assaulting co-eds getting abused by Oklahoma (4) who is looking for a playoff bid.
Also hoping to move into playoff contention Ohio State (6) hosts Purdue (6-3) who is just outside the top 25 and who has won 3 of their last 4 including beating ranked Iowa and Michigan State
Not looking for much change at the top of the rankings. Tennessee (5-4) is one game away from bowl eligibility. Next week they will still be one game away after getting beaten by Georgia (1).
In the mismatch of the week what may be the second worst team in college football, New Mexico State (of decay) at 1-8 gets to be the sacrificial tackling dummies at Alabama (3).
Other SEC schools can’t let Bama get an edge of them. Florida (4-5), with their head coach on the hot seat and their defensive coordinator fired this week faces mighty Samford (4-5) from the FCS (Florida’s Cash Sacrifice.) Next week we get a bunch more of examples of SEC schedule challenges.
How bad is Kansas (1-8)? Maybe not as bad as TCUs uniforms last week but Texas (4-5) has lost 4 games in a row and is still favored by 30 points
For the PAC 12 the game of interest is Washington State (5-4) who seem to be playing better without their anti-vax former head coach at Oregon (5) who is the conference's best chance for a playoff slot in recent years.
Other PAC teams looking for better bowl position include Arizona State (6-3) at Washington (4-5) who will be without their coach and Utah (6-3) at Arizona (1-8) for their turn at the free win.
Locally we get the battle of I-25 as Air Force (6-3) travels to CSU (3-6) looking for another win at Lady Gaga field. After giving up all hope in losing to their traditional rival Wyoming last week will there be enough sheep fans left in the stadium to boo Addazio’s inept coaching.
After getting shut out 35-0 by Montana Northern Colorado gets a week off to rest up and try to find some unbroken clipboards. Ed McCaffrey could copy Scott Frost and fire his offensive coordinator but Lisa would probably cut him off until he rehired their son.
The small colleges are coming down to an intense end.
Last week Mines went into Pueblo and won leaving them tied at the top of the standings with Western. Mines beat Western head to head earlier in the season so I would assume they win the tie breaker (?)
This week in the last week of scheduled action Mines hosts Adams State and Western welcomes in Pueblo.
