With the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships just completed within the last week, the track and field teams IMMEDIATELY switch to outdoor mode, with the 1st meet of the season, being held at the renovated home track, scheduled for this Friday and Saturday in Pueblo.

Best wishes to the men's and women's teams - hope they all stay healthy, run faster, jump longer and/ or higher and throw farther throughout the season!

As with the other "individual" sports, I plan on us using this thread to collect / report the results for and news regarding the team during the regular season, and then setting up individual Championships threads once the post-season begins.

(This year's post-season meets, as also listed in the below, are the Big 12 Championships beginning May 15th, Western Regionals in College Station starting 5/28, and Championships Finals in Eugene beginning 6/11.)

Full Outdoor Schedule (From cubuffs.com; as of 3/20/25.)
(Note- I'd say compared to ANY other Buff sport, the track and field teams' schedules are the most fluid, with it being common for meets in which the Buffs plan to compete in being added and dropped from the schedule as the season unfolds.):

(Note- I just largely copied the below about qualifying for NCAA preliminaries from what I wrote/ quoted in 2023's outdoor T&F thread, with the main changes being updating the links to season's best to the current year's results.)

NCAA's homepage - https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2013/11/4/division-i-men-s-and-women-s-outdoor-track-and-field.aspx

2024/25 Pre-Championships Manual - https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/ch...d1/outdoortf/2024-25D1XTO_PreChampsManual.pdf

Edit- Wanted to add links to the official webpages where outdoor season bests are kept. This is important because, as from what I've read (see http://www.ustfccca.org/meets-results/ncaa-championship-qualifying-criteria#d1OTF or https://www.ncaa.com/championships/trackfield-outdoor/d1/road-to-the-championships for the full qualifying procedures.) -
  • For multi-event athletes, the top 24 marks in the country by a designated date (usually right after conference championships complete for all the teams) for each gender get to go to the NCAA championships and
  • For all other individual events, the top 48 marks, distances or heights in each preliminary region (west and east) by athletes who accept entry for each event by a designated date (usually right after conference championships complete for all the teams) get to go to the NCAA preliminaries to try and qualify for the championships.
  • For the 4X100M and 4X400 meter relays, it's the Top 24 times who accept entry in each of the 2 regions that qualify for the preliminaries.
Links are-
For multi-events (National bests; since there are no multi-event marks yet as I type this in mid-March, the links are to the generic lists for all events for each gender as of now.) -

Women's Heptathlon - https://tf.tfrrs.org/lists/5018/2025_NCAA_Division_I_Outdoor_Qualifying_List?gender=f#event40

For other events (West region bests) -
Men's - https://tf.tfrrs.org/lists/5053/2025_NCAA_Div_I_West_Outdoor_Qualifying?gender=m

Women's - https://tf.tfrrs.org/lists/5053/2025_NCAA_Div_I_West_Outdoor_Qualifying?gender=f

Both genders events listed/ combined - https://tf.tfrrs.org/lists/5018/2025_NCAA_Division_I_Outdoor_Qualifying_List

(As I pasted this edit March 13th, 2024, the season is still very young as to athletes working towards their best marks, so it's often more helpful to look at LAST season's marks to get a ROUGH idea of what marks MIGHT be needed to qualify for regionals. 2023's marks for Western men can be found at https://tf.tfrrs.org/lists/4574/2024_NCAA_Div_I_West_Outdoor_Qualifying_List?gender=m while the women's is at
https://tf.tfrrs.org/lists/4574/2024_NCAA_Div_I_West_Outdoor_Qualifying_List?gender=f .

Further note- The NCAA also allows a couple type of conversions be used to calculate the top marks-
  • For a few distances on the track, marks in NCAA non-standard races are converted up or down to be used for qualifying purposes. (For example- times in mile races outdoor can be converted to 1500M times.) The conversion factors for this are at http://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/NCAA_Track_Event_Conversions.pdf .
  • Also, the NCAA has a SEPARATE APP (see http://www.ustfccca.org/meets-results/ncaa-championship-qualifying-criteria#d1OTF for the link) that converts all track times for events competed at altitude to official "sea level" times. (It's the converted times that show up in the above linked-to tfrrs.org top marks lists.) In general, middle distance (800M) and longer races run at altitude calculate to FASTER "sea level" times, while shorter races (400M and less) at altitude calculate to SLOWER times at sea level.

Buffs Split for Raleigh Relays and Mines Midweek Meet

By: Herman Shelton, Associate Director/Athletic Communications

BOULDER
— The University of Colorado track and field team will split up this weekend, with the distance squad traveling east for the N.C. State Raleigh Relays, while the sprints, multis and throws groups will compete closer to home at the Mines Midweek Meet on Thursday.

The Mines Midweek Meet, added to the schedule after poor weather affected last week's competition and more inclement conditions are anticipated this weekend, is set to begin at 1 p.m. Thursday. The triangular will feature athletes from Colorado School of Mines, MSU Denver and CU.

Twelve CU men will travel to Golden for the meet, including the 4x100-meter relay team, while the women's squad will feature eight athletes competing across 11 events. Nylah Perry is slated to make her CU debut in the 400-meter hurdles. Abby Miller and Emma Pollak will join her in the same event.

The Buffaloes will head to North Carolina for the first time in program history as 17 distance athletes gear up for the Raleigh Relays. Twelve men will compete across three events, the 5,000 meters, 10,000 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase, while five women will take on the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. Among them is New Zealand native Hannah Prosser, a Boston College transfer who will make her CU debut in the 10,000 meters.

Last weekend, CU's underclassmen showed out at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational in Pueblo, with standout performances from Myla Wilkes, AJ Glavicic and Helen Carlson. Wilkes opened her collegiate outdoor career by sweeping the 100 meters (11.73) and 200 meters (23.87), while Glavic won the 400 meters in 47.69 seconds—matching teammate Nick Gehring for the top mark. Carlson posted the second-fastest time of the day in the 800 meters at 2:15.97 in her outdoor debut.

Freshman Conner Wirth also notched the top time in the 5,000 meters at 15:32.75, and CU swept the top three spots in the women's 400-meter hurdles, led by Aubrey Leweaver (1:01.29).

Next week, the Buffaloes return to Boulder for their only home meet of the season—the Jerry Quiller Classic, April 4–5 at Potts Field. CU will also honor its senior class with a special Senior Day celebration during the meet. It will also be Alumni C Club Day; all CU letterwinners are invited to attend. Food and beverages will be provided for letterwinners while supplies last.

Looks like the team had many nice performances, including MANY PR's (personal records), with many of those being for the younger Buffs, and a few even being Top 10 marks in the CU record books, in 3 meets the team participated in from Thursday - Saturday. (cubuffs.com hasn't released an article on yesterday's results yet, although that day only had a relatively few participants competing at a CSU meet. If / when they post an article on that day's results, I'll post about it.)

RALEIGH, N.C.; FORT COLLINS, Colo
.-- The women's distance group kept the momentum rolling from their male distance counterparts, posting multiple personal bests Friday evening at the N.C. State Raleigh Relays.

The throws group saw early-season action at the Jack Christiansen College Invitational in Fort Collins. With the weather holding off, the Buffs' hammer throwers got their chance in the ring. Amanda Opp recorded a top-three finish with a mark of 53.96 meters, and on the men's side, Ames Newman threw 54.06 meters.

Up Next: The running groups are set to compete at the Jack Christiansen College Invitational, pending weather conditions. The Buffs will then shift focus to the Jerry Quiller Classic, which will feature Senior Day and Alumni C Club Day festivities, next weekend
