The more I think about and read about Gibbs, the more excited I am about his abilities. Here are some numbers that I put together via ESPN.
2014 Defensive Comparison:
Houston gave up 19.5 ppg (#11) - CU gave up 39 ppg (#120)
Houston forced 40 turnovers this season (19 picks/11 fumbles) - CU had 11 (3 picks/8 fumbles)
Houston recorded 26 sacks this season - CU had 22
Houston had 36 passes deflected - CU had 45
Houston had 1 defensive TD - CU had 0
One stat I thought was interesting:
Houston recorded 453 solo tackles and 448 assisted tackles for 901 total. CU recorded 511 solo tackles and 236 assisted tackles for 747 total.
This tells me that either A) Houston is more generous with their statistics than CU or B) Houston had a much more aggressive approach of running to the ball and making gang tackles. Due to the fact that they forced 4 times the turnovers that CU did this season, my gut tells me that they were much more aggressive and flew around to the ball.
2013 Comparison:
21.8 ppg (#20) - CU 38.3 ppg (#115)
43 turnovers (25 picks/18 Fumbles) - CU had 21 (11 picks/10 fumbles)
31 sacks - CU had 17
2 Defensive TD's each
587 solo tackles and 460 asst tackles (1047 total) - CU had 575 solo and 270 (845 total)
