We here!!
But despite our Buffaloes dominating the news in the college football world again this week there are other games.
Just like last week most of the highly ranked teams are laying it all on the line against a murderers row of joke opponents.
We can be certain that fans everywhere spent the entire off-season waiting to see (1) Georgia battle it out against Ball State (0-1) and (2) Michigan bring in mighty UNLV (1-0.)
At least those opponents are BCS level programs with a pulse, (5) Ohio State is treating their fans to a “game?” against FCS Youngstown State. (7) Penn State with a Ph.D program in covering up abuse by the football program is in a battle with a bunch of chickens, not even roosters, hens bringing in the Delaware Blue Hens (1-0) from FCS who to their credit did beat Navy last year.
We start the week's slate on Thursday with Louisville (1-0) hosting, surprise an FCS program Murray State (1-0) Was Marvin State not available?
Friday night we have a contest between two undefeated power 5 programs with Illinois (1-0) at Kansas (1-0.) These two rarely get the word power associated with them and followers of college football may be shocked (Rock chock??) that one will be undefeated after a couple weeks of the season.
Saturday does offer a mix of quality games between P5 schools mixed in with a lot of mismatches.
The biggest game of the week has to be (3) Bama hosting (11) Texas. The SEC rarely sees its big programs play OOC games against quality opponents but this year they have multiple games on the schedule and so far it hasn’t been positive for them with Florida and LSU both losing.
Will Texas take down a future conference competitor? Texas has talent but they always seem to have talent. Maybe no other program in the last 20+ years has done less with their talent than Texas.
The weeks other match of top 25 teams has (20) Ole Miss visiting (24) Tulane. If Tulane from the AAC (not ACC) could knock of a ranked SEC team that would be one of the bigger stories of the week and huge for the conference.
Other games of interest include (23) Texas A&M at Miami (the one in the cockroach state) (1-0) Weird uniforms (for the fans) visits hookers and blow.
Also have the battle for the state of Iowa with Iowa (1-0) at Iowa State (1-0.) This is a game that is often boring for everyone else but has a huge emotional draw for the people of porkbellies and soybeans. No offense but the Hawkeyes have no offense, but are still likely better than the Cyclones who nobody wants to clone.
An interesting but rarely played rivalry sends Cincinnati (1-0) to Pittsburgh (1-0.)
This weeks garbage game was hard to pick among many qualified contenders. Again the New Mexico Lo Blows (0-1) get the honor. Losers of 10 straight games, all by double figures, bring in Tennessee Tech (0-1) who is a mediocre FCS team. If New Mexico loses this one it will be hard to find another win on their schedule this year.
Unlike some other conferences that specialize in using this time of the year to pad their records most of the PAC12 teams are playing legitimate opponents this week .
(12) Utah is at Baylor (0-1) who after losing to Texas State last may have to recruit a whole new generation of felons to regain competitiveness.
(13) Oregon is at Texas Tech (0-1), (8) Washington brings in Tulsa (1-0,) Cal (1-0) will try to keep the score close against visiting Auburn, and likely fail.
Washington State (1-0) who last week sheared the hope off the sheep host (19) Wisconsin. A win would likely propel the Cougars into the rankings
In an early conference game matching longtime rivals (6) USC (2-0) host Stanford (1-0)
Good news for CSU, they won’t lose this week. Only because they don’t play. They have an extra week to prepare for the biggest game of their season, their loss to the Buffaloes.
Air Force (1-0) is at Sam Houston (0-1) It’s one thing to play directional schools but are schools named after dead people another step down?
Wyoming (1-0) after beating a power 5 team at home last week should have an easier time with FCS Portland State (0-1) coming in.
Northern Colorado (0-1) hosts Incarnate Word (0-1) There may be no word for how bad UNC is this year.
Big weekend for the local small colleges
Last weekend Mines, Western, and Pueblo all got big wins against non-conference opponents.
This weekend Mines (1-0) visits Luke and DBT country playing at Angelo State (1-0) who Mines beat last year in the playoffs on the way to the championship game.
Pueblo (1-0) goes to Grand Valley State (0-1) who lost a close one at Mines last week. Grand Valley was also a #1 seed in last years playoffs.
Western (1-0) hosts a program I had never been aware of before, University of Texas Permian Basin (1-0) UTPB has a short history in football losing more than they have won but last week won their opener in a close 96-0 nailbiter. Scary to think what they could do against Fort Lewis.
Speaking of Fort Lewis (0-1) some programs seek excellence, they pursue ineptitude. This week they go to Arizona Christian (0-1) to take their beating.
