Shedeur Sanders - 2023-25 Tracking History Thread - Drafted by the Cleveland Browns (NFL)

For all the bitching and moaning about Deion potentially dictating who could draft his sons, the Mannings already did this with Eli. They sure as hell won't let Arch go to anywhere they feel would destroy his career.
There was even a lot of chatter that Prime's meddling was what turned teams off on draft day. I haven't seen any apologies or retractions on that since everyone learned that Prime had no involvement because he was basically in seclusion dealing with a life threatening cancer diagnosis. But, of course, with the Mannings it will only be stories about such a wonderful family looking out for their son/grandson/nephew.

Yea, the Whites get away with a bit more shenanigans

The Browns have totally bungled this. I’ve read up a lot on practice squad rules and they can basically protect/elevate a player for only 3 weeks. After that’s done any team can pick them up. I seriously doubt they put a 3rd rounder on the PS and risk someone picking up Gabriel. And I doubt they would do that with Shedeur either

Huntley and Pickett are the clear odd men out imo

Huntley is just a camp body that was signed because there were some minor nagging injuries to the other QBs. Not even Huntley expects to be with the Browns in a couple of weeks.

I think the Browns are most likely to trade Pickett, but I think they will keep four QBs this year.

The real wrench is if Watson gets cleared to play. They can’t cut him or put him on the practice squad without a massive cap hit.

The Browns are blowing, and so did the entire rest of the NFL....but, they have to be concerned with all of their original camp QBs being injured

They get the massive cap hit if he is active or not.

I think they have decided that he isn't part of their future. He knows that as well but if he can get on the field before the end of the season and show other teams that he is healthy it could increase his value on the market next year.

Even if healthy enough they don't have to activate him.

Cleveland’s dreaming Tonya Harding dreams…

Cleveland is managing the cap hit with Watson. They are waiting to cut him next July to do that. That we know.

What Cleveland hopes is that he stays on the PUP list for all of 2025 where he does not take up a roster spot. Unfortunately for Cleveland, Watson is running and throwing now. If he comes to practice with a piece of paper that says he’s healthy, then they have no choice but to put him on the active roster (for cap reasons) and thus dump another QB.

There are three places an NFL player can be:

Active (takes a roster spot)
PUP (does not take a roster spot, but remains fully under contract with the team)
Practice Squad (does not take a roster spot, but must first be cut and clear waivers, cannot do with Watson or trigger cap disaster)

This is far too depressing.

Seems like the worst people keep ruining things for everyone else.

so tired hearing how great arch is. I have not seen **** to impress. He couldn't beat out a not so great QB last season. If he was worth all the hype he would be on the field by now. Overrated legacy name.
sorry for the rant

Did you watch Texas last year? Not sure why Sark stuck with Ewers but Manning is very good also adds a running dimension to the offense

He had a tendency to throw it up for grabs on occasional deep shots but besides that, it was obvious the talent was there.

In hindsight, most/all of their moves at QB didn't work out, but at least they were swinging for guys in the first round and trying to get them to work. Even trading for Watson was a move made out of solid logic in that they would get beyond his league suspension and have a true franchise QB (albeit they were scumbags in the first place for being OK with having him as their QB1). Nobody knew Watson was going to end up being really ****ty as a player in Cleveland, though.

This year takes the ineptitude to a whole new level though. They legitimately have 6 QBs on their roster with 5 of them getting reps in Training Camp and aren't planning on giving the two Rookies much of a look in the regular season. There is incompetence with executing a good plan and there is incompetence with executing a bad plan. This is incompetence with executing no plan.

Thought this was interesting, and actually…it’s exactly what a smart team would do.

This article is in reference to the one player every team should cut.

Next play a shaky hand off that results in a Brown fumble. Maybe a RB error but the commentators said it was a poor handoff by Gabriel

Brothers, it is clear.
DILLON GABRIEL IS STRAIGHT CHEEKS.
Stepanski will say Gabriel looked really good, ran the offense effienciently, understood the play book exceptionally well and read his options far beyond his years. That he had a play or two he can learn from and grow, but he is really happy with Gabriel's performance.
He is so anti Shedeur, its ridiculous.
