So, hypothetically, UCLA wins around 25 games each of UCLA's next 3 years. However, they proceed no deeper than the Sweet 16 in any of those years. Is he on the hotseat? Fired? I have an extremely hard time seeing how long Alford can last in Westwood, especially because they aren't even ecstatic about him to begin with. He's not known as a "tournament coach", either. Far from it. Hard for me to imagine how he lasts any longer than 5 years, MAX. He'll be taking the Lavin route in terms of overall results, albeit by different philosophical methods of getting there.

UCLA only cares about NCAA Tournament banners. He'll definitely be on the hot seat if he doesn't go farther than the Sweet 16 in the next 3 years, maybe worse.

Was talking with an Iowa alumni partner at the firm about UCLA's hire on Friday. I have never seen such a eye-roll in my life as when I mentioned the UCLA hire. Apparently whenever asked to pay for items or services in Iowa City, Alford would go into a rage, stating something along the lines of "do you know who I am? I'm ****ing Steve Alford!"

He also built a huge house in Iowa City with an indoor basketball court and indoor swimming pool. Had a terrible time dumping that house.
