LT - Haigler
RG - Tonz
C - Pursell
RG - Lynott
RT - Kaiser
I think that's what you're going to see, though. My pick would be exactly the same. I would like to see Moretti at LT with Haigler at RT...but I think it is asking too much for a redshirt freshman, coming off of injury to start the first game at LT.
I think that's what you're going to see, though.
I think he'll be readyIs that because we just don't have a viable option and we need to throw him in ready or not, or because you think Moretti will be more than ready?

I would argue that on paper, the OL looks pretty solid. The problem is that we haven’t seen a lot of these guys play, so all we have to go on is what they look like on paper. So much of this season depends on the offensive line being better than it currently looks on paper. We've now made it through spring ball and heard some of the news coming out of summer practices. Who do you think will start at each Oline position on August 31?

When I see “on paper”, I think “guys we think should be pretty good, but we don’t know because they haven’t played yet.” I look at this OL and it looks pretty good... on paper. How so? Good on paper to me would be we are returning 4 of 5 pretty solid, upper class men starters and we have a question mark at one position
On paper this year the only solid, Jr/Sr we have is Haigler. Kaiser hasn't shown well at a P12 level and Lynot is coming back from injury. Then we are saying an unheralded freshmen is going to play center and a freshmen who hasn't played in two years is going to start at LT. That would be down right scary to most.
I think we'd have to have a good veteran starter to keep Moretti off the field and be able to bring him along more slowly. More like a Jeromy Irwin or Jack Harris level. Probably not even Stephane Nembot level would keep Moretti on the bench, but definitely should not be Josh Kaiser level keeping him there. Is that because we just don't have a viable option and we need to throw him in ready or not, or because you think Moretti will be more than ready?
It sucks Sherman, Pursell and Moretti don't have any experience. But they have a lot more talent then CU has seen on the line in some time.
It’s amazing to see the difference between highly sought after raw talent and “he’s a big guy, let’s see what 4 years in a P5 strength and conditioning program will do for him” type.IIRC, Moretti didn't get snaps until near the end of Spring, but then started with the 1's at LT and stayed at LT for all of his snaps.
I'd say that was a test, as they know what Haigler can do at both RT and LT.
From what I saw, Moretti passed that test with no problems.
I think he's the LT.
If line 1 is true, line 2 is stupid. The younger guy should be playing the OOC snaps from day 1.Moretti is by far the most talented on that line. If he is truly healthy, then he is the day one starter.
Although, insiders keep thinking it will be Haigler and Kaiser to start the season.

In fact, it's so stupid that I can't believe the "insiders" are dealing with good information here.

A case could be made that easing Moretti in during the preconference schedule, i.e. getting him an increasing number of series each game, may be a wise move. Especially considering his injury history. A case could also be made that throwing him out there at the start of the CSU game and letting him take his lumps is the best way to get him up to speed. Either way, if he's fit he'll be the starter by the time we get to LA.
God forbid there be expectations for players/position group/team. If he’s “full go” in Fall Camp, there shouldn’t be a need to ease him into the starting lineup.^This
Has the feeling to me that they've been instructed not to overhype and put too much pressure on Moretti. Seems like they're all way too gun shy about predicting him to start despite what we've all seen with our own eyes with how others performed at the position last year and how good he looked at the position in the spring.
I'm not concerned about easing him into the job, if he is ready then he is ready and go with him.
His injury history as well as that of Lynott and of our OL in general though does concern me.
On one side you want the starters to get as much time together as possible to have their coordination as a group down before we get to conference play. The counter to that is that MM has a history of not using opportunities to get back ups game time. The odds of getting through the year with the starting five fully healthy are slim so I would like to see a better job of getting the back-ups game time to be more ready to fill in.
I'm just saying a guy who hasn't played a game for a couple of years maybe shouldn't play every snap of the CSU game.
If he's healthy and his conditioning will allow it I don't have a problem with Moretti taking the snaps.I'm just saying a guy who hasn't played a game for a couple of years maybe shouldn't play every snap of the CSU game.
