Phil Steele 2019 preview

The Nebraska offense is a question mark. I like Martinez as a QB. I think he’s excellent and tailor made for Frosty’s offense. The TE position is solid with Jack Stoll. The offensive line lost three starters from last year, so they need the younger guys to step up. The WR group is extremely thin. Spielman has some speed, but is 5’9” and there isn’t much proven behind him. At RB, the presumed starter Washington should be off to jail, but it is Nebraska so you never know. Again an unproven group.

Defense wasn’t great last year, but it should be improved. The DL is good.

The game at Folsom will probably be close to a toss up with Vegas, although I think the spread will move to the Huskers, with them ultimately giving something like 4.5 points.

Not a gambler but the Buffs +4.5 is a steal.

Phil Steele sells a magazine. He isn't dumb.

He can do all his research and evaluations but he knows that if he says nice things about certain schools he sells a lot more magazines. Nebraska fans are more than happy to spend to read an "expert" say they are going to win.

The magazine sells online with a download for $12.99 or delivered hard copy for $22.99. A few thousand fusker fans buying makes a big difference.

Phil Steele picked Nebraska 4th in the Big Ten West for the 2018 season.

Nebraska returns 3 offensive linemen starters in 2019:

LT - Brendan Jaimes - 24 career Starts
RG- Boe Wilson - 10 starts in 2018
RT- Matt Farniok - 12 starts in 2018

#1 JUCO RB Dedrick Mills will be the starting Tailback - He had 850 yards and 12 TDs as a true freshman at Georgia Tech in 2016. He was kicked out for failing too many drug tests. Spent last year at Garden City CC where he was 1st Team JUCO all-american.

Huskers also bring in 4-Star Rahmir Johnson, a speedster from Bergan Catholic in New Jersey

I doubt Nebraska kicks out Washington. His charges will be pleaded down to a misdemeanor with no jail time. - They likely suspend him vs. South Alabama and then "oh look" he's ready to play vs. CU.

Starting receivers:

X- Spielman
Z- Kanaiwai Noa (Transfer from CAL)
R- Wandale Robinson - HS All-American 4-Star also backed up by Miles Jones also a former HS All-American from Florida

Biggest offensive question mark is who the hell plays Center?

Defense will be decent on the front end and the back end. Safeties will include two former 4-Stars, ESPN 300 players in Marquel Dismuke and Deontai Williams. Cornerback has two NFL prospects in Jackson and Bootle.

Linebackers depth at Nebraska is piss poor.

Nebraska is one Martinez twisted knee from being a below average team. Frankly, their depth is an abomination.

Every potential top 40 team, outside of maybe Bama or Clemson, is a starting QB injury from being below average.

And Nebraska's depth will be dramatically improved with the exception of inside Linebacker.

I believe the mag is supposed to be out in stores tomorrow.

Is Limon in Nebraska or Colorado?

Wait tOSU goes to 5-7 if Fields gets hurt?

Or Georgia with Fromm?

When referring to Bama and Clemson, I wasn't being literal. You knew what I meant. Georgia might fit in there as well... But have you seen Ohio State's QB depth? Its terrible. They seriously would be fvcked in Day's first season if he Fields goes down. That's magnified because Day wants to throw the football 40 times per game.

Easy there on the kool-aid. The Husker QBs outside of Bunch will still be sophs and frosh. Martinez goes down so does the Huskers. That UCF transfer hasn't played a down of P5 football which is a big jump from the AAC which does not possess the physical teams of the Big Ten. Plus you know what one play can do to a QB.

So, you are thinking 13-0 or 12-1 and still in the national title game?

No ****... I just think its a silly point. Virtually every team will struggle if their stud starting QB gets injured. Nobody is looking at Nebraska's value for 2019 and basing it on their backup QB. If Martinez wasn't in Lincoln, Phil Steele sure as hell wouldn't have Nebraska as his most improved team in the country.

Every team? Tell that to Utah who lost their starting QB with at least a few games to go and still made the Pac-12 CCG. Both QBs return for the Utes this season and Phil Steele has them listed as the #1 surprise team this year.

No.. I think Nebraska goes 8-4, and Does NOT win their division. They will be much better though.

That seems reasonable for expectations for the Huskers. Next year will be that big year for the Huskers IMO...especially with that depth at QB which would include Martinez and McCafferty.

Wow, like the enthusiasm, like what you're saying. Thing is, run your qb, and see what happens. I know, it was dirty. Bunch of hillbilly pussies. Maybe, one day, you guys can win a title without a bunch of juicing psychos on the field.

Funny thing is that my copy of Phil Steele didn't have the B1G West teams and had another copy of the SEC West in their place. If it was a bad batch, you might want to avoid B&N near Southwest Plaza Mall in Littleton since that's where I got that magazine.
