No to Calhoun, Peterson, Chow (he wouldn't do it), Christensen, Rodriguez, Price (are you kidding me?). Kiseau is intriguing, only because I think he's actually a lot better than he's shown. I'm not sure I want to bet our future on that premise, though. that leaves Malzahn and Venables. I'm not a fan of the spread, so let's kill off Malzahn. That leaves Venables.

The idea of hiring bob stoops is defensive coordinator doesn't do it for me, you know stoopsie is calling most of those shots.
 
My personal favorite would be Belotti, if they can pull him.

I still don't know what to think of Malzhan, I think Venebles is a product of Stoops, and I don't see enebles doing well in Boulder. I actually wouldn't have a problem with Peterson, I don't see us going back to that well again though, and I think he know's he's got a good thing where he's at.
 
Not sure why Jon Embree didn't make the list. I don't like anybody mentioned other than Venables. If they try to go after Peterson I might just puke. No Boise brotha! This is the Pac-12! Go play intermurals.

What is with the Embree love, has he ever coached at a higher level than tight-ends in the pro's?

Perhaps. I'll admit I don't know much about Venables. I do know this - he has worked for one of the most successful head coaches in all of college football. I'd have to think that some of that knowledge has rubbed off on him. The Stoops coaching tree has done reasonably well. Leach, Mike Stoops, and Mangino have all done pretty well, even though their personalities have gotten a couple of them in trouble. If Venables can maintain some solid recruiting connections in Texas and get somebody involved in the California recruiting, we'd be in decent shape, IMO.
 
Top of my list would be Mark Richt. He's apparently worn out his welcome in Athens, and the guy knows college football. He can recruit and he's not intimidated by competition. Second on the list is Les Miles. Fron what I can gather, the folks in Louisiana are flat out nuts, and whatever success they have isn't good enough. I think one or both of these coaches will be available at the end of the year.
 
Gary Patterson scares me. Not that he's not a qualified guy, but I have visions of Hawkins all over again. I think with the conference realignment, he's probably looking to make a move soon. I'm concerned that he wouldn't be able to bring in qualified assistants.

Did you listen to his interview a few weeks ago when CU got the Pac 10 invite ?
Embree bleeds black & gold and knows the 'culture' up in Boulder. He would know what it takes to get Colorado back to relevance.
He has all the respect from former Buffs and was Coach Mac's choice when Hawk was hired.
Embree would most likely bring in EB and the two of them would instantly be a huge upgrade to So Cal recruiting connections.

Sure Embree wouldn't be the "big name" that people might be looking for but was Stoops or Jim Tressel ?

I don't see Hawk being fired mid-season, and December is still a long way away.

What I wouldn't mind seeing is someone brought in at mid season to take over recruiting if they've got an idea of who the new regime will be.

one thing in Patterson's defense, is he's a defensive guy. i like that. i think Patterson will be the next HC at ATM unless Sherman wins about 16 games combined in the next two seasons.

yes to richt and yes to miles... but i think les is gonna be at michigan

I seriously doubt Troy would leave Air Force, especially for CU. He's an AF guy, and has exactly the job he wants.
9. Mike Price (UTEP - Head Coach)
No for two reasons - age and baggage.
8. Todd Graham (Tulsa- Head Coach)
Don't know much about him - but do we really want to take another chance at a mid-major guy?
7. Brent Venables (Oklahoma - Defensive Coordinator)
A good choice, IMO. He could break away from the XII Lite and not have to coach against Stoops and Syndley.
6. Eric Kiesau (Colorado - Offensive Coordinator)
Interesting, but he has to show more than we've seen so far. Could be perceived as a different version of Hawk.
5. Rich Rodriguez (Michigan - Head Coach)
Lord in Heaven NO. If he can't win at Michigan, WTF would he do in Boulder?
4. Dave Christensen (Wyoming - Head Coach)
Don't know too much about him (other than he was a Husker --:devil:). Has to do more at Wyo before he steps up in class.
3. Norm Chow (UCLA - Offensive Coordinator)
Don't think he'd come, and he's older than God himself.
2. Guz Malzahn (Auburn - Offensive Coordinator)
Don't know much about him. Could be OK if he would move from the SEC.

Has the perfect job for him now. Won't leave unless he gets greedy.

Then let's beat the crap out of the dogs in October :)smile2:), and he can just stay in Boulder, as UGa would probably fire him on the spot......

My concern with Embree is his massive lack of experience and that fact he'd be learning on the job. We've see what Tabor has done to the caliber of assistants we can pull in so the idea of getting a head coach who is short on experience scares the **** out of me.

Embree / Bienemy aren't going to be on anyone's list EXCEPT CU's/CU fans.

AFA is where he belongs. Disciplined kids, extra coaches, are part of the reason for success. Doubt he'd leave and not sure the success would transfer

He has been around good coaches, but never seems to get out of their shadow, methinks there is a reason. Also about as dynamic as a box of cheerios in interviews. Maybe, but CU can do better IMO.

6. Eric Kiesau (Colorado - Offensive Coordinator)

Supposedly a great recruiter and solid offensive mind, I wonder if the Hawk is squatting on him and keeping him from his potential? Might be a good plan B.

5. Rich Rodriguez (Michigan - Head Coach)

Hide the cheerleaders, no thanks.

4. Dave Christensen (Wyoming - Head Coach)

Intriguing, but still would rahter someone not tied to the epic beatdowns Mizzou put on the Buffs if possible. The guy is a solid coach though, maybe another plan B guy.

No. Won't come and he's what 65?

Richt would be awesome.

Les "the hat" Miles is overrated IMO, but leaps and bounds better than current.

Gary Patterson makes his living by taking the TX kids who can't get into UT, aTM or Tech. He's sort of the Bill Snyder of the MWC. Can he coach? Yeah, but I don't think he'd fit in here.

Leach? entertaining, but a gaffe away from a feminist riot in Boulder. Remember fat little girl friends? I can hear D'Annibelle already...

Al Golden, only knock I can think of is he is an East Coast guy.

I think he would be okay as a coordinator but HC is a bit of a jump. Right now he's the RB coach at UT and has just been a position coach at Rice before that. I want somebody with more experience than him otherwise I would choose Bienemy over Applewhite because at least we know he can recruit and loves CU. I like Richt or Embree. Honestly I don't care who we get because they will all be upgrades. The only thing I ask is not to go for a mid major guy and to look outside of the Rocky Mountain region when looking for a coach.
 
No Major. It absolutely must be a guy who bleeds black and gold. Or at the very least will hire assistants, like bienemy, that are black and gold through and through. We learned our lesson when Hawk went around and took down all the posters of CU's famous players and moments. Got to have someone that recognizes the past to achieve future success.

Applewhite was the OC under Saban at Alabama for 1 year, and Asst HC @ UT now. Don't know if thats just a title but I am sure he is learning something.

Most of this list is composed of guys who CU can do better than or have 0 chance of coming here.

With that restriction Cabral is your only choice. He has stuck through everything. Not saying EB doesnt bleed black and gold but he did leave CU to go to UCLA. Embree doesnt have the experience. I think we need to try and look forward not backwards.
