P12 to make any team that is unable to play through their own fault, eg COVID, forfeit

I can tell you I’m going to be really pissed off if I get tickets to go to LA and watch the UCLA game only to have it forfeited - probably by us.

On a more serious note, I think this is bad policy. It will only encourage teams to hide outbreaks. We should be encouraging transparency.

Time to enforce that vaccination requirement and deploy the quarantine rules from last year.

I agree with the policy, but worry that we are going to be seeing so many positives from vaccinated people due to variants that even those who do everything right will end up in a bad spot.
Yep. Positive tests when there are no quarantining, mask mandates or social distancing requirements anywhere is the dumbest way to implement this policy.

I wouldn't call going to a massive post-game kegger doing everything right, Nik. Players need to have the self-discipline to not be doing that still.

Hopefully, the testing regimen is different for the vaccinated than the unvaccinated.
Probably will be, but what happens when a vaccinated player tests positive because they haven’t been wearing masks, quarantining, etc? This almost has the potential to be worse than last season with positives because no precautions have really been taken

Here's an ESPN article which, in addition to the forfeiting policy, also goes into what the testing and quarantining policies will be - https://www.espn.com/college-footba...-teams-forfeit-unable-play-due-covid-19-cases

....

Earlier this month, the conference also updated its return-to-play protocols related to COVID-19, which, for vaccinated individuals, will no longer mandate regular testing or quarantine after exposure to those who have tested positive.

Unvaccinated individuals, which includes players, coaches and other staff, are required to be tested and quarantine after returning to campus following non-team-related travel, go through regular testing (one PCR test per week or three antigen tests per week) and wear a mask while indoors. These individuals are also subject to quarantine guidelines as set by the CDC, which can include 10-day quarantine periods, when exposed to those who have tested positive.

Teams that reach 85% vaccination rates are subject to modified protocols.

Present indications are that many vaccinated people who test positive only have the virus present in their nasal cavities and never really have the disease. So maybe a negative test a couple of days later would clear a vaccinated player.

Reckon that'll be us v ASU or USC this season.

“regarded as a conference loss for the team”

What happens if a school can’t field a team for non-conference game? We’re Pac-12 and do dumb ****. Is the league going to issue a loss? According to this it will also be a CONF loss.

What happens if a OOC school can’t field a team? I’m guessing the Pac-12 will still issue the Pac-12 school (provided it’s not USC or Oregon) a loss since Pac-12.

Looking forward to that parade in Flagstaff where NAU is declared the Arizona state champs because Arizona had to forfeit their game against NAU due to COVID-19 and then ASU forfeits their game against UA because of a COVID-19 outbreak due to Herm Edwards hosting some COVID positive recruits earlier in the week because he "had no idea".

Would be the most Buff **** thing ever for us to get the first "win" against USC as a win by forfeit and still have the monkey on the back.
Much like the two **** calls cost the Buffs the USC game in 2019…and letting Montez back in after the cheap bell ringing. I could see USC having to forfeit, but after some review and consideration, CU gets the L

To this, it seems that CU (and many PAC schools according to Wilner) have ramped up the vaccinations and will be at or very close to 100% by season.
That however, may do far less than we've been thinking on the Delta variant. I personally know 2 older relatives who had breakthrough cases and just learned of a a family of 5 (3 generations aged 2 to 70s) with it, with all but the 2 YO having been vaccinated.

Daily Camera today states that if a player has not been vaccinated, they must wear a mask to meetings. OK. That means nobody else is and that's a flaw. We all need to be masking up indoors especially in tight quarters, period. Even Gerg.
