Pac-12 Network on Sling TV

How soon after the game can you re-watch on Sling?

Assuming laptop or iPad works as a device? I'll be streaming on road this week so thinking Sling would be best way to re watch game Sat night
as soon as it airs the first time. I have gone to every home game - but I love my sling Tv. I have re watched every game and have watched a lot of our competition also. + you get movies and can watch anywhere on your phone. I actually purchased a cable so I can connect my Galaxy to any TV (computer monitor) anywhere. Tatanka explained it perfectly. Get Sling, download app, start watching. Get the sports package (xtra $5 monthly). You will not regret

Due to my mother-in-law fighting Alzheimer's, we have moved my father-in-law and her into assisted living. He had season tickets for CU from 1967 through the fifth your Hawkins and cannot watch the buffs now at the home. He has an iPad so that is enough to purchase sling? He does have a TV in his room, can you also purchased a box and run a cable to the TV to stream it to the TV? I'm trying to figure out options that are as technologically simple as possible for him.

YES and YES.

On iPad, load the Sling TV app, launch it and log in - ready to go. I did that on my iPad.

You can purchase a box (streaming device like Apple TV or Chromecast or Roku), and run an HDMI cable to the tv. I did the free Roku 2 promotion through Sling, though you can also get upgrade to a newer-version device for a discounted price, with 3 months of prepaid Sling TV service for $75 (assuming they are still running the promotion). I had to call Sling to get it though, wasn't any way to access that promotion via the web site.

I had no problem getting the discounted Apple TV through the website. Just click the button.

FYI, Sling's Orange plan allows three simultaneous streams so if you wanted to dump your cable/satellite service at home you could use two Sling streams at your house while your mother-in-law is watching at her place. The only thing is you don't get local channels on Sling so if you want to watch live sports like the NFL you'll need to hook up an over the air (OTA) antenna. There is actually a device called HDHomeRun that allows you to distribute OTA TV to your Apple TV streaming boxes over your local network. You buy the box and hook an antenna to it. Then connect to your network via WiFi or Ethernet. Then you install an App called Channels on your Apple TV and/or iOS devices. Yeah, there is a some up front investment, but in the long run you'll save a lot going Sling + OTA. I'm doing Sling and OTA antenna plugged straight into the TVs right now, but I'll probably add the HDHomeRun soon. Then everything will be done through the Apple TV. Sling, OTA, Netflix, Hulu, iTunes movie rentals and purchases, Apple Music. Easy for the less technically inclined in the house. No switching inputs on the TV and Receiver. Just choose the app on the Apple TV. Plus an on screen guide for OTA channels like they are used to.

I think the issue for me might have been that I originally signed up for the 7-day free trial (where I streamed it through Windows), canceled during the 7 days where I didn't get charged, then decided to subscribe for real a week later. At that point, it recognized me as a prior customer from the free trial, but wouldn't allow me to select any of the promotional options. It just wanted me to start the paid service. I did try to do the "Get This Deal" for the Roku but it just routed me through the package selection and never indicated I was getting the box. Maybe it would have anyway, but I just aborted the process and called them up to make sure.

You purchase the apple tv, and then you can use airplay to mirror the ipad to your tv screen through the appletv. The apple tv is connected to the tv with an hdmi cable.

Not necessary to use AirPlay. There is a native Sling app for Apple TV. Just go to the app store on Apple TV and download the app for free.

I think CU827 is just confusing you with the AirPlay talk. AirPlay is for sending audio or video from an iPad or iPhone to an Apple TV. You don't need to do that with the current generation of Apple TV. To watch on the iPad, install the iPad Sling app and log in. Even older iPads should be able to run Sling with no problem. To watch on Apple TV, install the Apple TV Sling app and log in. Simple.

In ranking order of simplicity for old man to use, assuming he already knows how to use his ipad:

1. Subscribe to sling, install sling app on ipad, watch on his ipad*.
2. Subscribe to sling, get new apple tv, connect to tv, install sling app, watch on tv.
3. Subscribe to sling, get roku, connect to tv, install sling app, watch on tv.

If he didn't already have familiarity with the apple ios through using an ipad, I would rate #2 and #3 as equally easy. But given familiarity with an apple interface, apple tv would be easier than a roku, and of course, forgoing the tv and just watching on the ipad would be easiest of all.

*must be at least an ipad 2 or newer. The original ipad will not run the sling app, all others should be fine.

It's looking like we're about to cut the cord and move to Sling. I was going to wait until we moved up to the farm, but figured we could get a start on it now. Service is good as long as you have solid I'net I assume? If we do the $40 package (orange & blue), it is pretty much any of the channels we ever watch so definitely looking forward to saving about $120 a mth on the cable bill. The Pac 12 network going to it was really the nail in the coffin on the deal for me. Watching the Buffs is the only thing that has kept us on AT&T

Yeah, the streams are as rock solid as Netflix or Hulu. It was a little sketchier for me with occasional drops to SD quality when I first subscribed, but they've clearly made infrastructure improvements because it's been great the last few months. One caveat: No Dolby Digital 5.1 yet on any channel as far as I've noticed so you'll only get Dolby Pro Logic when watching with surround sound. I'm sure they'll be adding that before long. It's not a big deal for me since I mostly just use Sling for sports and do all my TV show and movie watching without commercials on Netflix, HBO Now, Hulu, iTunes and blu-ray.

As I said above, HDHomeRun + Apple TV + Channels app is a great solution for over the air channels that you can't get on Sling and TitanTV is a great free guide service that will allow you to make a custom channel lineup with all of your Sling and OTA channels.

You need a pretty solid connection. Somewhere online there are specs you'll need to test your current and future connection against.

Not paying DTV $135 a month anymore? (y)(y)(y)

Not paying Qwest $60 a month anymore? (y)(y)(y)

Gigabit fiber kicks ass. :cool::cool::cool:

Thank you gentlemen for your responses.
We should be solid on the net as we have access to all fiber'd broadband.

Bummer on the lack of Dolby 5.1. I'm kind of used to it though as I have an 11.2 setup, which of course is pretty much all simulated sound past 5.1. It is pretty sweet on sporting events as I can hear individuals in the crowd at times. Flip side to that is sometimes I hear things that are crazy annoying and I can't drop it. For example, Michigan game, there was someone in the crowd that just screamed OOOOOoooOooooOoooooOOOooOoooooOOOooooooooooooOooOoOoooooooOoOooOOo...for about 20 minutes. It was rear channel too so it was like someone was standing behind me. Mainly basketball games are where it's most notable. Good to know about Sling being reliable.

The wife and I will be discussing it this weekend, probably get the ball rolling Sunday, that way I don't even flirt with missing the Buffs.

On a side note, I also watched a video of how to jailbreak a firestick and watch everything through KODI. Anyone have issues with that? It might be something I tinker with later on, but from reading about it seemed somewhat unreliable.

You dont have to jailbreak it. In settings you switch to allow purchases from third parties outside the Amazon app store. Kodi used to be offered thru the Amazon app store. Kodi is pretty solid. Watch a youtube video on how to download it first. Its kind of pain and will cost a couple of hours to get it all on there (or just keep paying comcast). Some channels are supported by Kodi's parent organization. Others channels are there but not supported. Its a bit of a pandoras box. If you have kids there is also porn on it. Becareful what apps you download is the point.

There is a reddit with some good info on Kodi. https://www.reddit.com/r/kodi/

So I won't get home tomorrow until sometime after 3 pm. If I want to watch the game from the beginning is it possible to do while it's still live, or would I have to wait till it's over and archived in some way?

Also, chromecast looks like a pretty cheap way of getting it on the tube from my MacBook Pro. Any thoughts?

This has proven tricky with Sony Vue. And Id imagine with Sling too. Basically, for Vue, the game is on live so I have to be careful when I call it up to not look at the TV while rewinding to the beginning.

Yes, you can watch from the beginning while it's still airing live. When you tune to a live show on Pac-12, it asks if you want to watch live or from the beginning. Also, you can actually scroll back up to three days on Pac-12 and watch any content that has already aired. They also have a separate selection of on demand content. (These sorts of features vary from channel to channel on Sling. Depends on the contracts they have with the networks.)

I have no experience using Chromecast, but my understanding is that it allows you to stream content from the Chrome browser to the Chromecast. That wouldn't work for Sling. Sling has a dedicated app for Mac and PC. You can't watch in a web browser like Netflix or Hulu. If you want to use your Mac to watch on a TV, you'll need to use an HDMI cable. Or just shell out a little dough for a discounted Apple TV and use the native Apple TV app. $89 instead of $149 if you pre-pay for 3 months of service. Of course, you'll have to wait for that to come in the mail so it won't help you for the Stanford game.

Sling had an offer for a free Roku 2 or discounted Roku 3, but that doesn't appear to be available anymore.

Once they get a DVR type system, I will be switching.

They do. You mark the programming you want. For instance I "marked" NCAA college football in Sony Vue and it records EVERY college game for you.

Oregon game in the background. Upcoming and New listed by the little colored badges at upper right of each item.

This game was "recorded" 10/8. In reality its just in the cloud to call up when and if you want it.

It's pretty awesome because you dont have to manage it. But if you want to keep it forever you'll likely need to do something else. I had stuff on my DTV DVRs when I returned them that, in the end, I was kind of meh about keeping when it came down to the work to do that.

Is that only with Sony Vue?

Just make sure you select the original live broadcast. For the USC broadcast I selected the replay, and for some stupid ****ing reason they put the final score in the ticker.

On another note, **** tickers. I hate them.
