Shedeur Sanders - 2023-25 Tracking History Thread - Drafted by the Cleveland Browns (NFL)

They blackballed Colin Kaepernick because he took a knee, dude. The NFL doesn't want anything taking away from the NFL.
I wouldn't really compare SS to CK. Kap was bringing a lot of negative attention. The Bud light drinkers thought he was unpatriotic and that is a large percentage of NFL viewers. SS is driving viewership, while Kap had the potential to hurt the numbers.

I hate the collusion angle.

Hell…even if it was collusion regarding Kaepernick, I genuinely don’t care if teams came together and said, “this guy isn’t worth the headache he brings with him…especially as a back up”

If that’s collusion, fine, but he’s not owed a cent.

He’s not owed a career in football.

I stand behind what Kaepernick did, and what he stands for, but I also don’t care that everyone said “pass” on him.

BUT…

I find what Harrison Butker stands for and continues to spew far more problematic than anything Kaepernick did, and he should also be out if a job…so yes, the league definitely has an issue when it comes to how black players are “disciplined” versus how problematic white players are.

Two things can be true at the same time.

Shedeur can be an insufferable diva douchebag, while also being a very good QB prospect who should’ve been drafted much higher.

It seems like those turned off by his personality don’t want to give his game any credit, and his defenders act like the only reason people wouldn’t like him must be because he’s black. Both of those are off base takes.
Gary's back, guys!

What did you think of the Stanley Cup playoffs? Great to see Marchand win in Florida, wasn't it?

What do you think of the Bruins and Celtics chances this year?

LI have a difficult time with most conspiracy theories. In this case we are to believe that the NFL front office contacted 30 teams yet there has not been a single leak until ED’s source.

OTOH, the NFL would not have had to have contacted every team. They only would have had to collude with teams in the market for a QB. So, really, 5 or 6 teams.

I think it’s more likely that the scouts and evaluators of the teams looking for a QB started badmouthing Shedeur amongst each other and rumors turned into “facts.” Urban legend kind of stuff.

My hunch is Shedeur 's request to each team that was interested drafting him, to have a merchandising % clause in his contract. That strips $$$ away from the NFL and the team. He is the first to do it and it is paying him big dividends right now.

Don't think so. In order to do that it would have to be done in a way that complies with the standard player contract negotiated between the league and players association and be configured to fit within the salary cap that is a part of that agreement. It would be a great idea but it is simply not something that would be allowed.

If it were the Broncos could clean up on free agents by promising them merchandise deals that would include prominent merchandising in Wal-mart stores nationwide.

He already did it. Reportedly, Shedeur has earned $16M in merchandising since draft day.

Sharpe and Ocho’s conversation about it is good. They don’t confirm it but talk about how the NFL has routinely interfered in draft picks throughout time, with one of the biggest open secrets that they made the Rams draft Michael Sam years ago. Basically saying that ED’s comments track with NFL behavior and then Dez essentially agrees.

Sorry, I just don't see it. The NFL is not threatened by Shedeur or anyone like him coming out of college. The NFL is a behemoth and 1 person does not change anything.
These organizations need to control the narrative. The Mavs didn’t just luck into Cooper Flagg after trading Doncic. There are elements of WWF. Not to that extent, or even close, but I don’t put it past them to try and ruin Shedeur, who is bringing his own brand into the League.

I am interested if that prime equity is real. I know Arch is probably gonna get it next if it's real
If the NFL is trying to intimidate the Mannings into accepting going to whatever franchise drafts Arch they might get an unpleasant surprise. It's not as if the Mannings need the money or don't understand how the league works.

I mean, Gary coming back to defend the good old boys club (white NFL owners) is not surprising. Probably the third most likely reason for him to come back behind 1. Defending police brutality/abuse of power and 2. Arguing that racist things aren’t racist.
So the same owners that were cool with Cam Ward being drafted first overall? This stupid conspiracy doesn’t even make sense.

You didn’t hear any of the talking heads or analysts say things like “Cam Ward just puts his head down and goes to work, no extravagant flash”?

That’s a dog whistle dickhead. I’m sorry you’re too ignorant to recognize it
