U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials (July 1st-10th)

Looks like Jenny Simpson with the win and Sara Vaughn in 4th are in with auto-qualifying finishes in heat 1. Sara Sutherland finished in a precarious 7th place (with a 4:11.92) so, with the top 5 finishers and next 2 fastest times qualifying, she still has a chance, but will need to hope for a SLOW 2nd heat.

And Sara Sutherland does get in on time as the 2nd heat is slower! Congrats to all 3 Buffs for another great qualifying day! Hope they bring it home strong in Sunday's final.

Cubuffs article now out on the 3 Buffs advancing today- http://www.cubuffs.com/news/2016/7/...o-of-former-buffs-advance-to-1500-finals.aspx

"
EUGENE, Ore. — Former Buffs Jenny Simpson, Sara Vaughn and Sara Sutherland all advanced to the 1,500-meter finals on Friday night at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Team Trials.

Simpson led the trio in the first of two heats where the top five would automatically move on to the finals and then the next two best times. Simpson won the heat and had the best overall time at 4:10.09, while Vaughn was fourth in the heat in 4:11.26. Sutherland placed seventh in the heat, recording a time of 4:11.92, and had to wait for the second heat to see if her time was fast enough to advance.

The second heat was slower than the first, which worked out to Sutherland's advantage as she was able to grab one of the two time qualifiers for Sunday's final.

The final is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT on Sunday.

Also, a few video interviews are available-
Jenny Simpson-

Sara Vaughn-

Also, it's from yesterday, but don't think I'd included this interview with Jessica Tebo before, who's final, in the 5000M, is also Sunday. (You'd think any top young runners who listen to this one would definitely at minimum consider CU, as she does a great job of talking about how great the current Buff team and coaches are. And, she also talks up her younter brother Nathan Pixler, who will be a Buff frosh this coming year.) -

The Trials end today, and 4 Buffs tow the line this afternoon/ evening trying to earn a trip to Rio with a top 3 finish. (I am going to be out and about later today, so won't be watching or immediately forwarding the results of the Buffs' races, which start at the times noted in the below tweets.)

Note- In Denver anyways, looks like NBC will be televising the Trials with a 1 hour tape delay starting at 6:00 MT. For live coverage, I assume the stream at http://stream.nbcolympics.com/track-and-field-trials-day-10 will allow for live viewing (starting at 5:00 PM MT). For general track and (mainly) field and heptathlon fans, another stream ( http://stream.nbcolympics.com/track-and-field-trials-day-10-host ) is available earlier that goes from 2:00-5:00 MT.
