Is it basketball season yet? This week’s schedule includes a number of games that would be headliners in basketball including Duke-North Carolina and Kansas-Iowa State. Too bad that it is still football season and those fans get to face the grim reality of potential blowouts.

We do get what looks like a solid slate of games though this week.

Thursday night starts us off with what could be a very interesting game with Miami (2-2) at Virginia (2-2.) Both of these schools have been ranked at times this season and this game could have one team turning their season in the right direction and the other turning their fans against their coaches in disappointment.

Friday’s highlight is Iowa (5) at surprising Maryland (4-0) Iowa struggled last week to beat Colorado State (Who struggles against the sheep?) and Maryland hasn’t exactly played a challenging schedule with Howard, Illinois, and Kent State the past three weeks.

Saturday brings us some big top 25 battles with two huge ones in the SEC.
After years of being down Arkansas (8) has worked their way up the standings. Very few people expect them to stay unbeaten as they go to Georgia (2) but Georgia has had a habit of dropping a game they should win over the years.

Who is more talented than Georgia? Alabama (1) has their usual busload of future draft picks as they welcome in Ol’ Miss (12) who may find their luck ol’ missing this week.

Further down the standings in the SEC is Florida (10) at Kentucky (4-0) who has a surprising start until you see how unimpressive their schedule has been getting to this point.

Another game that may mean more to the coaches than to any final standings has two 3-1 teams facing off with Auburn (22) who’s fans don’t like being so far behind Bama at LSU who lost to the one quality opponent they played this year. Just a couple years ago Ed. Orgeron was a hero in the Bayou country but now with a drop off on the field and some serious scandals off it he may be standing on some slippery mud.

The Big XII this week gives us Baylor (21) at Oklahoma State (18). Always look forward to Baylor’s hope getting smashed down into the mud with their morals. Last time they played Oklahoma State they only lost 42-3 but in their normal fashion they probably are claiming they won.

Look out as well for Oklahoma (6) at Kansas State (3-1). On paper the Sooners should roll but they still haven’t figured out that playoff contenders are supposed to dominate games having barely slipped by (relatively) Nebraska and West Virginia in the past couple weeks.

The Big Ten has no top 25 matchups but does include a couple interesting games.

Wisconsin is 1-2 but their losses are to two top 10 teams. They host Michigan (14) which is undefeated but against a less than impressive schedule. A win here would help the Badgers get their season back on track.

Rutgers (3-1) welcomes Ohio State (11) who is likely to spend a lot of time visiting the end zone as Rutgers gets exposed.

We keep waiting for Notre Dame (9) to fall, this week could very well be it as Cincinnati (7) goes to South Bend and is favored.

Speaking of favored somehow the fuskers (2-3) are favored by double digits over Northwestern (2-2) in Stinkoln this week. This might be the last chance Frost and company have to see .500 this season and may very well be their last win this year and they start playing winning B1G teams next week.

When fusker fans were invited to join the Big Ten they didn’t realize what they were getting into. A lot of them thought they had been invited to a party with a select group of the cheerleaders.
Closer to home CSU won’t be beaten this week because they have a bye. They still lose though because they have another week to consider their future in college football obscurity.

PAC 12 schedule less than inspiring.

Most interesting game is likely Arizona State (3-1) at UCLA (20) looking to take the favorite position in the South division.

Oregon (4) can't afford to slip at Stanford (2-2.)

Wyoming gets a week off as well after barely escaping humiliation by pulling out a two point win against the worst FBS team in recent memory at UConn. Next week their 4-0 record goes on the line at AFA.

AFA (3-1) heads down I-25 to play a bad New Mexico (2-2) team.

At the local small colleges things get tougher for Northern Colorado (2-2) who are much improved but probably not ready to win at a strong Montana State (3-1) who has dominated their FCS opponents this year.

In the RMAC things continue to heat up.

Western, Mesa, and Mines all continue to be undefeated as is Pueblo in conference.

That situation will thin significantly this week as Western plays Mines in Golden and Mesa visits Pueblo. Both games are available on TV, Mines on KWGN2 and Pueblo on the RMAC Network which has production values only slightly below those of the PAC12 Network (and since it is a free stream may actually be seen by more viewers.)

The OU & Texas games on the road are intriguing because that is their first conference road games since they announced they are leaving for the SEC. Fun times in Manhattan and Ft. Worth!

Houston visits Tulsa and UCF visits Navy...I think also their first road conference games since they announced they are leaving for the Big 12. Air Force is going to need security at UNM and CSU will need that in two weeks when they tumble on the rough streets of ABQ since they are said to be leaving for the AAC.

UNC has a tough road for the rest of the season. Five of their last seven games are against Big Sky Conference opponents that are in the FCS Top 25 and three of those are on the road (Montana State, UC Davis, and Weber State). Eastern Washington comes to Greeley next weekend and Montana visits later this season.

And I think I'll catch that Mines game.

Good game between Miami and Virginia.

Hard to believe that Miami spent part of last season flirting with the top 10. They have some talented players but their QB is playing like an overwhelmed freshman and their OL isn't helping.

Miami's tackling woes continue too

I expected a little more from Miami this year.

Emotionally torn. Hate them but one if those teams that I spent years of my life with the attitude of "nobody's allowed to beat Miami except Tech"

It was clear that in the last minute or so Miami was playing for the FG attempt.

Coaches are going to have to explain why they didn't at least take a shot of two at the end zone instead of leaving the game to the kicker and losing.

I want that thing to continue to go off the rails. Makes the idea of Rhett Lashlee being available this winter that much more likely.

Somewhere there's a CSU fan watching this game and thinking the Rams are better than Maryland.

Great work as always Mtn but what's with the "Is it basketball season yet?" Come on, this is a tremendous week of games with 3 top-12 matchups, some pivotal games in the B1G (Iowa-MD, Wiscy-Michigan, IU-PSU) and Big 12 (OU-KSU and Baylor-OSU), a pivotal game in Baton Rouge for both teams plus Florida at Kentucky!

Arkansas beat an A&M team that is clearly struggling with a backup QB. KJ Jefferson is a dynamic QB but if that stout Georgia defense can shut down Burks then Arkansas doesn't have any other playmakers. TE Darnell Washington is returning for the Dawgs and JT Daniels is playing better. I'd be surprised if UGA doesn't win by at least 2 scores.

In the battle of the Tigers in Death Valley who starts for Auburn? There's been alot of talk about it this week and the consensus is that Bo Nix will get the start but assuming he does I think he will be on a short leash. This is the first game of a brutal 5-game stretch for Auburn. Meanwhile LSU has been playing a little better but they probably need to go at least 8-4 to save Coach O's job and even that might not be enough.

Ole Miss at Bama - The clear headliner with Kiffin going up against Saban and Corral is the front-runner for the Heisman at this point. The Ole Miss defense is much improved (they were terrible last year) and their offense is averaging more than 80 yards per game than the next closest team in FBS, and they're averaging over 50 points per game. Saban has been sounding confident this week.

Florida at UK - Emory Jones is playing much better but if UK can solve their turnover problems the Cats could pull the upset.

Cincy at ND - This might be the biggest regular season game for a G5 team in the playoff era because if Cincy wins they have a clear path to an unbeaten season and the committee would have a hard time leaving them out. Coan should be good to go for ND. If Cincy doesn't choke they should win this one by 2 scores.

OU at KSU - Sooners and Rattler have looked like crap given their high expectations. The Wildcats have a 2-game win streak over OU.

Baylor at OSU - Nobody is paying any attention to either of these teams but they're both undefeated.

Not complaining at all about the weeks line-up of games.

Basketball comment related to some football games that involve schools better thought of as basketball schools. North Carolina is getting better at football with Mack Brown back at the helm UNC-Duke is one of the classic contest in basketball each year. Similarly Kansas is terrible at football but in recent years KU vs. ISU has had tournament implications.

Georgia is far more talented than Arkansas but how often has Georgia figured out a way to drop a game to a team with less talent than they have over the years. Not calling that shot this weekend but if it happened it would have big playoff implications for the Bulldogs and be a huge signature win for Arkansas.

Baylor has memorized the Bob Devaney Nebraska playbook on how to make your football program look good. First throw all your morals out the window taking and keeping any player regardless of what they do off the field as long as they can help you win Second schedule yourself as many easy wins as you can insuring that you OOC schedule gets you halfway to a bowl game before you are even challenged.

Oklahoma State hasn't been blowing teams out but they played a Tulsa team that put up a fight against Ohio State, Boise at Boise which isn't easy, and Kansas State which is a respectable win.

And it looks like Maryland was what Iowa needed to get itself back on track. Maryland is a bad 4-0 team

So far looks like Utah State is hanging with BYU. Don't expect that to hold but that would be a huge loss for BYU if it happened

I didn't know Jeff Lebby was the OC at Ole Miss. I know him and his older brother Kyle, Kyle was a teammate of mine. Of course, I know their punk ass dad, he was my head coach. Let's just say, we didn't get along very well because I wouldn't take his bull****, I contributed to that as well :D . Pretty cool to see Jeff doing well, though.

Anyone think Ole Miss can beat Bama?
Yes. Their offense is as explosive as Bama's in my opinion and Lane has been prepping for a year for this. Ultimately, Ole Miss D is mediocre and Alabama just has more athletes everywhere. Going to need to get a lead to force Bama QB in pressure situations for that to happen
