The crowd

It’s funny. There were a number of empty seats in my section and scattered around in other sections. But when I watched the recording, the place looked packed.

BTW, three complaints about the game day experience. First, why in the hell cant the upgrade internet access/cell service? Mile High has seemed to figure it out. Coverage there is very good.

Second, where the he’ll are the vendors? Not once did a vendor come up our aisle. And third, why the hell is there a steady flow of people up and down the aisles all damned game. They are oblivious to the game and constantly block people’s view.

Part of what hurts for tv is the number of end zone shots. On the north side, those boxes always look empty because of their design and because a lot of times those folks are standing at the top instead of in their seats. On the south side, it's the least filled student sections and also the band is sometimes not there when the camera pans to it.

As a non-student who always sits in 110 or 111, this was the first game in a while (I didn't go to UCLA last week) where I started to feel a little guilty when students seemed to have trouble finding seats in the student section. That said, it was the middle of the 2nd quarter, so I didn't feel all that bad.

Do the students know that jingling keys makes zero noise? Just asking.

The keys don't make much noise on their own, but they are a signal to people who don't follow the game as closely that it's time to make noise.

Figure a bunch of those folks were casual fans. Folks that rarely come to games or were coming for the first time because they heard about Viska or the fact that we are 4-0 and ranked. We probably picked up a few t-shirt fans on Saturday.

I am totally OK with that. T-shirt fans are good, too.

It just takes one special game or play or player to turn a t-shirt fan into a lifelong fan. I welcome all fans to come.

Wasn’t there post by a visiting Georgia fan who thought the jingling key thing meant something else?

My memory isn’t very good, but I recall the visiting fan thinking that jingling keys meant you are too drunk to drive home and it’s time to call a cab.:ROFLMAO:

Or perhaps it was rubbing our visitors noses in the fact that we have keys to a nice home and car, while the visitor was stuck with a hotel room card and rental car with a keyless ignition fob that doesn’t jingle.

I liked his feeling of shame and inadequacy. He was relieved and unimpressed that it only meant “key play”.

I turn 40 next week and this was me. I was getting pissed at all of the people going up and down the stairs all game. When you sit at the end of the row it blocks your view. When I would see the same person up and down 3-4 times I would just comment loudly how I have never seen so many people pay money just to walk up and down steps all day and not watch the game.

And forth-ly, You damned kids down there runnin' around with those fancy pants and buckets on yer heads, GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

Yeah, agree that these oblivious aisle standing lollygaggers are bugging. The Grandpa Simpson meme is part of a long standing joke on DBT.

After seeing the game Saturday night, my mission to make it to Boulder for next year’s kNU game is intensified. If I still had a day or two in my time off bank, I’d hit the streets to look for tickets to one of the remaining home games...

The one downside is that they aren't going to keep this attendance up all season unless they basically win out.
The hand-wringing when the Oregon State game doesn't sell out is going to be intense.

Herbstreit actually mentioned on Gameday that Boulder had an underrated crowd when we're decent as one of the reasons he picked us.

Also, its likely not a coincidence that we're getting better crowds the year we fully get beer back, if nothing else people are spending a lot more time in their seats and aren't missing the first 5 - 7 minutes of the 2nd half to heading back out to the tailgates to drink.

Herbie said last year before the Washington game that CU has a great home crowd "when they believe", and I think that's accurate. It's not consistently great but it can be really special.

Students always arrive late. They’ve tried different things to get them in earlier, but they never seem to work.

Student engagement is also not one of RG’s strong suits. He seems to be more preoccupied with fundraising and on-field improvement. I’m not complaining about what he has done, but student involvement is definitely lacking. It seems like it would be a reasonably simple task to assign somebody in the AD the job of improving student engagement. But I digress.

I can't remember exactly which game it was, but in 2015 I was at a fairly massive pregame party at a Hill residential rental property known as "The Jungle", which is passed down each succeeding year to a group from the frat which has the lease. Rick George and some staffers just randomly showed up and they were passing out free game tickets to attendees. There may have been shots of Grey Goose involved. He struck me as a student-engaged guy.

It’s for a key play, dips****.
There's some P12 Netwok commercial that cycles through a bunch of players from different teams flashing their team "gang signs". When it gets to Montez, he's shown with a set of keys doing the key dangle.

I missed a half hour of the game trying to buy beer. Never again. Will be getting more loaded at the tailgate from now on.

I know of someone who would be very happy to see you dispose of some IPAs before the game.
