"The NCAA Championships is one of the two big weekends of the year coupled with the Pac-12s. We tell them that that's when they need to be ready to do team duty and be at their best. And we hope they are; we hope they're mentally prepared, and we hope we have done a good job physically as well," CU head coach Mark Wetmore said. "As far as I can tell everybody seems to be topped off and ready to go. They all look pretty good to me and we are ready to race."

Val Constien scheduled to start within a couple minutes in the 1st heat of the women's steeplechase semi-finals.

Ms. Constien easily qualifies for the finals in the lead group of 4 with a 4th place finish in a pretty quick time (~9:51) for a semi. Congrats to her.

Heat 1 of the 800m just started. Elissa Mann is in heat 3 coming up.

The 1st of 3 800M heats is done, so assume Elissa Mann will be starting in less than 5 minutes.

Kaitlyn Benner, who was the lowest placed Buff much of the race, runs the 3rd fastest final lap of anyone to finish 7th. Other 2 Buffs also finish in the top half of the feild (in 9th and 11th).

Edit- per http://www.ustfccca.org/2017/06/featured/ncaa-division-i-all-americans-for-2017-outdoor-tf-season ,looks like top 8 finishers in each event earn 1st Team All-American status, 9th through 16th earn 2nd team and other finishers are honorable mention. So, congrats to the 3 Buff All-Americans.

Three Buffs Earn All-America Honors at NCAA Outdoor Championships

By: Rosie Jeffery, Interim SID Assistant
Release: June 07, 2018

BOULDER – University of Colorado track and field team finished their first day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with three women earning All-America honors and one advancing to the finals in her event.

The afternoon began with Valerie Constien running the semifinals in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Val finished in sixth place and crossed the finish line in 9:50.98. Constien's finish advanced her to the finals that will take place on Saturday afternoon.

"Started the day with Val Constien in the women's steeplechase looking very controlled and running smart, sub-maximal, I hope, race advancing to the finals day after tomorrow," CU head coach Mark Wetmore said.

Elissa Mann ran the women's 800-meter semi-finals today, finishing in an impressive time of 2:06.73 and earning 17th place. "Elissa Mann in the 800 got caught in a heat that was tentative and did not advance but had a great year overall," Wetmore said.

Kaitlyn Benner, Erin Clark and Makena Morley represented the Buffs in the 10,000-meter run today. Benner finished in seventh place earning All-America First Team honors. She was followed closely behind by her teammates Clark and Morley who finished ninth and 11th place respectively.

"We went out at an extremely aggressive pace. Makena and Erin at Couch Burroughs and my instructions made the decision to go with that pace and it was a little stiff for them, so they both faded from that lead pack in the second half," Wetmore said. "Kaitlyn Benner ran a little more patiently, came up our top finisher, 7th on the podium just now and a great All-American run for her."

"Holding on, both Erin and Makena, both all American. A couple of spots behind what we would've hoped for, but still great races. It was a long hard year. 5k and a 10k at the conference, 5k and a 10k at the regionals and again here tonight."

Up next for the Buffs is Zach Perrin's race tomorrow in the 5,000-meter run, and then Constien's race in the finals of the women's steeplechase.

"I am proud of all of them and tomorrow we have Zach and then on Saturday, Val in the final and Erin Clark in the 5,000 if we can get her all patched up in time," Wetmore said.
