C-Will is heading to Salt Lake City
The 2024 NBA Draft is underway and the first of three Buffaloes has officially come off the board. Cody Williams, Colorado’s 6-foot-8 freshman forward, has been selected 10th overall by the Utah Jazz.
Williams is the first Buffalo to be selected in the draft since 2022 and the very first freshman to get drafted in program history. Williams is also the first Buff to be selected in the top ten of the NBA Draft since Chauncy Billups was picked third in 1997.
In his lone year in Boulder, Williams showed flashes of greatness when healthy. The five-star recruit out of Gilbert, AZ. was Colorado’s highest-rated recruit ever and he showed why in his 24 games in Boulder. With his combination of impressive length, high basketball IQ and dedication to making the smartest play possible, it’s no shocker that Williams has landed this high in the draft.
Williams is only 19 and will admittedly be a bit of a project for the Jazz. He struggled to stay healthy for the Buffs last season and isn’t necessarily the most built player. He may not slide into the rotation and play immediately, but that’s perfectly fine. If Williams can stay healthy and continue to grow his game, his upside is tremendous.
Utah isn’t a bad spot for Williams to land. They’ve got an elite guard already in Lauri Markkanen with little depth at forward off the bench. Williams might get the opportunity to play right away with the Jazz, which will greatly help his development into an NBA player.
Congratulations, Cody!!!
