Re: At this hour

DiStefano..

Would be nice if former players, coaches, and influential alumni spoke up....

.....about the joke of a decision to retain Danny.

Re: If he is staying

Relax. You don't need to go there. Enjoy your Thanksgiving. We'll soon have a new coach to get excited about.

Still. Relax. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.

I'll be hoping that Hawkins gets this turned around next year. I'll still support the team. But for now I'm going to be more of a CU Basketball fan than I am a CU Football fan.

That is good. Are you the recruiting mod? You will have very little to do through February.

Re: At this hour

Here is the best I can do right now. When Mike Bohn got on the plane for Maui it was a done deal and Hawkins was not going to be retained after the kNU game. There was a donor, who was going to frontload a large donation that was a multi year donation deal to buy him out. While Bohn was out of town, it seems Hawkins went and met with DiStef as well as Bensen...he obviously made a good enough case that they continued with their support of him.

I don't know if Bohn even had a say. I know that his decision was to fire him...I know this first hand.

I know that all of the current commits and offers have been called this afternoon and told that Hawkins would be staying. I don't think they would do this if he was not.

I know that he met with his staff and told them that he is safe and would fight for them. I don't think he has a say.

I believe that for him to stay he had to restructure his contract and lessen his buyout for future years.

I believe the recruiting class will blow up completely. "Who wants to come and play for a lame duck coach?"

Bohn will be back and will meet with Hawkins tomorrow morning to discuss, staff and contract changes.

I think at this point, the only way he goes is if he argues the staff changes. On a personal note, who would want to come and coach here? Their job, not just their contract would be a one year deal...when he gets fired next season.

Sorry for the bad news...this all broke about lunch time today.

How did he convince DiStefano to keep him if he seriously still wants to keep all of his garbage assistants? Hopefully Bohn demands at the very least the removal of: Riddle, Collins, Brandison, and Johnson.

What a joke, since when does the AD get overruled on when he wants to fire a coach he hired?

Re: If he is staying

Yep, looks like it.

"It was a review to review the season and have a frank discussion," Hilliard said. "I don't want to characterize the outcome as an endorsement of the coach. It's certainly Mike Bohn's decision."

So much for this I guess?

Re: At this hour

What is Hawkins was not hired to win football games per say. Something like this:

A. Clean up the program
B. Raise the GPA
C. Get good kids in here that want to be here
D. Maintain good citizens on the team
E. Win football games

Hawk goes in to DiStefano and says, I did A-D and will take care of E next season. You cant fire me...I did my job.

This is closer to the truth then it is to fiction. Instead of yelling mad at Bohn, it needs to be directed at the University as a whole. They don't care about winning football or any program for that matter. They are to worried about trying to keep up the appearance of the "Stanford of the rocky mountains" or believing that CU is the same as Vanderbilt etc.

What a load.

Unfortunately, Stanford and Vanderbilt have been winning more than we have the past couple years.

I can see the logic. He kept his part of the bargain.

Plus, on some level, I just don't think they were able to secure the perfect replacement. Going through another coaching change in 3-4 years probably wore them out just thinking about the possibility.

Riddle, Collins, and Johnson certainly.

I think Romeo will stay.

Re: At this hour

Regardless of whether this turns out to be the right decision or not, if this is true and I was Bohn, I'd be updating my resume and actively looking for another job as soon as I stepped off the plane. Instead of announcing the retention of Hawkins, I'd be announcing my resignation.

This is complete and total Bull****!!!

:yeahthat:

That's what I want in a HC. A whiney little bitch who goes and cries to mommy when they wont let him play. Go **** yourself Hawkins. Guess he wants to make a real run at worst coach at CU ever. Thank god I have tomorrow off because I gonna get **** faced tonight.

The assistants cannot all be safe.

Re: At this hour

Has he really done B and D though? Isn't our APR score going downhill the last couple of years and it's not like the team has been without off the field incidents. I must say they have been few and far between, but there have been some.

And is it just me, or is just incredibly stupid and arrogant to think that fielding a ****ty football team with high grad rates and a team 2.6 GPA (lol) is really going to make outsiders think CU is on par with Vanderbilt or Stanford in an academic sense?

Re: At this hour

This is great news for so many football programs. Eleven of the Big 12 teams will be celebrating this action. Non-conference programs, too, some quite near, will be popping a few corks, too. It sounds like a handful of people at CU will be happy with this, too.

:stupid:

Benson and/or DiStephano have just told the world that Bohn has NO authority over the athletic department. NONE. He is a sacrificial lamb for the above it all pretensions of the CU administration that apparently feels their institution is simply too good for Division 1 athletics... :sad2:

Re: At this hour

I don't give a **** if the assistants are fired. That is a joke of a compromise. The problem starts at the top and Hawkins has proved time and time again that he is a mediocre recruiter and a terrible coach.

CU football is going down the drain with this decision. When we have our fifth straight well-below-.500 season next year - and that is inevitable - we will be officially cemented as a loser program that loses all the time.

How many blue chip recruits want to go play cfb at a school that has been terrible for the 5 years prior to them going to college? None.

Re: Bohn To Announce Hawkins' Fate Tomorrow (Thursday)

Hawkins told the boosters, "Eventually, the cream rises to the top in every endeavor. I have every confidence in that, I do. We've got to grow up a little bit. Yeah, we need one less penalty, one less turnover, one more correct route, one more guy in the correct gap. All of a sudden, there you go."

More of this **** being shoveled down our throat for another year.

That sounds like a play-by-play of excuses for nearly every offensive drive this past season.

This sucks.

This might well be true, but proves only that the keystone kops have been duped by Hawk's insistence that E can only be done in the absence of A-D. That is a load of horse****.

Hawk has not insisted that. He has pretty consistently said that you build A-D and then E comes.

Re: At this hour

This is really ugly. I realize that firing Hawk is expensive... but what does this do to tix and concessions sales? What about general donations?

It won't be too hard for those losses to add up to 5 - 10 million in one year

ABC announcers 2morrow: Its tough to win at CU, retaining Talkins right move.

Oops, I mean Friday..

Guaranteed that will be the spin on the broadcast..

They'll wax poetic on his Boise Record and you got to give Talkins "time"

Re: Paging Pissbomber ..... What Are You Hearing ?

This blows.

Damn, I thought the regular atmosphere for an NU game there was electric....I can't wait to get there Friday...this will take the crowd to a whole 'nother level.

If NU happens to get an early lead, this COULD turn ugly if the students are amped up.

hmmm...

if this is true, it means the chancellor believes that a successful athletic program is not an important aspect of being a world class university, correct?

that doesn't quite fit with the ads about the university that i see at halftime during nationally broadcast football games...

or the ads i see on the scoreboard during the games...

something ain't quite right here....

Re: Bohn To Announce Hawkins' Fate Tomorrow (Thursday)

wtf. i'm burning all my cu clothes if hawkins is still here next year. call me a bad fan if you want, i don't care.

Re: Paging Pissbomber ..... What Are You Hearing ?

At least the H.usker.s will be safe from piss pombs. We'll save them for Hawkins and DiStef...
