PAC 12 Foolishness

So the latest victim of the typical PAC 12 over reaction to a (non) problem.

Washington State escapes against Boise 47-44. Normally not a big deal but Wazzou hasn't won a lot in recent years so the fans decided to rush the field. The PAC12 per policy fines them $25,000 and if it happens again this year the fine is $100,000.

I'm not a big fan of rushing the field and beating an unranked MWC opponent shouldn't be considered a monumental win but come on, $25,000 leading to maybe $100,000 if they win another one that get the fans excited.

I know we have paid some of these fines as have other schools. This one makes little sense. Let the fans have fun, make it a great experience and maybe they continue as fans well after graduation and potentially become regular donors.

I understand the safety argument but exactly how many players or coaches have been injured in these field rushes? Instead of trying to keep the fans off the field with a thinly stretched line of security why not use those same security people to create an on-field corridor for teams to exit through.

Shouldn't be a surprise though coming from the conference that can't figure out how to have competent officials calling the games. I'd venture that poor officiating is a bigger risk to players than fans rushing the field.

God forbid, players and students actually have some fun. Besides, I don't think they rushed the field because they beat Boise. Think it was how they did it more than anything. Policy is policy I guess.

Let's not throw stones. I was in school when students rushed the field against Iowa State and Texas Tech during the 2006 season. I also wouldn't put it past our students to rush after beating CSU at folsom. Didn't they rush after beating CSU in basketball a few years ago?

Go look up the incident at Camp Randall Stadium in Wisconsin.

If something horrible happens, the same people who say, "let them have fun" will be calling for officials' heads for not doing enough to prevent this sort of thing.

Who cares? Rushing the field is fun and ads to the atmosphere that differentiates college football from the NFL. If a Pac12 team's fans rush the field against an unworthy opponent, it's fair game for other fan bases to taunt and tease, but I think the Pac 12 officials should stay out of it.

I don't like it but I can certainly see how it happens. The season after we won 1 game I could see our fans rushing the field after a win that came down to the last plays of the game and they would have some justification, even if it was a G5 opponent.

I understand the idea of risk to the teams. I just think that you could be a lot more effective by creating exit routes rather than trying to keep the fans off the field. Create a cordon around the teams and ref and escort them to the entrance to the locker areas.

What happened at Camp Randall had nothing to do with risk to the teams/officials/coaches.

Pick your spots. If we beat Washington, I'll be pissed if our students don't rush the field. Im sure theres a way to get the Washington players and coaches off the field before the students come on if thst happens. Don't rush against unranked Boise.

The students should rush the field after the UNC win, revenge 83 years in the making requires it. Right DBT?

IMO, every school should be granted one field rush a year.

A win tomorrow night would be a good field rushing moment, and the players would deserve that moment to celebrate with their fellow students, as well as the students deserving to celebrate with the team.

The flip side of that would be, if you rush the field after a win over Boise ****ing State, you're screwed in terms of rushing later on in the year. (Doesn't Wazzu have SC coming to town this year?)

As much as I'd love to see it Wazzu beat SC I don't think they need to worry about ending that game rushing the field. Unless SC just doesn't show up they will not only win but cover, even if it is a big number.
