Pac-12

SDSU 64 Cal 63. SDSU now 2-0 against the Pac-12's "best" teams this year, as the Aztecs already have a W in Tucson. SDSU lost 4 starters from last year's team

Some good P12 games this week: Washington has a brutal week, going to see if they can rebound after getting blown out by St. Louis and losing a close one to Nevada this past week. Personally I think Washington is going to get it together and make a run at some point this season. Watching them play Nevada they had way more talent, they just couldn't get it together, when they do watch out.

Washington (4-2) vs. Marquette (7-0), Tuesday (12/6): 9:00pm EST

The second game of the Jimmy V Classic features two similar teams to the event's first match-up. Marquette, fresh off a road win at Wisconsin remains undefeated to begin the season, entering the contest at 7-0 overall. The Huskies, on the other hand, have dropped games to both Saint Louis and Nevada already, and Tuesday night's contest is the first of two crucial, non-conference tilts for Washington.

Arizona (6-2) at Florida (5-2), Wednesday (12/7): 7:00pm EST

Arizona travels to Gainesville to prepare for what is likely their toughest, non-conference battle on the season. Each team has two losses heading into this week, but Florida's only blemishes on the year have come on the road at two of the top teams in the country (Ohio State & Syracuse). The Gators have the advantage in the back court due to their experience and high production to begin the year.

Washington (4-2) vs. Duke (7-1), Saturday (12/10): 12:00pm EST

Washington and Duke will meet at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, a game that will serve as the second such contest in New York City for the Huskies this week. After falling to Ohio State last Tuesday, Duke will match-up with Colorado State on Wednesday before making the trip to MSG this upcoming weekend.

All of those will be losses

Anyone on that Utah roster could have had his play reviewed and been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team.
This is hilarious until we play them and struggle. We won't but it becomes significantly less funny at that point.

First ESPN conf bball rankings out - P12..................8th

B10ish 1, B12ish 2, Big East 3 and the biggest surprise to me was the SEC at 4 ahead of the ACC at 5.

Josiah Turner suspended for the UA-UF game tomorrow. Supposedly missed practice. Between this and Sidiki Johnson leaving the team, interesting things going on in Tucson.

Washington gave Marquette a great game, but still lost 77-79.

And now the Huskies face Duke next...

Washington is a funny team lately, certainly capable of hanging with/occasionally beating the best...but also known for bad losses and puzzling losing streaks.

We've got a big slate of games tomorrow, aside from our own:

Arizona (6-2) @ #12 Florida (5-2)

Nevada (5-3) @ Arizona State (3-4)

Washington State (4-4) @ Idaho (4-3)

Cal State Fullerton (4-3) @ Utah (1-6)

San Jose State (3-5) @ Cal (6-2)

Buffs need to take care of business tomorrow, as I have a feeling this might be another embarrassing night for the Pac-12. CU, Cal and Wazzu should win, but Zona isn't going to beat the Gators, and if Nevada can beat Washington then they can beat ASU. It goes without saying that Utah is just an absolute trainwreck.

Washington looked impressive against Marquette. Would not be surprised for them to end up at the top of the conference. Not looking forward to playing them in pac-12 action.

You don't want to catch them on a good night, but they're very streaky and inconsistent, as evidenced by a 4-3 (soon to be 4-4) record including a big loss to Saint Louis and a loss to Nevada as well. Definitely looking forward to their visit to the Keg. That's one nice break in the schedule for us -- we don't have to face them on the road this year.

UW completely plays to their competition right now, they were head and shoulders better than Nevada and let them hang around and lost. They came out flat against St Louis and never never competed but I don't expect that to happen much. I have probably watched more UW basketball than any other team this year (every one of their games seems to be on TV), I really like their squad but they don't always play under control. At times they seem more concerned about trying to be on SportsCenter than winning. I really think this team has the most talent in the P12 and will win the P12 if they play under control and tone in down a bit.

UW is a very borderline tourney team the way it's looking. There are several NBA guys on the squad but they're not a team at this point and its disappointing. They played okay vs. Marquette yesterday, but they are still too sloppy and inexperienced and cannot close out games or even play for a full 40 minutes. There is nobody stepping up into a leadership role right now.

They're also playing a lot of youth (I counted at least four freshman on the court yesterday, may have been more). Senior Scott Suggs should be returning any day now from foot surgery a few weeks ago, and his presence has been sorely missed. Hopefully his return helps.

The point guard play has been awful for UW so far. Abdul Gaddy has returned from injury last year, but he is playing tentative and poor. He was outplaying Isaiah Thomas before he was hurt last year but his play this year has been a major disappointment. Wroten has vast potential but it's clear he's 18. He will be great someday, once he minimizes stupid turnovers and can shoot FTs. His bad FT percentage will keep him off the floor at the end of games right now. Very sloppy PG play with too many turnovers and lack of focus is costing the Huskies big time.

I think Washington will be a much improved team later in the year with more experience by the freshman, but right now they don't have an identity. If it continues long Washington will have to win the Pac tourney for a dance ticket. I see 2 or 3 teams at most from the Pac being invited this year. Duke on Saturday is almost a must win for them to get a ticket to the dance without winning the Pac tourney.

In short, CU is likely catching UDub at the perfect time -- in Boulder during Xmas break.

We should also be a lot better when the conference tourney rolls around. I think you'll be the favorites by then.

Wow the Pac12 (especially Utah) really is terrible:

We're currently the only team winning as of right now:

Arizona lost in OT at Florida
ASU looking to lose at home to Nevada, down 7 with a minute left
Cal State Fullerton has a 30 point lead in Utah.....Nice
Washington State losing to Idaho, althought it's just started

Come on Buffs! Represent!

And...ASU goes down, 69-61. Devils fall to 3-5

Wazzu in control in Moscow, 35-25 at the half

Cal taking a dump on San Jose State

Arizona shouldn't have even gotten into OT last night. They were down by 3 and inbounded the ball and the refs called a ridiculous shooting foul and gave Arizona 3 shots which were all made to send it into OT.

If you don't read the P12 bball blog pachoops.com, you should. If not for the basketball coverage for lines like this: "and he couldn’t stop a sorority girl from getting to her flavored vodka let alone a Florida guard" from today's post.

This may be the worst I've ever seen the Pac.

Anyone think we'll have more than two teams in the dance?

Want a spot? Better get the conference auto-bid!

Today's ray of hope for why CU will still finish in the middle of the Pac:

USC (4-6) has the 339th ranked offense averaging 53ppg. They've managed to score 36 in a loss to Cal-Poly, 40 in a loss to Minnesota, and 41 in a loss to New Mexico. They did manage a whopping 61 in a loss to Nebraska....but unfortunately it took them 2 overtimes to get there.

That usc/ucla game is going to be a terrble one, lucky to draw a couple thousand.

ASU lost at home to Northern Arizona tonight. I don't know how the conference can be this bad.

Edit: Gonzaga also beat Arizona by 11.

Georgia @ USC is definitely one to keep an eye on tonight.
