Shedeur Sanders - 2023-25 Tracking History Thread - Drafted by the Cleveland Browns (NFL)

I mean, it’s great to pontificate about what teams we’d like to see him on, but Cleveland the only team that liked him enough to draft him. If the Rams didn’t like him, then it isn’t going to work out there. Also, I think it’s painfully obvious it was Berry’s decision and Stefanski probably had to go along.

I do think Sean Payton likes him and as much as I’m all in with Nix, it would have been jizzy to have Shedeur in Denver.

The Niners and the Broncos would have been lovely.

I think they are keeping all 5 QBs unless they get an offer they like for one of them
They aren’t filling 9% of their roster with one position that only has one player on the field at any given point. Unless you’re talking about putting someone on the practice squad, which in that case, someone can pick him up.

I think they keep all 5. Obviously their forced to keep Watson but the other 4 are likely to stick. There are only 2 i would think they would considered trading for a 4. That's Pickett and Sanders. They invested too much in Gabriel and KS has a hard on for him. Pickett probably won't get more than a 6. I don't think they want to trade him for less than a 4 and I don't think anyone wants to trade more than a 6 for him. Even then, I don't know if they even want to trade Sanders period. They may keep all 5. I am watching and hoping it's Atlanta or Jacksonville. Especially if Atlanta moves Cousins on Sunday.

I wouldn’t mind Atlanta with Penix’s injury history. That being said, I love Penix and want him to ball out. Never really thought of us as a landing spot but it does make sense now that you mention it.

One of the rookies will have to try to be moved to the practice squad and could be grabbed by someone else. I think Gabriel has more of a chance to slide through than SS. Gabriel was a stretch pick in the 3rd at his size. Not sure what each team’s problem with SS was, but he has shown maturity and the qualities that supported the high draft rating he had initially.

The Browns simply have too many QBs to be useful to the team, and they have no reason to spend a year training two backup rookie QBs when they have two 1sts next year. And the stupid D.Watson situation is hanging over everything—going to screw them big time when he get healthy too early.

The way KS loves Gabriel and was making excuses for him. I don't think that's gonna happen. No one is getting cut, traded, maybe. This is a situation that didn't make sense from the jump because well, you already are forced to keep Watson. The idea was obvious. One vet and two rooks but the rumor is, they want more than teams want for Pickett. He's like QB3 on the trade chart behind Cousins and Winston because Winston cost will be far more feasible. You wonder how will Shedeur or Dillon get any reps outside of scout team and only one QB can play scout team. They can act like Watson is invisible but he's not.

Think Raiders should be on here. Geno is about to be 35 and can be cut after next year with no dead cap. Have to think they’ve seen Aiden O’Connell isn’t the developmental guy they need.

I understand why some fans are frustrated and want him to leave Cleveland. I just don't believe it will happen. If he does leave, here's my list

Hot:
Atlanta Falcons: Penix injury history. No 1st round pick so they aren't going to ever look for a QB. Cousins is there for just one season. Elite offensive personnel.

Jacksonville: Trevor has an injury concern too and his play is sporadic. No 1st round pick. No backup QB right now. Travis and a good group of weapons.

Cleveland: Trade Pickett or Gabriel and this situation makes sense. Risky of course with two 1st rounders. They bet on him and he has fans already here so keep riding the path.

Warm:
Jets: Don't really like the team but I like the QB situation. Could see Shedeur starting by week 4. Just don't love the team.

Saints: Hate the team but could see 3 QBs by week 5. It's a team he will likely play. Just don't love the situation and it's not the best for his career.

Lukewarm:

Rams: He should play. That said, two 1sts, didn't love him in the process. I think he could do better long term.

Lions: Goff is their franchise QB but I am not sold on Allen or Hooker. Let's say Goff is hurt and they play Shedeur, you know he's gonna ball. That said, unlikely to get a truth chance.

Others that I like in this range are Arizona, Green Bay, and Tampa Bay.

Teams I wish were available is Denver and San Francisco.

Season 5 No GIF by The Office

I’m watching the Browns YouTube documentary on the QB battle, and it’s really interesting to watch. But it’s hilarious when they have interview scenes with Flacco. You can clearly tell that man does not give a **** and would rather do anything else than be answering questions about a QB battle.
He should care. All this will be a part of who replaces him during the Bye Week.

I just can’t see them keeping everyone. Huntley will be gone and so will Pickett, IMO. They’ll cut him because he legit has no trade value. They got him for DTR and a 5th and he hasn’t played at all in preseason and he’s barely practiced.

I could see 3 and keeping one in the practice squad. 4 would be completely unprecedented

Just read up and only 2 QB’s allowed on the game day roster at a time. A 3rd can be listed as inactive and only able to play if the other two are injured or disqualified.

I don’t think they can risk cutting either Rookie to send to PS and I think Pickett would also get picked up. Huntley probably clears waivers and goes to PS if they really want another veteran around.

I believe a player can be “protected” for 3 weeks maximum if they are called up to the active roster. So I could see them kicking the can down the road in September to see how things go.

Have to cut a guy and have him clear waivers to then bring back and sign to PS (at that point he can choose any other team even if he does clear waivers). If another team tries to sign him to their active roster, the current team can elevate to their active roster or let him walk. That’s my understanding of the process.

Which of Gabriel or Shedeur is most tradeable?
This was sort of my point earlier. I just don't see the trade value of Gabriel. He's a small QB who isn't something special as a running threat. He's no Kyler Murray, who is listed as just a inch shorter. I think Gabriel got picked in the 3rd by the Browns without much other interest in him. I don't know what the Browns see, but then again, the Browns taste in QBs has been questionable for a long, long time.

Not sure what teams would see Gabriel as an upgrade to what they already have on the roster, even in their as backups, and want to trade for him.

Clearly, every team had some strange draft issues with SS, but I think its arguable that he's alleviated some of that with both his conduct, work ethic, and the bit of play he was given. His draft grade was as high as early first round, so he's a real QB with real potential--whatever the issues were.

Gabriel’s market is for a team that has a Joe Burrow, Mahomes, Allen etc and just needs a cheap developmental solid backup option.

Maybe.

All those teams have players already doing/being that. I haven’t gone through each team’s roster, but I have a hard time seeing Gabriel as an upgrade to their back up development QBs. Their systems are built for big mobile QBs with big arms. That’s not Gabriel. Mahomes is even 6’2”.

I agree. I honestly don’t think any other teams had a draftable grade on Gabriel

Trading a player away for any draft capital has got to be the plan for the Browns. As I’ve written before, the 247 staff thinks Pickett is the most likely to be traded. At the same token, many thought it was a 50/50 choice between Flacco and Pickett to be the #1 QB out of the gate, but that competition evaporated with Pickett’s hamstring injury. The Saints are an obvious potential landing spot for Pickett.

The Browns QB room is odd in that there is not an obvious ready-to-start QB except Flacco, but at the same time, I don’t think any of the three (Sanders, Gabriel, or Pickett) would clear waivers if placed on the Practice Squad. Kind of a “too good/not good enough yet” dynamic there.

Gabriel had strong interest from the Dolphins during the draft and after the draft (reportedly), which makes sense to back up a lefty (Tua) with a lefty (Gabriel). The fish would be a big risk to snag Gabriel.

If Shedeur landed on waivers, there are at least six teams that would have major interest that I can think of, many of which have been named above, especially since the “hype” surrounding Sanders would be tamped down a good bit for the acquiring team snagging him off waivers.

A Dolphin isn't a fish. Anybody wanting Gabriel, go.ahead.

It would have been easy for KS to take a more palatable position, and say SS and DG were tied/neck and neck/coming along evenly, rather than saying SS was #4 and impliedly not performing at DGs level (especially as the reverse is true).

KS definitely is biased. SSs arrogance, his dad's arrogance, who knows why, but it's sure there.

I think fans and players are recognizing this, and I think Gabriel's trying to trash SS with his "there are athletes and entertainers" comment didn't sit well with many other players and fans. And really, was he stating he's an athlete and SS isn't? That would truly be arrogant.
