Other games week of 8/29-8/31

Oh, almost forgot -

Everyone's fave uTerus has encountered a rash of injuries at the rb position. Word is they had to move a backup qb to rb.

UNC beats San Jose State! Boom.
Both programs are a hot mess. That win would be huge for UNC.

San Jose, outside of a taste of success under MM, is almost always a candidate to lose to a lower division school.

There has been discussion on and off for years about that program being shut down or dropped to a lower division. As the cost of competing in FBS goes up and schools like San Jose fall further behind they are likely to be one of the first casualties.

Local radio playing the "they (Houston) were ranked 5th in scoring last year" card. Yeah, but that was primarily against the mighty AAC foes.

I'd love to see the Cougs pull an upset, but just don't think it'll happen.
They could put a scare into them though and cost Sooner fans a lot of money by covering the spread though.

If I'm SJSU, I try and get FHCMM to come back there. Its a golden opportunity for UNC, but Earnest Collins is a moron......so they'll probably screw it up and lose by 30.

He’s making more being a DC

Rich Rod will be the head coach at Ole Miss within 2 years and he'll bring somebody he's comfortable with. FHCMM is a turnaround specialist, especially at the G5 level-he'll wind up at a place like that or New Mexico after this year.

I think he’s shown he can do that at a P5 and will wait for another opportunity. Not sure what he needs to prove at a G5 School, especially one with very limited resources. With the way P5 coordinators are being paid and elevated now, I think you will see more and more P5 coordinators wait till they get a P5 HC job. Schools are wising up to this as well.

MM would be stupid to take a job like New Mexico.

And no way Dick Rod is HC at Ole Miss within two years.

Anyway, nice fumble by DTR on UCLA's first drive.

He's not getting a P5 job anytime soon. LOL UCLA's going to dig themselves a 14-0 hole. I already have a feeling I'm not going like McAfee in a broadcast booth

Especially now when we are seeing P5 coordinators getting paid the same kind of money that some G5 head coaches are making without having all the stresses of being a head coach.

If Ole Miss does reasonably well I would expect MM to have a G5 offer from somebody looking for a turn around in the next year or two. If he has learned his lesson and gets a staff that will recruit at a P5 level he could do well for someone.

I think you will be surprised. CU fans need to really dial back the MM hate. He has a good resume for the right jobs.
This.

Solid football guy who runs a quality organization while genuinely caring about his student-athletes as more than “assets” on a balance sheet.

He’ll do well for any program in a tailspin that needs to get back on course. Also would do well at a program like Vandy that would have modest expectations.

I don't hate him-frankly, I've defended him on here. Look at my posts. I just think the only way he gets a P5 job right now is if its at a place like Rutgers.

...which is what I am saying. You are saying he should take the G5 equivalents to those jobs, which is straight up stupid.

Miles and Jonathan Smith have a TON of rope in both spots though. I don't really see a spot for him other than Rutgers in the P5 right now.

Rutgers and Illinois are obvious answers here. But he can also reasonably hold out for very good G5 offers.

Bob Davie had to beg for New Mexico to pay for hotel stays before home games and their former AD has been indicted on fraud charges. The AD is bleeding money. It is a terrible job.

True. They'd only owe Lovie $4m and change if they dumped him this year.

People know how bad the San Jose situation is and he was successful. Even though he didn't sustain it that 10 win season in Boulder after the Embree mess speaks volumes to an AD in search of changing a culture.

Adding to that is that he is seen as a guy who runs a clean program and has very positive relationships with his players, and graduates them.
