Woelk discusses some of the key things for spring (good read), but it looks like there won't be any independent media able to cover it and we fans will only get to see them at the Spring Game.

Puff pieces by Woelk for everyone!
Every position group coming along and could be the best since MacIntyre has been here.

Every single player on track for a breakout season.

Record gains by the team and every individual in the weight room and with their fitness.

Scheme adjustments that will make the offense faster and the defense more aggressive.

Other than post-practice interviews with players, there's really nothing Woelk couldn't have pre-written.

The CU football program will be completely out of the spotlight in the Denver media for the next several months. By choice. The AD could try making it a little easier on themselves.
With as important of an off season this is for the Broncos, the Buffs could have signed the next Elway and they could give two ****s. Nature of this market.

How is giving practice reports engaging the student body. Again, the average student just doesn’t care.
Are you serious? If you're trying to generate interest in your program would it be better to increase access or decrease access?

You seem to believe that PR & marketing, media attention, et al don’t impact things. That people like what they like and they’ll be interested enough to find it on their own. Students a lost cause. I disagree vehemently with that attitude.

They can do that without giving practice reports. To quote Alan Iverson “We are talking about practice.” There isn’t a big outcry, outside the over analyzers here on AllBuffs, to know about practice. They need to get the video crews out more in force to do the hype videos.

It is not about practice reports. It is about a general attitude to close everyone out except internal media. Hype videos do not change that attitude.

I can definitely say that only the die hard student fans would show up to Spring and Fall practices, but that’s better than none of them showing up.

Forget about the fans. Why are you closing all practices to the media? Makes zero sense to give a "don't bother" vibe in such a large media market.

It seems CU is so afraid of negative attention that they would rather have no attention whatsoever.

Its a tough balance act and I get the sensitivity in this internet age. However, there is absolutely no negatives in letting credentialed media in for practices and have a few select open practices for fans. It tells me that this is an "us versus them" mentality in regards to fans/supporters of the program.

Especially since we're talking about spring practices. Media should be there. Shut them out for any periods that need to be closed. It's not like I want them to have access to the position group meetings.

I think it's a pretty simple concept that if you want people to have more to do with you then you invite them in instead of locking them out.

As it is, we pretty much get the same daily story from every reporter based on what MacIntyre said after practice along with whatever player they decided to make available to the media that day.

And while I acknowledge that it's mostly the core fans who are going to have a lot of interest, there's a domino effect. How much word of mouth are we able to give to casual fans to talk up the coming season? I won't have any actual observations to go by -- not even second hand from media folks with whom I'm familiar enough to have a sense of whether they lean positive or negative, how credible they are on certain topics, etc.

CU has decided to make it so that my interactions with curious casual fans turns me into Dan Hawkins saying, "We'll see."
