Especially when the last time you ran the ball against a loaded box you busted a long TD run. I don't get it.

I don't think you have to respect it when it's a very low-percentage play in a situation where you don't need to take risks.
 
Even if you take 3 knees and punt, your worst case (short of a blocked punt) is that Bama gets the ball on their 20 with under a minute on the clock and no timeouts.
