RIP Joe Paterno

I think if you ask anyone they all knew he wouldn't last long after this ordeal. The man lived and breathed football, it was obvious. R.I.P. JoePa.
 
CBS might have ****ed up there

Dan McGinn, the Paterno family spokesman, at 8:57 p.m. on reports about Joe Paterno's death: "Absolutely not true."

Sounds like it's not confirmed. I recall someone posting this in one of the threads about a month ago, that once he got out of coaching he wouldn't live much longer. :huh:
 
I will remember him as a coach who ran a clean program relative to what we are seeing now at athletic departments across the country and he won and won big at that. Made a huge difference in the lives of the men who played for him and one of the best in the history of college football.

Sadly also complicit to the end in the alleged misdeeds of his close friend, and that will also factor heavily into my remembrance of him. This too made a huge, negative difference in the lives of much younger men that they will carry for the remainder of their lives. Unbelievably tragic end to a long and storied life, if and when that is over.
 
I think espin had text on a runner that JoPa had asked his wife/family to get friends & family there so he could say his "last" goodbyes. Of course, this is espin, so I'm not sure if that's been confirmed.

Before my father and brother passed, they both were able to say thier "goodbyes" with family.

It was hard as hell to say goodbye to someone you loved, but I hope that I will be able to do the same thing with my family when it's my time.
 
I'll remember that he had a few great teams, many very good teams, and many overrated teams. And his association with Sandusky.

Despite what occurred with Sandusky, JoePa was one of the good ones and was great for the game of football.

I actually do feel sad. The guy ran a pretty clean ship and was going to go down in history as one of the best coaches in the history of sports. Now that reputation is tarnished, he was booted from his job and is on his death bed all in a span of months.

The thing is we don't know the whole truth yet about how much he knew and what he did and didn't do about it. I really don't believe he knowingly put other children in harm's way. If he knew that it was ongoing and failed to do anything about it than he deserves what he got I guess. But if he thought he did the right thing, and actually followed the rules laid out for this kind of thing at PSU, it is hard for me to wish him such a rapid fall from grace and speedy demise and as some ABers' would prefer, time in hell.
