Sefo had a bad game, but this play was beautiful

I may get roasted and may deserve to but..

I would give the ball to Montez for the Arizona game. Liufau is one of the toughest individuals and one of the best leaders to ever suit up at CU and no one can argue that, but we are currently winning in spite of him not because of him. He can make accurate throws and does well when he has a clean pocket and time, things that he has not had recently, but Montez gets the ball out faster, has a stronger arm, and is more mobile when it's time to leave the pocket. The other factor is Montez's ability to turn his play up in the 4th quarter vs Sefo who struggles in the red zone and at putting the game away.

AZ is a perfect game for Sefo to straighten things out. Montez may have all the tings you state. . . in time. But he still struggled mightily against pressure and cannot recognize and check as well as Sefo.

You may be right, but Sefo has just one TD pass since Michigan! He is holding the offense back a bit and this is coming from someone who is a huge fan of his. He was on a roll earlier in the year but hasn't done much since he went out at UM.

I'm not going to roast you, I just think that's a false narrative. For some reason, on the plays Montez got passes off, he had time to throw. That rarely happened all game. The one time he was pressured on a pass play, he moved around and ended up gaining one yard - not much different than Sefo.

I like Montez and am excited for his future, but we need to stop thinking that he made Oregon's and Oregon State's defenses look bad, instead of them making him look good.

Again, Sefo has a ton of heart and all the intangibles going but he has thrown ONE TD since the 3rd quarter of the Michigan game. I think Sefo wants to win so badly that he often grips it a bit too tight and is so scared to make a mistake that he can't play loose. Montez is the complete opposite of this. He is more of the gunslinger QB. You will get 4-5 TDs and probably a pick or two like we saw last night. But I will take that if Sefo is going to turn it over and not throw TDs.

That was the best DL we'll see until Utah.

Our OL has become solid with run blocking.

We can't afford to run so many longer developing pass plays. Sefo holds the ball too long and we don't have the OT for 7 step drops.

I would like to see us run 60% of the time, short quick designed passes 30% and 10% deep shots out of play action.

Go for it on 4th and anything under 3 on their side of the 50. No more field goals

I think they will both struggle against superior DL talent because it's really an OL issue IMO. The problem is, I could easily see Sefo lighting it up next week at Arizona and against Wazzu, and then ****ting the bed again vs Utah. My issue with Sefo isn't the scrambling or not finding open receivers, etc, but rather the random inaccuracy to wide open guys that either force them to the ground right there or don't allow them gain much, if anything, after the catch.

With this OL, we are going to need both.
^^This.
The offensive line has been pushed around and beat up in four of the nine games this year (Michigan, USC, Stanford, UCLA). Against Michigan Sefo stood in and thrived despite the line. Since that point, his foot work has been off and he isn't following through as much on his throws (Thus the return of the inaccurate Sefo). Sometimes that is because he is running and sometimes it is because he is nervous in the pocket. I can't really blame a QB for that when he has been beat up so much and at this point in the season it just is who CU's o-line is. Coaches will need to get creative to make this offense work well in all the remaining games.
I have other concerns that I think are more pressing, but I probably shouldn't put those in an open thread.. more behind the firewall stuff and I really need to watch the game a third time to fully believe what I think I am seeing.

Let it go. Sefo struggles when we've played against extremely talented defenses. Any QB would. The dude is good enough. He is tough as nails and his presence on the field makes the whole team better. He has earned the starter role and for good reason.

It didnt take Montez long to throw an int when he was in either. UCLA's coverage was very good last night. One of the best in the conference. Things get easier from here....

Regardless of his TD/INT ratio?

It would help if we called anything other than a RB/QB power in the red zone. That was by biggest issue with the play calling last night, we took a total of zero shots in scoring position.

I did love that play call to Shay Fields where he was brought down at the 1...would also love more Julmisse in those situations, plus maybe one or two Awini wildcat sets.

How about the concentration by Ross when he fumbled that ball to stay composed pick it right back up (even though it was a very fortunate bounce) and get the first down. That could have been a disaster

co-worker that barely watches football, asked me this morning is Sefo was playing RB last night? he had as many carries as #23.

No doubt. And 11 of his completions were to Lindsay. Pretty much nothing allowed by UCLA's defense or made to happen down field.

Ross didn't help matters by dropping a pass that hit him in the hands 30 yards down field. It was a great pass that was flat dropped. That probably goes for a touchdown if he holds on to it and we are all singing a different song today.

Lots of ugly chit yesterday. Bad officiating didn't help, either.

I feel like every single crossing route was open, just didn't have time to get to it, sefo was scared to fit it into a tight window after throwing 3 pics, or just flat out didn't see it.
