He never wanted to be educated, so he's not. He's got a steakhouse "chain" in Austin that takes reservations. In Austin. Reservations. Where cut-offs are always acceptable. Shirts are usually welcomed, sleeves don't matter. But in Austin... reservations. Someone's sold him a HUGE bill o' goods about pretentiousness and he never wanted to be educated. Well, enjoy it. I'm sure he's been ripped off by every advisor he hired - that's what panhandlers are called when they arrive in a suit and tie. They don't ask for spare change. "Make that cashier's cheque payable to..."
This is a problem with a lot of celebrities, not just athletes. Heck, John Elway got taken for $15 million recently. The NFL bends over backwards to try to educate the players on agents, etc. but many of these guys do not want to listen.

no yesTwo questions... 1) is that for real? and 2) is that really Vince Young?
This kind of thing can't be good publicity for the NFL Lots of these guys are gifted athletes but come out of poverty which is part of what drives them to excell in the first place but doesn't prepare them for reality once they are successful.
I wonder if the NFL and the NFLPA could ever get together and require that a certain percentage of all contracts be set aside in a restricted manner to be paid out (with interest) over the life of the player. You could take 20-25% of the first $500,000 in income per year plus 10% after. Even for the rank and file guys playing a couple years they would never be in a starvation situation again. It could also be a guarantee towards child support etc. so their spread seeds don't suffer either.
Don't know the exact details of course but it would make sense for everyone and protect players from themselves (and from greedy agents, hangers on, etc.)
Theoretically a good agent negotiates contracts, and teams often structure the payment of large sums for this reason. But some people you just can't protect them from themselves. Ego.
He went from the 1% to the 47 % overnight.
Trouble is you can't trust the agents. The really good ones who have their clients best interest at heart do fine with the guys who are smart and have good advice already. The guys from poor backgrounds get impressed with agents who have a lot of flash, run them around in nice cars and spend a lot of money on them making them feel like they are something special later leaving them broke when the contracts run out.
What I am proposing is an agreement between the league and the players association that would protect some of the players money so they at least have something coming out the other end.
The NFLPA/NFL starting providing a list of CPA/Financial Advisers. I understand that the NFL/NFLPA created some type of vetting process to try and improve players chances of getting a quality financial adviser.
That's called pension. They have that
Are they really? I'd like to find a way to get on that list.
How the F*** do you spend 5k a week at the damn cheesecake factory?

1. Vince Young's favorite restaurant to hang out in? T.G.I. Friday's on Nashville's West End Avenue.
It was here he once dropped $6k on a meal for he and other players.
Yes, $6k.
At a T.G.I.Friday's.
Players would congregate at the bar
2. The bartenders, who got to know Vince thanks to his frequent visits at T.G.I. Friday's, told Vince they'd make him a "special" drink.
It was a melon drop.
Which VY had everytime he came to the restaurant.
3. During his rookie season VY spent $5k a week at the Cheesecake Factory.
He always picked up the tab for multiple teammates.
4. On a 2007 Southwest flight from Nashville to Houston, VY bought all of the seats except for about ten passengers who'd bought tickets before he could buy the entire plane.
The plane seated 130 passengers, meaning VY purchased 120 of the seats.
5. After each home football game, VY headed for the Morton's downtown where he would sit at the bar and order $600 shots of Louis XIII.
6. LenDale White consumed quantities of Patron tequila that would kill a normal man.
Well if his agents were crooked I hope he wins his lawsuit.
You think there is any money to collect from a crooked agent, should VY win a lawsuit? Please, that money is gone to the wind.
No wonder they are getting **** advice, it's a pyramid scheme.Thanks. I think I'll pass for now, but it's good to know this is out there. The application fee is $2,500. :wow:

So basically he was an idiot (is this a strong enough term?) and blew his all his money on services at middling franchise restaurants and meaningless travel perks. I don't have an ounce of sympathy for someone who blows money like this. 5k a week at Cheesecake factory, what sort of lunacy is that.
