Shedeur Sanders - 2023-25 Tracking History Thread - Drafted by the Cleveland Browns (NFL)

Wow, I really got used to that perfect ball placement.
Season 3 Nbc GIF by The Office

Shedeur got zero reps except early passing drills this morning at the Browns’ practice.

You can read the practice updates here with 247 sub:

Cliffs:
Flacco had a good practice.
Gabriel had another uneven practice, a couple of good throws, but a lot of incompletions
Sanders got no live reps at all today

I still think Cleveland is playing the long game here, and I don’t disagree with it so far. When Sanders gets his full shot, he will have earned it, and the media and fan perception will be better. He isn’t being handed anything. I really don’t hate this approach and I think it works overwhelmingly in Shedeur’s favor.

One of the things that I find frustrating reading the Browns message board is the general lack of understanding surrounding engagement, AI slop, and clickbait.

Shedeur (and the whole Sanders family) has a crazy engagement score. Love or hate, people click the articles. That’s engagement.

And most of the articles are AI generated, loosely based on any sort of fact, poorly written, and dubious conclusions. And then some people don’t understand that if you click one article, then the algorithm will give you more articles on Shedeur, all with very “clickbait-y” titles.

In this day and age, you’d think people would know this. But they don’t.

I have some scoop from someone very well connected with the Browns, Sanders is not out due to his shoulder, it is actually his back that is giving him problems. They aren’t sure if it is due to his previous back surgery or because he is carrying their entire franchise during the offseason.

Shane Gillis is a racist asshole.

I just got home from Josh Johnson's show and thought about this post.

Most comedians, by nature of their work, walk a narrow finesse. If they're not edgy enough, they're not funny. Push the line too far, they offend their audience.

Johnson tonight had two bits that played on white stereotypes. Trevor Noah did the same when I saw him a few years ago. Dave Chappelle made a career out of racist jokes and uses labels for various races that many find offensive (although Chapelle is more equal opportunity in also going after blacks, Hispanics, and Asians). Shane Gillis, Mark Norman and Hans Kim all have sketches playing on racial stereotypes.*

I think context matters. A comedian making a racial joke as part of a bit in a show can be funny while the same line in social situations would be offensive. I've seen Tiny Hinchcliffe twice, and he made a number of racial jokes that were entertaining in that setting, but I thought his jokes at the Republican rally were offensive and out of place.

Last, you have every right to be offended by Gillis, but I'd encourage you to consider the difference between someone making a racist comment and that person being a racist.

Just my 2¢.

* I know there are people who argue that a double standard is fair, that it's ok for black comics to make jokes about white people but not vice-versa. I respect that POV but don't personally agree. I think it can all be funny in the right context if delivered from a place of good natured humor and not used to fuel bigotry.

I will agree with you that there are comedians who can successfully walk that line on stage. That doesn’t have anything to do with that Shane Gillis clip. He wasn’t on stage. There was no joke in that clip. He called Chinese people “fvcking ch!nks”. It was two racist assholes sh!tting on Chinese people and Chinatown. F them. Just my 2¢.

You're right, it wasn't on stage, but it was a show. I'm guessing it was a podcast. To me, that's a performance and not a comment in a social setting.

Agree the use of the word 'ch!nk' sounds bad and would be offensive to many even as part of a bit.

You don't have to answer, but I'm curious if you hold Chapelle to the same standard.

Appreciate the civil dialogue on a complex and sensitive topic.

Cleveland is going to give their 3rd pick every opportunity over their 5th round pick, because if SS proves to be better it would be a direct indictment on how crappy Cleveland’s scouting and draft personnel are at their job which ultimately leads back to the HC and GM. If you’re going to push him down to the scrubs, why even bother drafting him?

Young Chappelle was the GOAT. I stopped watching when he started going on his unfunny and mean-spirited anti-trans rants. There is a difference between punching up and punching down.
