Pre-Camp Predictions: Starting Offense

There is only one position in the OL that I am fairly certain of: Arlington Hambright will start at LT.

I also think it’s almost certain that Lynott and Sherman will start somewhere on the line, position TBD.

The rest of the line is a guess, since there hasn’t been anything consistent out of camp reports to suggest who wins the other two spots.

Only thing you hear is that roddick is a big dude.

Week 1:
QB: Montez
RB: Mangham
WR: Viska
WR: KD
WR/TE: Brown
TE: Harris
OT: Hambright
OT: Sherman
OG: Drop Foot (Moretti)
OG: Lynott
C: Pursell

Week 7:
QB: Lytle
RB: Mangham
WR: Viska
WR: Arias
WR/TE: Stanley
TE: Harris
OT: Vaughn
OT: Sherman
OG: Roddick
OG: Sauvao
C: Lynott

Interesting. Vaughn is replacing our Grad Transfer LT? Sauvao replacing our best and most experienced interior OL, who also is likely a captain? Moretti being good to go to start the season, but losing his job to Roddick?

Coming in strong with the hot take that goes against the groupthink and conventional wisdom. I like it.

I could definitely see a scenario where Arias is too good to keep off the field and overtakes KD as a top 3 receiver, and I could also see some shuffling along the OL as the season goes, but not with Hambright or Lynott.

I could see Arias starting the first game alongside Viska & KD. Wouldn't surprise me at all if that happened.

I see Hambright & Lynott as draftable players. I don't see a scenario where those 2 or Sherman are passed by someone for a starting job if they're healthy.

Yeah, we'll have to see how the offense actually looks and how they choose to use the WRs. Unless they move KD to the slot, that'd be tough to see three "outside" receivers, though.

So my thoughts on the changes:
1. Montez - Hits pile up on him in a hurry due to a bad o-line and inability to read a defense. Still has a couple big early games before the # of hits are too much.
2. KD & Brown - KD isn't getting consistent separation and Brown is consistently average. Mostly coaches can't keep Arias and Stanley off the field.
3. Moretti - Comes out of camp well but his injuries creep up again early in the year. Even though he is undersized at 280 ,he is a hell of a player when at 80%. I think he will be 80% at the start of the season.
4. Lynott has to shift to center as everyone else continues to be awful there....this means two guard spots are now open and Roddick and Sauvao are playing out of desperation.

That is fair. I don't have enough information on Hambright to be as confident as the rest of you are. Don't get me wrong about Lynott. I think he is CU's best lineman, but his ability to play multiple positions is too tempting for the coaches to leave alone.

1. Montez has had a bad line before and didn’t take a bunch of hits previously. Different offense may expose him more though.
2. No problem with that prediction. It’s certainly possible.
3. Moretti seems unlikely to be ready for camp. I give that a 0.1% chance of happening.
4. I think Lynott starts the year at center. The guards are the question mark right now, and seems pretty open. An interior of Roddick-Lynott-Sauvao is possible.

*I don’t see Hambright losing the LT spot unless he’s injured.

I'll go with KD not being in the starting lineup come conference games, barring injury of Viska, Brown, or Arias.

:ROFLMAO: if Montez takes too many hits because of a bad o-line, putting in a less mobile, less beefy Lytle is not going to make anything better.

Where would he go though? That would require either Viska or KD to move inside considering 6'4" Arias ain't going inside.

Viska played out of the slot a ton last year. KD some, too.

I'm not nearly as high on Lynott as most of you guys are.
A healthy Lynott is easily our best interior OL player, got the size, strength, toughness, and experience.

The healthy is the issue, he played last year on an ankle that would have put most guys in the hospital. I don't trust that it is back strong enough for him to play healthy a full season. I also think the ankle is why they are working him at center when in my opinion he is much better at guard. The center doesn't have to do as much pulling and as much movement to the second level and the center's ankles aren't as exposed to being rolled as much.

I also hope that I am 100% wrong and that he is back at full ability for the season.
